Jan 26, 2007 â?? WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Senate on Friday confirmed Army Gen. David Petraeus as the next commander of U.S. forces in Iraq even though he supports a boost in American troops that many senators oppose.

Widely regarded as one the army's brightest commanders, Petraeus, who was confirmed on a vote of 81-0, told senators earlier this week that the situation in Iraq was "dire" but not hopeless.

Petraeus, who has already completed two Iraq tours, will be charged with implementing President George W. Bush's plan to send 21,500 more U.S. troops to Iraq in an effort to halt spiraling insurgent attacks and sectarian violence.

An 81-0 vote from a newly elected senate that "proclaims" that they are against an esculation in troops; but yet they unanimously vote in a General that was FOR the plan? The same people that are creating "NON-binding arbitration" against the plan. Your tax dollars at work.

I think some of the folks that voted for the left got the wool pulled over their eyes. Make the big speaches but voting records speak for themselves.

Have a good one!

I think they voted him in as they thought he was a good man. The job he has been given is impossible. If this hairbrained plan works (more of the same) I'll eat my hat, (well I don't wear a hat) but I'll eat my words. This plan is destined for failure and at least a thousand more Americans are destined to die because of it. Any takers on this bet, At least a thousand more!

YOU PEOPLE BEEN HAD! The Dems vote DOES NOT reflect the position they preach or were supposedly elected on.

Are you asking for a bet on 1000 for the Bagdad clean-up? Make it interesting if that's the case.......LMAO! How about a thread stating how great and wise the other person is.......REALLY play it up........LOL. I know it would kill me as much as it would you!:D

Consider it..............;)

Consider it a deal if I live that long, who knows these days! The Democrats had no choice. they can not stop the idiot from going ahead with his crackpot plan, so why not give the troops the best leader available. This was a choice of voting no and looking like you don't support the troops or voting yes and taking criticizm from people like you. To me it's a no brainer, if you cant stop the asshole, then give the troops the best man you can and hope that when he finds out (like he said he would) he tells the idiot (Bush) that we can't win a military war in the midst of a 6 million man civil war! Or look for a suck ass that will say anything Bush wants like the last ten commanders!Balls in your court 'O' great and wise one~LOL~

BTW the current count is 3066. it starts now! If Bush or Petreas pulls out, the bet is off, but we both know that as long as Bush is President, that will never happen. He'll just fire Petreas and put a yes man in there! Have a good one yourself!
