Anyone remember these? My dad used to have a book of them when he was younger, and he passed it on to me. I love these little poems. Piet Hein was great.
PROBLEMS
Problems worthy
of attack
prove their worth
by hitting back.
THE ETERNAL TWINS
Taking fun
as simply fun
and earnestness
in earnest
shows how thoroughly
thou none
of the two
discernest.
CONSOLATION GROOK
Losing one glove
is certainly painful,
but nothing
compared to the pain,
of losing one,
throwing away the other,
and finding
the first one again.
T. T. T.
Put up in a place
where it's easy to see
the cryptic admonishment
T. T. T.
When you feel how depressingly
slowly you climb,
it's well to remember that
Things Take Time.

Definitely odd.
Some of those are pretty clever. I like them. Think about if a gangsta rapper were to make a rap out of those? I bet making a good one would be very difficult.

LOL...
Try Googling his name, and grooks. They're really enjoyable to read, and for all generations. Not preachy, but wise. Supposedly the book is very difficult to get ahold of, I have one down in my basement, can't find it though.
Just goes to show you, despite what many think, words can be very fun.
Try making some Grooks of your own- post 'em. I'd love to see what you guys could do :)

Yes!
You get it!
Let me share some I wrote at work :P
Difference
Three sisters
Two alike in face
The other one
Sets her own timely pace
The Sky
The young man cried to the sky
As he struggled against the Oxen wheel:
"Why must life be so difficult?"
And the sky responded:
"Providence helps those who
Help themselves first."
Passing of a Day
Evening settles
The Autumn cold
The dusk sunset rays
Fill a room with gold
The setting of the moon
Morning leaves in a flight
Steadily calm afternoons
Lead to loud nights!
The Truth About Cats and Dogs
Felines may be smart
But in an angering boil
While canines, though steady
Remain completely loyal
Riches
One man may claim
He has reached success
By the amount of money
He counts in his chest
But the man with a
Happy heart and a steady mind
Is truly the wealthier, you will find
...And that's it. What do you guys think?

what exactly makes a poem a "grook"

A grook is a form of short aphoristic poem- something that may give advice, make no sense at all, be ironic, sad, funny, anything. Doesn't even have to rhyme.
Try it, pat!

If you need it, you have to have it to get it, and if you have it then you realy don't need it at all.:S5:
