Firt closet grow. I use to run a 150w hps cabinet. I'm breaking that space confine. This is my recent grow in entirety from start. It was posted in my 150 cab thread, but i'm retiring that thread since ive expanded to a closet grow. Most of the things used, are rehashed and scavanged from the cab. I still have the cab incase I need it for the future, but for now parts are best served elsewhere.

(see signature for cab link, and thank you to all who've read and or contributed. i would have never dreamed i'd ever have close to 9k hits on that post nor such positive feedback! you guys here at cannabis.com do rock!)

Most of the items are recycled items as well so the cost was very minimal. This should list most things seen or used. Any q's on items i'll try to elaborate on if asked. My whole goal is the MOST bang for the LEAST buck,
or there abouts and as minimal a sacrife to A++ quality possible... on the least amount of wattage as I can get away with. My advice is/has/always will be grow to your enviroment as conditions and space allow. The plants tell you what they need, if they like or dislike what your giving them, and this closet is just as versitile and adaptable as the cabinet EVER was. Everything pulls down and conceals in under 15 mins... pro'lly less than 10. Could do it in 5 w/ proper motivation.

I use to post on overgrow ( gotta give a shout out for my roots, and good roots = strong growth eh? :p ), and alot of the pics on my cabinet thread are also rehashed images of past grows from when they got shut down and I moved on to here. How fitting. New thread on cannabis.com... 100% new cannabis.com only pics for a new thread for a new frontier for a new year.

Germination:
Take the sterilite container, and place two holes in the side at the top and at the bottom on both sides of the container. Cut some string and rig the wood dowls so that they are fastened extra tight and securely on the container. I used a hot knife to cute away notches along the side of the container the dowls fit firmly into before even tying. Run a piece of string and tie onto the top of the dowls. Hang 1 clip light from the string w/ 6" aprox between light and where cups will sit. Instant nursery w/ light. Toss one 26 watt CFL in. Cut 5-10 slits into the bottom of styrofoam cups. Add soil. Moisten and let drain. Add seeds. Dampen slightly. Place cups into your newly made nursery. Wrap LOSELY with aluminium foil ( concentrate light, keep warmth up for seeds to germ ).

Keep moist.

When Seeds emerge, unwrap aluminium, switch to 46 watt CFL.

Seedling:
Allow 5-7 blade leaves form (aprox 3-4 internodes from emronic leaves), transplant to 6" pots. Feed Dyna Grow @ 1 capfull per gallon. 1-2 drops superthrive per gallon.

Vegative growth:
Allow growth until necrotic signs begin on lowermost leaves, this indicates beginnings of rootbound/nute lock condition. Transplant to 3 gallon bucket. You should have a solid rootball. Feed Dynagrow @ 1 capfull per gallon. 1-2 drops superthrive per gallon. Add 1-2 46 watt CFLs. 1-2 weeks later, add remaining CFLs.

Flowering:
Aprox 1 1/2 mo veg, 12/12. HPS on (Clip lower most branches and fans that have yet to fall off (usually a lil cruddy looking by now. This is a natural process, plants lose older leaves in nature all the time). Clipping lower branches is to reduce spindly lower level growth. Plants feed DynaGrow @ 1 capfull per gallon EVERY watering. If plant begins to show signs of burn (rare - brown tips, crunchy like leaves, straight water for 3 feeding cycles).

Harvest:
Breeder spec. +/- few days. Eyeball. You can tell when they're ripe and in full sinsemillia condition.

Thoughts: I'll see at the end of this grow... But im honestly considering buying a 250w, i think 400 is overkill for my purposes and the heat of a 250 is less siginficant than that of a 400. Also, lumens per watt would be about equal to my 150 + CFLs now, less wattage, and more penetration to lower nodes. A 400 watt however, while nutting in my pants over thoughts of potential, is an expense both in purchase and in operation that I'd prefer to avoid. While shelling out the money for the lamp itself seems redundant, over 2-3 grows, the $ saved in electricity alone will have paid
for itself... Plus, not only am I working on tripling my previous harvests, doing so spending less on electricity for the same lumens plus a higher intensity of light is a good thing... God damnit I keep talking myself into buying a new light. I think the plants are telling me they want it to. That they can handle it... Maybe ive just smoked too much pot, but in this mannor of growing i employ, its like the plants talk to me! I'm going nuts. They tell me when I gaze at em they want more light. But another possibility is its my subconcious self trying to justify buying yet more equipment when
I grow damn good weed as is. Eh, regardless... Debates like this wouldnt take place in my mind if I could just run to the local exxon and buy a pack of 20 grade a dubies in a hardpack box and a pack of matches.........

This post will serve as my grow log now..........

wanna say its about day 25 flowering. i dont remember wehn i flipped the lights so im going by picture dates, ill consider 1/7 day 1 flower or so.

had to do a lil sniping to lower growth, and to some upper growth.

plants are taller than expected, i remember cali-o growing like a weed last time i grew this strain as well. tops were getting burned that were growing into the light. the one plant managed to keep its top, they're about 4ft :P

last pic is a random bud, shitty quality pic. my bad.

