When do you let the clones go if they haven't rooted yet? To some strains take longerto root than others? And if the clone takes well will clones taken from it root well too? And what's the shortest top of a plant that can root, since the stem is so think(keep in mind Casey, Jaz And Bella, I was LSTing and they were sliced by the line and lost their tops, which I've put in with the clones)?

I have taken clones that are really really small.. Check my Log you can see some really BAd clones that still rooted.
It can give you a good idea of the worst possible situation...
hahahahahaha
Good luck kd
the log is in the Cabinet section CFL GROW LOG

yeah i took a really small clone by accident (i dropped a gallon jug on a plant...yikes!) and it's doin just fine. i think technique is what matters the most, but in general clones taken from bottom of the plant are actually the easiest to root! I got this info from Jorge Cervantes grow bibly btw... and what he says is the bottom of the plant is the easiest to clone/root cause it's got the newest hormones, and the top of the plant is hardest to root cause it has the newest hormones. This sounds sort of backwards to me, but that's what he said. I usually only clone the top of the plant cause that's generally where all the offshoots are so I don't personally know if the bottom parts of the plant root faster or not.

Hehe..I think you meant "oldest" in the first part. ;)
Yes, some very small clones have been rooted. I have some examples as well.
In my belief, if the orignal clone rooted quickly, future clones will also root as quickly when given the same environmental conditions.
I personally would scrap a clone after 20 days of waiting. Most clones will root by the 14th day but some are slackers. 20 days would be my personally 'give-up' point. At that far along, I'd pull the clone out (as gently as possible) to verify that it has not started rooting, then trash it. If it has a little roots...then I might keep her around, if it was necessary for sexing or if I just "had the room." But if you have other clones from the same plant, scrap it. It's not worth the real estate nor the headache.

Say I really wanted to save a clone and have it root. At what point is there no hope left? I really don't want to give up on those tops I hacked off(you know the story) and I was really hoping to have at least one of each plant and as it stands one strain I have multiples and the other strain I have only 1! When do I finally give up? I would be willing to be very patient.

you'll be able to tell. if it dies, the whole thing goes limp, and looks completely dead, with no "lush spots"
