Amsterdam trips??

I've been saving my money for a long while now trying to save up money to go to Amsterdam, and by the fall I believe I'll be heading over to stay there for a good vacation. What I'm looking for is people who have gone, go often, or are in the know about places to go/things to do/things NOT to do/places you get ripped off/places that are great/etc. Curious about hotels/prices/money needed solely for transportation/et al. Any kind of advice would be great, or any kind of information. I just want to make sure when I do go, it will be the best time. Amsterdam is fine but if you want the best weed deals then you need to be either in Den Hague or maybe Leiden. Amsterdam has lots to offer , amongst other things you have loads of museums, including the cannabis museum