Day 30 flowering. First two pics are just all my babies. Third pic is the one main cola that stayed and you can see she obviously grew too close to the light... so I repositioned all the lighting to adjust for growth. Even though some of the uper fans took some damage, shes filling in and budding nice all the same. Pic 4 is me playing with the HPS light and CFL light which gave me a really wild purple hue -- so pic 4 is my artsy budshot

nice grow man. what strain are u growin?

Always appreciate the kind words :)

This strain is Nirvana's California Orange Bud.

I've grown this strain 4 times now. Its a very nice strain. The yeilds are moderate. Its tasty and pretty 'n good for the head. Though the high is more a head inside yourself high vs a social high. Great smoke to ponder and philisocize (if thats a word) on many things (sometimes ill meditate on this herb). Slo-motion feeling, the fast paceness of life is overpowering at times... Slows things down to the point you can solely focus on one thing one thought in particular - and in great great depth. Intelligent high vs retarded giggly etc. Sometimes it makes me artsy/creative. A "zone" high.

I'm zoning writting this, I clipped another small bud from the plant furthest from the lights. I dont expect as decent of a yeild from this one as compared to the other two plants... So shes my smoking plant till the other two finish... I think 3 is a bit too many plants at 4 ft ea for a 150. I really like what I see on the other two however, and I feel two plants at a time is optimal for this setup as is... If I get that 250w or *sighs* i've considered a 400w light I feel I will achieve maximum results for 3. 250w for 3 amazing plants, or 400 for 3 with rock hard buds. Though, two plants a grow would be far more than enough personal w/ the current setup, grow to grow... To the point I may cook with it :D

..... after all this is my first attempt outside the cabinet. This grow is purely purely educational. I expected 0 return :)

That's the frame of mind you have to get in! Heh some people think they are going to grow high times nugs their first time! Sure some do, but counting on it is just silly. The first couple times really look at it as a learning experience, any smoke is a bonus.

I know its the frame of mind I need to be in :D Ive been growin for about 6 yrs now, always in a cabinet though. Its the mindframe you need to be in every time, aborts do happen. You learn something new and encounter something different every grow. Realistically... I knew I was gonna get smoke... But the closet is a new ball game - I just didnt know what to expect ya know? :)

Day 37 or there abouts. I've raised the strips of reflecti-x, susspended via string. This serves two purposes in my mind. 1, im bringing in all the branches closer to the light. 2, By raising the material im concentrating the light more and able to hit lower branches since the material will reflect unused light back in. And actually #3 I just now though about this, im raising the material off the ground to let the bottoms breath more and giving extra support to the branches.

First two pics are looks in at the upper cannopy, one w/ the cfl's on and one w/o. The other two pics are just budshots. All the girls are frosting up and beginning to fluff up and fill in nice now.

An intimate look inside the sparkly world of the bud im soon to be smoking. Trich's are even growing from the stems as seen in pic 3

Lesson Learned:

Clipped another bud off the smoking plant as she progresses. I'm happy picking sweet popcorns off to smoke now while the other two finish. The one furthest from the light is going to yield less yet still filling out better than expected. Its too fucking good to wait. Clip/dry method, micro ~1/2 power 2 mins. extra 30 sec is still a lil bit too damp. :stoned: You still keep your trichs. Sit on paper towl, wrap up gently. Blitz. And Blitz :smokin:

Toped plant. Still yeilding fair. Buds are very nice, very appealing.

Unrestrained plant. Main cola's where its at. Its too bad the fans got burnt and are deformed of id show more, ill show when its finished. Plus main cola in this strain apparently gives the lower more incentave to grow larger as well.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

And my thoughts would be, for this strain of course, Two females, veged the same, proper adjustment of height of the lights by raising them up sooner, Raising the sides sooner, w/out topping woulda have achieved max efficiency.

Perhaps a wood dowl frame to be able to shut the closet (which would have been no deal w/o the third plant. "adapt to your grow" )

Im soooo high. I love this strain. W/o a doubt the most forgiving strain ive ever encountered. She just WANTS to grow <3

Day 42 flowering: I'm going to do this over multipe posts for each pic.

with only 2-3 weeks left, i figured while I did my final housekeeping of rearranging, watering, pulling off old and dying leaves and shit branches... and I was gonna be pulling them all out, i figured id give one full sneak peak before harvest.

Who says you need alot of light? Good genetics, a lil know how, some inginuity, and the ability to read and know the plant and adapt -- you can grow some good herb. Each grow continues to be an amazing experience. The grow it self is a more passion than hobby. I love it. And the results of your love put in is always seen in the end product. I sound like such a hippie...:hippy:

Ok lets take a look. This is all the plants. Its time to feed and get the crud out, keep the space tiddy.

