My 7yo daughter was sick a few days last week. The following is the note I wrote her teacher:

Dear Ms. Raye,
Please excuse Rachel for being absent Wednesday - Friday of last week. She must have had some sort of a virus because she suffered through freakishly violent, explosive episodes of vomiting. I kid you not, they were "Exorcist" like in their velocity. Really scary stuff!

Thank you,
Randy

Think she might have lol ed when she read it? Or maybe thought, WTF?

Thanks my Buddymyfriend. All is good now. It was really bad for a day...not so bad the next...and just let her stay Fri so she could have 3 days to rest. My son got it to. 2 days...then all is okay. Evidently it's something going around in the area. Sucked for the kids AND ME!

^ I know! Crossing fingers and taking in LOTS of liquids in hopes of flushing it out before it can get a hold.

LOL thats hilarious, my dad and step mom always say things like that. Or those random notes your teacher gives you home for your parents to sign my dad will sign it like Neal Armstrong or Jackie Chan and ive never really been bothered about it.

i surely dont mean to piss on your parade, but i dont think that was partiularly the best way you could have handled that...i mean, what is she to think about you, a parent, saying something like that? we all know you meant it in a funny way but a teacher? i dont think she will think very highly of that...

i think its great and quite funny.. not to mention it was the truth, as you've pointed out.

Well Surrey....I was kinda hoping that she would find humor in it. I'm SURE it would be quite unexpected and unique from all the other notes sent by parents. I believe it was well written with punctuation done correctly. Spelling too.....I think (probably should have used spell checker...doooh). As it is a rather small school, I am an "involved parent", and 2 older siblings have went before her, I'm not real bothered by what she might think.

Besides, you know what they say about people that can't take a joke......

well, like i said, we all thought it was funny...all i was saying is a teacher may not...that was my only point there...besides, you asked what we thought, lol, or wtf..i was just saying what i thought as a parent..i can take a joke well enough, no problem there..was just my opinion..sorry it was different than you were looking for, but again, you did ask.....besides, i am not saying you were wrong, just that i would not agree...

I don't see any problem with the letter. There was nothing distasteful or off-color about it. Sometimes a stressful situation needs a little humor, not only for yourself but for the kids too. It let's them know that if Daddy's still laughing, it can't be that bad. Anyone who would have a problem with it takes themselves way too seriously.

It sounds like you escaped getting it too. Good for you. My daughter got some kind of stomach flu last year and it ripped through the entire family. Grandma and Grandpa too and they only saw her for a little bit when she was sick. From what I've heard from other parents at her pre-school, it was a pretty common story. Now, if anything is wrong with her stomach, I treat her like a bio-hazard. Yellow hazmat suit and all ;) Just kidding. See? there's that humor that comes from a bad situation.

Shit, I didnt see anything wrong with the letter... Didnt see it as being wrong or funny to be honest... I would describe the feeling more as concerned and empathetic. Glad to hear both your kids are alright though.

FOLLOW-UP........

Thanks for the positive responses. I actually had a parent/teacher conference (prescheduled, mandatory. Kid doing fine...no big deal) with her on Friday. While waiting on her in the office I was talking with the Principal and he said they had to send 20 kids home in 1 day! That's a lot for this school. Like I said...it's a small school. And believe it or not, when Ms. Raye came into the office she had a little girl in tow. Had just gotten sick in class!

Anyway.......I think she was kinda' surprised that I didn't sport the stereotypical "'60's hippy" or otherwise "stoner" look. You know how you can tell......in that kinda' nod-nod, wink-wink sorta' way? She was also surprised that this was my 4th trip down the raising-a-child highway and said I didn't look old enough to have a 28yo daughter ****blushes****. Maybe she was just being nice.

All is good now. No more sickness........for the time being anyway. I wouldn't wish that shit on Bush. Well............maybe I would! LMAO
