Hey guys, I have 25 plants under a 1000 HPS lamp.
Iā??m just wondering how tall the plants should get before I turn the light to a 12/12 cycle! I do not want to veg for too long for no reason and still want to maximize my yield.
You can see how tall they are right now with the picture with a normal compact disc in front ā?¦ Should I flower them now or wait a little longer ????
Thanks for you help,

well, your plant will probably double in height from when you start 12/12 till harvest. how tall you let them get is your decision, depending on how much space you have and how much your light can cover
I usually flower at 1ft myself, if I wait till all my plants are at least 1ft, they end up 38-40"; if I wait till the first one of them hits a foot, they all end up near 22-26". Just my experience, and it's still totally your choice. Seems to me 2ft plants are much easier to bathe in light.

how much space you have and how much your light can cover
The 25 plants together cover an area of 5 X 5 .... The light pretty much covers that area but I will have to rotate my girls every once in a while ...
My only goal is to maximize yield and I read somewhere on this board that taller does not mean more yield cause the top of the plant absorbs all lumens leaving almost nothing for the bottom ???????
Please help.

Well that's the basic idea. There is better light at the top for sure and your light penetration is always a limit.
If you want to maximize yield though then veg longer. Bigger plants will produce more bud than smaller plants.
One technique that people use in a SOG is to trim off the bottom few branches which will field relatively small amounts of bud. You could trim up your girls below the waist, give them a week to recover and then flower. You should end up with a bunch of decent colas doing that.

He means verticle height. How high can your plants possible grow in your setup? alot of people say that a plant will double in size some people say they are capable of tripling in size. The bigger your plant is going into flower the bigger it will be at the end of flower, the bigger the yeild it can support.

Well, the ceiling is 10 feet tall so I guess they could still grow for a while but I have to keep in mind that I have 25 of them .... The taller they get, the wider they get as well and that could be a problem ... I think!
I donā??t know if anyone can even answer without seeing the setup in person ????
The question is How tall should my 25 plants (under a 1000 HPS) be before I turn over to a 12/12 light cycle in order to maximize yield in a 5 X 5 space with a 10 feet ceiling ???