BongHitBoy420
02-17-2007, 08:20 AM
This is by far the shining star of this grow. I went three ways, 2 topped, 1 w/ a main cola. This strain OBVIOUSLY produces heavier w/o topping.

She stands from dirt to top just shy of 4 ft. The top cola is heavy. she almost snapped under her weight, i had to use a wood dowl for support.

BongHitBoy420
02-17-2007, 08:23 AM
This plant got seriously burned by the HPS, so I topped much latter on, shes got decent looking buds, but even the side buds of her sister are heaver. This strain wants its main cola. Her other sister aka the smokin plant, shows this more dramatically (even tho shes less under the lights)

BongHitBoy420
02-17-2007, 08:27 AM
This is the smokin plant. Shes what ive been clipping a bud off a day on. Shes got small lil buds all around. Dont get me wrong, the buds that ARE there are solid and nice, theyre smaller. I call them popcorns..... But they are still like 2 or 3 bowl packs in size.

This "3rd" smokin plant, shouldnt have been here this grow. I woulda rather the energy used to grow her have been put into the other two. But this was my first go in this space, and so I have 0 complaints.

BongHitBoy420
02-17-2007, 08:28 AM
This is a preview shot of the main cola, the lighter used for size reference.

BongHitBoy420
02-17-2007, 08:33 AM
It should ALWAYS be adapting. The plant itself grows, work around it! I turned plants so the two tops are now DIRECTLY in the hps and the CFLs are more centered throughout. I also added this wood dowl in the center for support to the lower branches so they could reach higher for light. The REFLECT-X Striping got raised, suspended by a string harness w/ loops.

IDEALLY, this is what the closet would look with, only with two plants that look like the left (untopped) one. The door would close as completely.

BongHitBoy420
02-17-2007, 08:36 AM
In all the moving and wattering and pulling of dead leaves etc, the big full plant decided to lose a piece of its lower lower lowermost branch. A gift to hold me over  See, I told you she loves me too :hippy:

BongHitBoy420
02-17-2007, 08:42 AM
Ok so here it as all wrapped up and waitting to be shown at harvest. Like I said, 2-3 weeks left give er take. One full full feeding at double str (4 caps of dynagrow, they usually only get 2 every wattering.) As a final one. She only drinks water from now on. This is kinda how it evolved so far... and the girls should be hittin their final growth spirt. Sinsemillia :bong:

Hey Bong Hit Boy, grows lookin sweet. Thinking about upgrading your light, i'd say if you got the extra dough give it a try. Your closet looks to be roughly the size of mine, small as hell but thats all right. If you go with the 250 I think you will be so much happier with an air cooled light. It would not take much of an exhaust fan to cool it. You pay a little more but I think its worth it, especially if you wanna be able to move the light in close. I'm running a 400 watter air cooled and its easier to cool than my old 250wbuilt in ballast thats not air cooled. Not to mention I'm using a smaller exhaust to cool it than with the old 250. Its only been on the plants a few days but I think I'm gonna like the results.

Smokin plant is even fattening up. Whats there is poofing up ;) But even that being said, she still is 'smokin plant' and im trying the first sample of basically the end result. 2 hits in a pipe. I'm high..... I could definatly smoke more and want to.... its good and it has a not really orange flavor but more of a citrus peel perhaps... but im high lol :giggity:

HARVEST: Its like day 54 or 56, tonights the only real time ive got to be able to sit aside and do the tedious task that is harvest and manicure. So long 4 hours into it and I needed to take a breather. So I decided to post pics.

This post shows the past 3 harvests as done in my cabinet. The first pic is my NL grow, the second is one of my cali-o grows, third is my c99 grow.

Not too bad for a 150w, and not too bad for a cabinet...

Final thoughts: I'm actually quite pleased at the final results now that all's said and done. Overall yeild dramatically improved.

In addition to the buds shown, I also have about 2 oz of both buds and leaf from manicuring (coated in trichomes) and from lower most budsites. While not as desirable to smoke -- both the loser buds and the leaf trims are still very sticky none-the-less. This plant material will be used to make cannabutter

Need to re-up on genetics, light might wait. Next grow will be on its way soon! Either Oaxacan Sativa or Big Bud, seeing as how these are the only beans left atm.

Is that the video where they spend 1-2 minutes on cannabutter and then the rest is just like a cooking show? Every single item I read on making cannabutter has a different time to simmer it for. How long did you simmer yours?

I did the butter for 45 mins. Everywhere I read/hear is a different time as well, but in the video they said a half hour, so i did 45 mins. w/e. Its not too bad. Though it tastes heavilly of ganja. :D

Well, I currently have 10 Oaxacan sativa seeds, and 5 Big Bud seeds.

I just now placed an order for nirvana blue mistic, and papaya.

