third closet grow (purple power seeds)

hi all another grow on the way.here are my purple power at between 2-3 weeks i tried fimming them but i think i just cut too hi when i did it. i only have 6 this time so hopefully 3 females.

it all looks great.....im not sure if it is but is that water on the floor next to the cords in the first pic....might want to watch out for that, other than that its good.....do you plan on using the cfls for flowering?

Hey Greenhorn,

Go to walmart and get yourself some of those emergency blankets and line your area with it. Theyre only 1.50 each and you wont believe the light increase you will get.

^That is a great idea, you should get the water away from all electrical devices! DANGEROUS. keeko has a point, your not going to get much out of them flowering with cfls... They are more of a veg light... :stoned: You should at least get some T5s (http://www.specialty-lights.com/fluorescent.html) or something.

hey all thanks for the replies. first off that was water next to the cords. lol was in a hurry waterin that day. and as for my light set up. who said i was flowering yet? its barely been 20 days and i do have a hps 250 watt. but i wasent gonna install it tell it was time to flower. i just transplanted my plants 2 nights ago into bigger pots so now there alot higher off the ground. and i have a fan in there as well. and i started LST today.

THE PLAN
with this grow i plan on trying a scrog grow. i know normally u use clones with a scrow grow but i aint got any. i plan on traing my plants for another week or so and then maybe start flowering. it will be a little early for flowering but i need to seperate my males and females before i put the screen down. if there is any coments, concerns, or questions pls do tell cause this is only my THIRD GROW. any help would be greatly apreciated. and my first grow didnt make it past germination. lol

im flowering day 3 now. but my hps light still hasent showed up so i started flowering with my cfl's just so i can sex them sooner. but hopefully my hps is here soon.

For veg, your 250 watter might be enough. However, for flower, well that's the time you really want to pour on the light. I'm thinking you should try to get at least 400 watts in there.

In general, you want to use as much light as your ventalation system can keep cool, and your circuit breaker will handle. More light directly equals more bud, up to a certain point, but you are nowhere near that point.

Also as someone mentioned above, you should line your walls with mylar or something shiney. This is the cheapest and easiest way to increase yield.

I was planning on doing about the same setup as you have with cfls for veg and a 250 hps for flower. I have a couple of questions before I start her up. I'm using a 95watt 6100K compact fluorescent and 2 42 watt compact fluorescents for veg. My closet is 6ft by 21in. I was wondering if this is adequate light for veg if I put aluminum foil up on the walls.

Another big concern is how will I get the air moving around in my closet. I'm planning on putting a fan in there, but I can't really keep my closet door open all the time. I wanted to know if you've taken any steps to solve this problem. Also i was thinking about cutting my closet in half with a tarp or something so I could have both stages going on at once in my closet. If i'm using a 250watt hps and a 95 watt cfl for flowering plus the 95watt cfl and 2 42watt clfs for veg will it be getting to hot in there. I only have 10.5 square feet. I wanted to get some opinions on whether or not its possible to pull of 2 stages in such a small space with shitty ventilation (opening the closet door). Total I'll have 524 watts of light plus the wattage for the water pump and 2 fans. I was thinking I would need to get a surge protector rated at 1500 joules. I don't know how I came up w/ that so any advice would be much appreciated.

I forgot to mention I'll be using an ebb and flow hydro system with the pump on all the time. I don't know what the benefits of having the pump on all the time, but the website says it will continuously be pulling oxygen down from the roots. The dimensions on the unit are 24L x 17W x 13H and has holes to grow up to 9 plants (All for $75 and includes nutrients, rockwool, media, pots and water pump). I was planning on growing 8 around the perimiter and LSTing. This would be my first real grow. If anyone has any tips or see flaws in my setup please tell me and if anyone has used this unit before or ones like it I would like to know what you think about it. I won't be getting it for 2 days and I'm hella excited. I figure its probable not the best system, but for the money its right on. If my veg works out well with it then I'll be buying another for flower.

I just talked about a whole bunch of different stuff but if you can help me out with ideas for any of it, it would be very appreciated.

first off i know nothin about hydro systems. all i know is from my grows and this is only my second real grow cause my first of the three didnt make it past week 2.

in my experience the smaller wattage soft white cfl's work best for veg. u seem to want to use the cfl's i use for flowering for your veg cycle. its up to u but the type of lumens a 43 watt cfl produses is best for flowering. and the smaller ones are best for veg.

i curently have 6 plants in my closet and it is packed. i wish now i had only planted 4. cause with less plants, u can groom them better and take care of them properly. althou in a couple days i should be able to seperate the males and females and i will then have way more room. but be sure to take that into consideration.

my last grow i used aluminum foil. wich works alright but u do get heat burns. try to paint the inside of your closet with white paint if u can instead. (flat white) works best.

all i have is 2 fans in my closet. cause i did not wanna cut any holes in my wales. and the door is shut almost all the time. the temp stays alright either with my cfl's 8 of em or with my 250 hps. but i think with both they would be to hot.

k i found 1 more male. so now im down to 3 females. i re organized my cabnit got rid of the males. and put in my wire screen.i have the plants spread fairly evenly in a week or 2 there should be a nice sea of green in my screen. here are some pics tell me what u think.

