it struck me today. the arguement that smoking makes you dumb...

there are 2 hemispheres in your brain. the left is mainly used for academics such as math and science. the left is more creative. prehaps marijuana changes the precentage of hemispheral usage in the left, but increases it in the right. much like the way someone who is a lefty uses the right more than the left. thoughs?

whats in a wonder ball! (I dont know if any of you remember those)

Thats an interesting theory. people who smoke tend to be more creative, but that could be because creative people are more likely to enjoy smoking, or be more open to the idea of smoking. Correlation is not causation

Cannabis activates the cannabinoid receptors in your brain, which are located in the limbic system. When the cannabinoid receptors are agonized (or antagonized, depending) specific neural pathways in the brain are changed. The cannabinoid receptors have a greater impact on the right hemisphere of the brain, which is why there is an increase in creativity.

Cannabis is a hallucinogen. It makes food taste better, music sound better, and sex much more appealing.

They say that, but i've NEVER tripped on weed. Shrooms and acid are a different story.

Probably the number one reason cannabis is considered a hallucinogen is because it could not be considered either a stimulant or a depressant. It's not so much about tripping, but the actual effect of the drug. Cannabis makes you hallucinate very mildly (making food taste better, yadda yadda yadda), but it is enough to be categorized as a hallucinogen. Personally, I would agree that there should be a sub-category in hallucinogen to better describe cannabis, as its affects are mild and unique.

That's very true, it's hard to categorise it.

Perhaps it enchances creativity, but that doesn't mean it makes you dumber in academics.

Most of the people I hang out with have or are pursuing an engineering or computer science degrees. Ironic because I suck ass at math.

Almost right.

The RIGHT side of your brain controls creativity, intuition, and all that fun stuff. Left side is math, language, ect.

Doesn't matter which side of the brain your talents are, the neurotransmitters are all the same. Some areas tend to be more active than others, maybe even more well developed. But the THC is going to affect both parts equally.

Say, you might get more creative, but be worse with math.

i doubt the brain is separated like that

No, the brain is separated like that, it is factual.

But I also believe it is more likely that creative people enjoy smoking more than those who don't and that would be my argument. I mean I have some friends who smoke, who aren't THE LEAST bit creative.

Actually, the left part of your brain does indeed control the right part of your body, and vice versa. However, I'm not sure if the left part of your brain is the "creative" area, or not. I don't know. But I can tell you that it has been proven that one side of your brain controls the opposite side of your body.