I would like to get a grow going, maybe the mexican sativa... But i think im going to wait until I get my new seeds. I'm really anxious to give papaya a grow... and blue mistics buds look quite exotic and yummy.

Ok boys and girls, time to start up the next grow! Seeds just came in today, and I shall waste no time. After parting with two 1/2 oz's too a cousin and a very close friend, pic 1 is my remaining stash.

In pic 2, I took a sterilite container and a hot knife and cut notches out of the side. Then I slide a wood dowl firmly in place and poked holes on each side of the plastic on both the top and the bottom of the container. Then I took string and tied the wood dowels in place tightly.

Next, tie the wood dowls at the top as seen in pic 3 leaving a couple inches os string between the two dowels.

Attach your light, add your cups, and secure them in the container w/ crumbled up paper towels (pic 4).

Go grab your seeds......

BongHitBoy420
03-29-2007, 11:48 PM
Next cut out drainage slit in your cups as seen in pic 1.

In picture 2, we have added soil, moisten the soil, and added seeds. Now you see a long strip of aluminum foil. This serves keep the warmth held in as well as the light. Seeds like warmth to germinate, and a plant requires a minumum of 1k lumen for life. This keeps that single 46w CFL's 3k lumen plus its warmth close.

Carefully wrap the aluminum around the wood dowel, then wrap the remainder of the aluminum around the container (pic 3).

In picture 4, we've formed the aluminum around the container, leaving an ample 6-8" hole in the top so the newly made nursery can breathe and is doesnt overheat.

What? What nursery? Simplicity, efficiency. Cheap, easy.

Stain: Blue mistic
Breemer: Nirvana

PS. you dont have to use a box, just like my ex -- "you can stick it anywhere" :P

And of course... you can line multiple containers up then just wrap all of them :) I'd do every other container w/ a light, or if in a square ares, a checkerboard pattern of lights. For my purposes, I only germinate 5 beans at a pop so each pack is good for two grows :)

I was bold and got a nice little bubbler. I love a water pipe, and I love smoking a bowl, and this little buddy combines the best of both worlds. I chose this piece because it was the most unique one I saw.

This is some chopped up cali-o w/ a 2x magnifying lens infront of the lens for clearity/quality. 1 hit of freesh green cali-o outta this pipe is enough. By god, 1 quality quality hit and your done. :stoned: :wtf4: woah where am i?

Main reason for posting, baby 5 has woken up. Pretty good germ method. Trick is to blow air in twice a day and mister bottle 2-4 half squirts once a day. Doesnt get too hot plus the seeds know fresh water is readily available and reliable. Plus, gotta love nirvana beans.

Again, strain is Blue Mistic.

I know its been awhile since I've updated. Again the strain is blue mistic from nirvana... They said experienced/advanced. Indeed.

They've definatly responsed differently than regular routine. I honestly, didnt want to post any picture because even I was ashamed as to how they're looking and wasn't sure if they'd pull through... But I've got em figured out now I believe.... And so now that I'm a few days away from flowering and they've returned to looking beautiful... Here's the BM update!

Went away for 4 days too... Only 1 plant needed attention so i pulled it to make room. 4 strong plants going into flowering. Believe 2 are female by pre-flowers. Other two unsure thinking 1 is male..... but its all good.

Had to post. Uneducated people make me laugh!!! I got into a conversation with a pseudo friend and weed came up. You have no idea how hard it is to bite your tongue when someone shits upon and/or goes apeshit "yuck" over homegrown. I look at them and say "someone's got to grow it... right? *shrug*." I must've laughed for 5 minutes shaking my head saying just shutup.... Heres whats been going on...

Thank god I had had cabinet and am very familar w/ lst, scrog, etc. Out of 4 plants, 3 were male and I had only 1 female. At first I was very upset about this and then it hit me. I grew a small plant under 150 watts and had amazing results... So lets go back to my roots and LST this plant up to maximize both space but also light penetration like I use to do in my cabinet.

You can see in pic one, I took the entire plant and shifted all branches to be as close to unrestricted light as possible... and as close to the light as possible.

I only have 1 plant, I need to maximize yeild as well, so while LSTing I kept scrog princibles in mind too as well as pinching and supercropping. This plant was about 3 feet before I got ahold of her. Shes maybe a foot tall now
pic 3 is the main cola... shes been trained good.

I lowered the HPS --ALOT--

Very cool inches above the plant. Ive seen what a 150 in similar setup/proximity can do. Always adapt right? Well... I did. Drastically.

4 plants to 1 sheesh. *crosses his fingers*

This beauty better bloom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Shes responded very well to the training though thus far

Does that fan take care of your heat. I think that it would be decently hot in there. What are you at? Sweet grow thoe bro

Appreciate the questions as always. Heat is no problem. Actually, not even a thought. If you consider that the thermistat is set at about 65 (ambient temp), 1/2 of that big old closet is vacant and the warm air has ample ample room to disappate into, and the fact its only a 250w fixture... Add in the fact that the fan is angled in to not only be blowing across the bulb but also the plant... Its just no worry. I can stick my hand in there just a few inches away from the bulb itself and its maybe not even luke warm and feels fuzzy.