Hey Green Horn

Your only 21 days into flowering. You should start to see some more action around day 30. You have done quite a bit of trimming, and also keep in mind that you plants are a bit on the thin side, but they will start to bud. Ive grown purple power a couple times, and I'm telling you, its one of the most beautiful pot plants that I've seen, and I've seen some wild stuff. Anyway Green Horn, just kick back and watch the show like the rest of us. :thumbsup:

hi all just got back from holidays and checked out the grow. all my plants got huge and bushy and they stretched to the light alot. some are only inchis away. should i raise my light some or should i just leave it there? ill post pics tonight or soon. i have alot of trimming to do.

trimming might not be the best option this late in the grow. Concentrate on tying down all the growth to the screen. Try to fill up the whole thing. Once you get all the growth tied to the screen you can really dial in that light as the canopy should be really even or screen height. Watch the show.

I'm going to have to agree with Mulletman on this one. It's to late to be doing ALOT of trimming on your plants, let them bush up a little bit. Just try tieing some of the branches down a bit just to open things up a little. Can't wait to see the pics. Oh yea, if your light isn't to far away from the plants (1-2ft) then its just the plant growing alot, don't forget MJ plants increase in size up to 250% when flowering. hey all been real busy. just thought i would give a little update. i found another male about 6 days ago wich sux. but i still have 2 females. my screen is a little less full now thou. i actually ended tying down alot of the big branches to the screen just to get a more even canopy. they are just starting to bud right now wich is alot later than my white widow strain i just finished. my camra is on the fritz right now thou. so i will post pictures when i get it working again. peace

Are you seeing purple??? I think you should at least see some of the fan leaves with a hint of purp. . . Do me a favor and the next time you water drop like 4 ice cubes in each pot. Let me know if I am speaking out of place, but you got to get that room down to 50-60 before any major purple will be showing. . . Cold is key. . .Purps. tend to be a very damp plant so if it has the heat and the light it will grow like crazy. . .

hey all sorry i havent replied in a while but my digi camra has been on the fritz and i cant get it to work its day 55 but my plants dont look like there where they shoud be. i think it has part to do with the trimming of fan leaves i had to do. my scrog attempt worked in away. but not the way it was sposed to. regardless i have 2 plants and a ton more budsites than my last grow wich had 5. i am gonna have so much more pot this time it just seems to be takin along time for it to grow and reach maturity. i dont have really any purple buds or leaves or anything still so im a little worried. hopefully ill get camra workin soon.

Myne are around day 50 and still look like they could use a week or two. Finally started seeing some purple on one or two. Been giving mine plain ol water for the past week. Trying to get my nightime temps down a bit I think it helps with color. Good luck man and sounds like they want more time.

hi all just stoned thought i would type some shit. ya i mean day 55 from 12/12 on my white widow grow i choped em down bout now. these ones arnt nearly as fast. and i think your right about low temps helpin for color cause my temps are always a little high and these things dont have any purple at all yet. on a good note this SCROG method of growing rocks. i have only 2 females right now and im lookin at 3 times the weed with them as i had on those 5 females last grow. im always gonna grow like this and i defanitly recomend any newcomers try it.mine is not nearly perfect but it still helps so much.sure its a little work but the rewards are amazing. im really tryin to get my camra workin again to show u all. peace

these frigin plants just keep growin into the light. they should be done by now. instead there not even close. hardly any purple yet. but i keep havin to tie them down and shit and then the side shoots start growin strait up and there is a ton of em i will get tons of weed off this but it is just takin along time. i wonder why it is takin so long?

this is crazy i have 3 long plants tied down and 2 i couldent tie down so there like a foot above the light right now lol. and it seems like they could still use a couple weeks. i could not tie anymore down cause my closet was already way to full. and im already blocking alot of light from the bottom areas of the plant. nothing i can do hopefully it will turn out ok.

im not even sure how many days it's been but my plants are finally startin to thickin up a bit. there is not any purple in the buds thou. im thinkin it was too hot of a cabnit fot them and that's why they took longer. quick question thou. now that there thickinin up there startin to lose alot of leaves. there just shrivilin up and dying. all the buds are fine but i wonder why a bunch of leaves are shrivilin up? is there any reason to be concerned about this? oh and i plan on borowin a friends digital cam soon. ill post pics asap.