My cab w/ the 150w light was warmer because the heat was trapped inside and totally reliant on small fans blowing air out of little tubes to keep cool. :)

As always, thanks again... and hope it helps!

:jointsmile:Worked in the dark. Pulled one side of the curtain down for the pic in a hurry! Seeing her bushyness out in the open last night gave me an idea... I believe theres a HEAVY sative influence because the plant is stretching. Upon closer observations the leaves are far more narrower than my previous grows and the classic marbling indica traits are not pressent. Unlike most other plants it does continue to grow and im past the typical two week major growth spurt. Also, buds are still less dense than prior grows and shes getting far more food than any previous grow either (6 damn caps per gallon and shes quite litterally eatting it up most ive ever gone was 3 w/ an occasional 4. plants also definatly responded differently as in she intentionally sheds lower leaves. im giving it FAR too much nitrogen this point into flower 3-12-5 dyndagrow complete soil/hydro nutes x 6 capfulls PER gallon?!? I may even be uping it again ( in perspective the huingriest plant ive grown was the c99, she started to nute burn at 4 caps. handled 3 perfect. cali-o is 2/3 i alternate ever wattering w/ a no feed flush seems to respond best. im stoned. rambling.

Point wasnt feeding ;)

I decided since its stretching so much and the closets full, ill toss 16k more lumen in. added a fan on the outside to aid in keeping the lamps cool and to blow even more fresh air in.

Shes stretching... i want everything thats there to bloom its ass off and grow fat and sticky sweet.

I thinking for certain tho this also means im going to have to go 9 maybe 10+ weeks. But nirvana's not let me down yet so we'll see........

BongHitBoy420
06-19-2007, 07:01 PM
Day 43 flowering... I will not grow this strain prolly again. Far far too fussy. She got nute burn pretty bad but I believe I stoped the yellowing... and once again avoided tragidy. She's beginning to fluffen up now and get her frosty sugar coating.

This is a taste test. Again, not as strong as anyother strain I've grown yet. Again I suspose ultimately only time will tell for this one......... But some smoke is better than no smoke -- and wait till I show you the results of good training even with a shitty responsive strain.

Other gripe this grow.... Blue mistic? Where's the blue??? I'm about to start papaya seeds soon.

The damage had been done and it began to compromise the buds so there she is. You can see how ugly she got...

However after manicure, for the most part... Beautiful. Excellent yeild. Decent quality. Only very few yellow leaves made their way as far as the bud itself. A few area not at all. 2 very full lids of buds and a third lid of smoke (bud pre removed from stem and pre chopped -- dries quicker and 0 stems... ready to smoke in a day or two minus cure)

Largest bud. Wet weight: 1 1/2 oz (still wet)

(pic1) Update time! And this strain is definatly indica. The leaves on these papaya are without a doubt the fattest most luciously plump blades i've grown yet. So as you can see they are looking nice and passing out of the seedling stage into vegative growth. Bottom leaves are starting to curl ever so slightly and i pick up the cup

.... (pic 2) and gotta love clear containers!!! Its time to transplant!

This is a technique i've just developed over time which makes transplanting simple. (pic3) Take your new containers and fill them w/ soil. Place a container the same size as the original container and compact soil fairly tightly around the container. From germ/seedling -> veg I usually leave a spare cup in the dirt as a placeholder so to speak.

This allows transplant to be done with minmal ease. Now in (pic 4) as you can see I've simply gathered everything to one convient location and am able to setup the closet before transplanting.

(pic 5) I tap out the plants with one hand and hold upside down, stem between my fingers... and with the other hand i remove the cup, plop, almost done!

--continued--

BongHitBoy420
07-26-2007, 10:26 PM
--continued from prior--

This is much better sen in pic 6, as is the nice root ball! Now having a root ball isnt bad, being root bound on the other hand, different story!

(pic 7) plants have been watered, soil has been pressed firmly down and evened out and here's looking down over the top "lid" or "flap"

Backing up................... (pic 8)

..... and in pic 9 our closet is closed ... and not so innocent anymore :wtf::thumbsup::wtf::thumbsup:

Really? The --ONLY-- bad experience I had from nirvana was with bigbud and thats because 8 of 10 seeds didnt germinate and I never have problems germinating so I dunno?!? As far as the lightning I stagger and add light as the plants need it. Also is easier on the electric bill -- no point running everything when I can still maximise growth on less wattage :) They usually start on 1 48 watt cfl and I add from there. Currently they're under 2 48 watt and 2 26 watt cfl daylights which is yeah about equivilant to my 150 but less lumens and different spectrum light. For flower yes, in prior grows I was using 1 sole 150w HPS, but I purchased a 250w HPS as well which again, allows me to stagger lighting patterns. Ultimately, with both the 150 and 250 running that is the ewquivilant of 400 watts and is ~16k lumen off the 150 and ~29k lumen off the 250 which totals ~35k lumen with both lights running (5k lumen loss over a 400 watt fixture but in my opinion the versitility and adaptability is worth the tradeoff). On nirvana's papays, breeder spec is 7-8 weeks flowering. GL w/ your grow

That being said I'll post again!!! Look at that, you can NOTICE them grow in 12 - 24 hr periods even... Its wild... But they really are looking quite lush.

So I know how everyone loves efficiency and whatnot... So employing the KISS (keep it simple stupid) stragity (and seeing as I've started seeing someone who ahem... potential?)a lil stealthier or how do we say not so -out there- approach might be advisable seing as im sure questions will be raised as to why its so damn bright in the junk room if its locked and noone goes in there right?

So basically I took the reflectors and added them (less light escapes from the top) and used two wooden dowels which I formed a " X " shape with. Using twist ties (i scavanged a few REALLY long ones from something i bought i dun recall) then kinda just spread the lighting out some...

Took a black sheet and under each corner of the top shelf of the closet I wedged the sheet up in there leaving a BIG drooping area for the space to still breathe. Half shut the door close the door door -- eh, what light?!? *shrugs*

Kiss. Easy works right? Why make it harder than it has to be.

No, I dont *plan* on LSTing or anything I want to let them go like with my cali-o grow. However, I want to try my hand at cloning again. I would really like to see this particular strain cloned... Ideally in a couple generations, I would like to progress to a SOG closet.

they R looking dam good.

Thanks

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So my attempts at cloning have always yielded disasterous. So, I was skimming a bit and decided to devise a way to ammend this problem. This is what I came up with. Its a smaller folgers coffee can, 10 gallon air pump with 2 1" air stones. Lid has 50 1/4" holes and where my creativity comes in, I took McDonalds straws, slit them down the middle and cut supports. Just because I have 50 holes doesnt mean I need to use them all or possible can get 50 cuttings to even fit on that tiny lid -- but its better to have them and not need them than to not have them. This is an experiment anyway. I still have more beans :)

Its sitting in the "nursery" that I use to germ, which I figure should suffice.

Here's to experimenting?!? Never stop. :upsidedow

Plants are now in the 3 gallon buckets and the 250w HPS is on... still 24/0.

I try to let them bask in the bright light a few days at 24/0 after the final transplant for two reasons... 1 in case of shock from transplant (dont wanna shock em going straight to 12/12) and 2... let them adjust to the added ++20k lumens from what they were getting.

Will prolly switch to 12/12 tue or wed at the latest (2-3 days)

Pic 1. *sigh* Appartments... 1 person sees a mouse and they come to bother everyone. Luckily, the closet pulls down in 10 mins -- and they give ya 1-2 days notice :)

Pic 2. So, where are they?!?!? Told ya I kept the old cabby around for a reason! Add in a box, and the fact im smart about my 12/12 lighting schedule... they were in the right about when they needed to be, and came out right about when they needed to be...

Pic 3. Its almost midnight so i might as well simply say and there ya have it at day 3 flowering. They are beginning the stretch!

Pic 4. So while they go that I took a few small cuts off bottommost branches. I know i know, people advise against taking cuttings from this node, but w/e im experimenting anyway. I still have time, I figure i'll give them a few days to see if they root anyway

1 male confirmed, cut and pulled.

1 female confirmed (the most lush of the entire group as well)

Re-set up cabinet into cloning/veg station. Mini DWC/bubbler cloner and 1 26w CFL. Exhaust fans running at 6 volts (variable power source, runs 1.5/3/6/9/12 volts and controls all 4 fans. Running at lower voltage = silent run.

Old cuttings discarded. The plant I wanted to clone showed it sex anyway so, new cuttings taken.

Day 10 flowering. Dark period. Adjusted height of lighting fixture in the dark, lights on and unwraped for 30 seconds to take a pic.

Plant on left is more stretchy, plant on right is much more compact and stocky... less stretch, tighter indernodes and branching patterns, larger leaves. Plant on the right was mother plant for cuttings, and I must admit fully I pray they root. I want clones of this plant for sheer growth characteristics alone.

Read my cabinet thread from start to finish. Read my closet thread from start to finish. I pretty much cover everything you need to know???

As far as cheap, cheapest you can get is dirt outside, bagseeds, and a light. This isnt my advice mind you, outside dirt is full of who knows and even decent nirvana genetics are cheap enough. As far as your skill level - its a plant? Not rocket science. Put the beans in dirt and it grows? You only get better from there. If you've read books you should have an idea, read more... threads!?!? I've got all the info ya need and please, improve upon it by all means

Two week mark. Day 14 Flowering. Raised the Reflext-x material via support string. Raised 250W HPS, added 150w HPS, added 1 46w CFL to lower canopy since light is more sparse in under canopy. 446 watts. ~ 35k lumens + 16k lumens + 3k lumens to undergrowth = ~54k lumens divided by two plants. Used pinching method on top cola of larger plant, will support by wood dowl if need be but the stem should get even stronger and this "supper cropping" technique may even make the top cola fatter in the end... But I mainly did it due to height. I dont think I ever truely discuss nutrients, but I swear by dyna-grow. All major and trace elements. Sutable for soil and hydroponic systems. Grow is 7-3-5 and bloom is 3-12-6. Plants get 1/2 gallon every other day, feeding every watering at 3 bloom cap fulls per gallon. Regular tap water, luke warm to slightly cool water. And yes, I use miracle grow... moisture control. So  to those who shit upon miracle grow

Quick question in regards to the Plexi shield that you used in the Cab.

I reacall you mentioning that it is placed 2" away from the light. Now is it flush up against each wall, or is there a gap between a certain spot?

I was thinking of maybe drilling a few holes in the plexi to help disperse the heat from the section in which it contains. That is if you did do it against each wall, Im prolly gonna do it that way, just wanted to see what an experienced fella would think

Respect.

Turtle! The very first person to post to me on cannabis.com back on my cabinet thread. Its an honor

Plans for next grow are playing with clones. The two in front were rooted well and have new growth... the other 3 had little sprouts and may not pull through but they got planted anyhow to make room for new cuttings in the little bubbler cloner. Considering you need a growing plant to clone to begin with, im taking every opportunity I can to practice cloning.

As far as a definative plan, Im really not sure... But ideally two clones will make it to flower next grow and as always I'll adapt as I go.

And thanks btw, they're budding very nicely for so soon into 12/12. Hope you enjoy the log. Peace and piece

Remote ballast

I read in one of you post that originally your 150w hps had the ballast attached to it and then you made it remote, i was just wondering how you did that because i got a 150w hps with an attached ballast

Get some heavy duty high grade extention cord (i use outside weather rated, more reliable in my opinion). Cut your both end and strip the wires down to the clean metal. Unscrew the ballast from the side of the light noting where your white and black wires lead into. From fixture to ballast there may not be a green ground wire, so I ignored it. On the lighting fixture, I used electric tape. White to white, black to black. Wrap good with the tape, then support both by wrapping them bother together afterward in tape. Run wire toward ballast. Where your white and black wires were attacted in the ballast to the ignitor and capacitor... add your extented white and black wires.

I of course am no electrician and i advise anyone from doing any such thing.

Thanks everyone. Stealth, Gotbeat :)

Now toying with pictures from previous grows... I was originally toying with the idea of a SoG closet... But taking past lessons (namely my blue mistic grow) ideas drew upon me. Plant count is a serious issue and I believe I can fill the closet just as well on 1 plant alone. Not so much a plant, not so much a bush, but im talking small tree.

Any input? Isn't the ideal to overgrow your area on as little # of plants possible? I believe it can be done and with great success.

Many ideas... Many ideas... Many ideas... With clones now so many possibilities...
I'm thinking... Perpetual staggering harvest. Clones keep plant age and genetics. These papaya are heavy hitters. If I put a 6" clone into the closet every 2 weeks, after the first harvest, I could harvest 1 smaller plant every 2 weeks.... In theory. And since they're clones they can flower smaller. They will be uniform. And most importantly, I can prune side growth and grow just headies (top colas) and maximize space by eliminating side branching w/ prune cuts...... Rambling. Tossing ideas on to the thread for me to toy with.

Since I clone via dwc, make seperate small dwc containers? Keep soil $ down... waters basically free. I might start pushing toward this but thats further down....

Hmmmmm.... :bonghit:

Day 39.

BongHitBoy420
09-19-2007, 08:44 PM
:DWith only 10 days to 8 week mark, i wasnt letting something like routine maitence (air filters changed - appartment) get in the way of a full flowering period. "Junk room" moved around any identifiable marks (ie southpark sticker on cab) removed. Full vaccume, air pump in cab turned off, "junk room" flooded obviously with o3 prior which was turned off because it runs. Black sheet doubled over window removed and used to cover entire grow area, second black sheet added for 3 layers of black cloth (keep it dark for plants, keep odor confided tented area, makes it look like a dark empty closet from outside). Wires tucked away, timer off. Neutra-air... great stuff... sprayed entire appartment then brewed coffee.

Left "junk room" door wide open, not even locked. Nothing to maitence in there newp. Peek your head inside :)

I always say adapt. The surrounding area is just as vital as the main area itself. Ask any lady *wink* 'ncluding these two ladies here

I've been bad but fuck it, its all personal anyway. I must've cut over an oz easily "sampling", but theres still alot of bud left. Here's a *good* sample of the yummiest of yummiest of buds.

All I have to say is this is my best grow to date in quality, density (these buds are fucking dense, the branches are too heavy removing the support reflect-x material causes them all to fall over), trichome development, and sheer estetic values (taste/smell/stickyness etc).

Right up there with cali-o (being my #1 fav nirvana strain). This is right up there. Easilly.

Papaya by nirvana gets my

Dense oily buds, nice smoke nice smell nice taste. Easy to grow, doesnt to nute burn easilly... water culture simple to clone no need to humidity dome or misting. ABSOLUTE DELIGHT

Since I was able to clone fairly easily with a dwc/bubbler, I'm going to experiment again. Last time I tried a dwc grow it was quite the failure. However I feel that I am at the point now that in order to further better my crop if at all possible, hydroponics will no doubt be the route to take. I do like the idea of cutting soil cost - and cleanup has got to be less dirty, obviously.

Here's to tryin.
Considering keeping a dirt clone around for cuttings as well just in case. Wish me luck

BongHitBoy420
10-16-2007, 08:32 PM
Considering this is an experiment i'll try to expand upon ideas. The idea of the two indivdual small tubs in my mind is two fold. One being a small area for further root development before transplanting into a larger system (which will come together when need be) and two, confine problems. If I fuck up on one plant, the other could potentially survive.

They do seem to like it so far. Using dynagrow nutes for my nutrient solution w/ ph down to about ph5.2 @ 2 tsp/gallon.

I have no instruments as of this time to read ppm/ec

hey, I got the opposite problem, my dwc grows have been mostly successess, whereas every single one of my soil grows have been utter failures, cant figure it out, anyways, good luck with the dwc, I find it rather easy, at the moment I'm only using mother earth bloom tea and superthrive with regular tap water, and its going great. Looking at that past thumbnail as I paruse my thread looking for new ways to "grow" err advance... I couldnt help but notice how easy the cloning/veg/recloning process was... how little space it truely requires... and the newest idea/breakthrough had dawned on me...

Tada, 4 more. Takes 2 1 to grow in 1 to root in. I have space for 2 plants in flower. With 6 total, I will be able to keep 3 strains going. And I will be able to flower varying strains.

Nirvana I love you, but I've had my eye on strawberry cough for quite awhile. I could never justify $200 on beans, but w/ the new prospect of a 1 time investment... g13xww cross looks yummy as well. BHB has ideas?!?

No pics on this idea yet, just ideas im toying with... but I've read alot about the active yeast/alcohol fermenting c02 process and was toying with an idea for c02 injecting into the air pump line for c02 in the root zone for the flowering plants.

Pic 3, started to develop problems so I couldnt guesstimate my ph down etc. bought a full range fishy ph test kit so i can at least get more ballpark.

Still, buds are nice... not as heavy as I expected -- im beginning to wonder if I kept clones of the wrong plant... This one shares more resemblances to one of the original mothers from prior flowering. That, or im still getting the hang of it. Definately thinking GH nutes 3 part flora and a digi ph reader. Considering the idea of abandoning my cabinet. Seeing the versitility of common containers, the easy/clenliness of dwc growing -- Enter phase 1 of bhb exclusive 4 plant mini dwc basket. Basket provides easy transport. Each container is held snuggly in place by thick styrofoam padding. 20-60 gallon duel line air pump is seated in a notch in the styrofoam to secure it and to help absorb vibration. Each line protected by a 1 way valve. Each line split into 2 via T connector with 1" airstone. Grow containers provide adaptability (ie mother area, clone area, and clone/veg areas... or just 4 plants w/e.)

Future plans may consist of basket seated in a larger container lined in reflect-x with styrofoam support, lighted removable lid, self ventiliation, 1 plug to wall cabability. In essence, a self contained hydroponic rubbermaid chamber (and 3/4 less cumbersome as the cabinet).

May I hijack this thread for a moment, please? I recently transplanted (6) plants from their seedling cups to 3 gallon containers. My media is Fox Farm Happy Frog. No added nutes. It is my first grow and I am trying to be as 'organic' as possible.
Any help would be appreciated.

it would be best to ask problem plants in plant problem section, but are all 6 clones the same strain, exactly how old are they, have you been giving nutes at all,

Once again, happy baby papaya clones. Already showing sex at every node. Plant age ~9 mos from seeded mother. :smokin:

Possibly too rough on the roots? Perhaps they are in shock it can happen. Give them a little time. Little less water. The plants respong quickly enough, watch them over the course of the next few days but give them up to a week if they look like they are still alive. G/l sorry for delay, i dont always go back and read over my own thread. lol :)

How do you guys get the close up pics of the trichromes on the plants, Ive got a digital camera and it wont get close enough without going blurry? thanks ollie

I take a simple rite aid mag. lens and adjust/zoom/focus by hand/distance from plant to lens and lens to cam. Its crude by effective.

You need to have a camera with a large aperture like 1.8 or a camera with a macro mode.
