hey i just had mine out recently and wondered the same thing, for me it was easier to take bong rips than hit a little pipe because with the pipe i was using my mouth to inhale, but when i used the bong the inhaleation(even a word?) came from my diaphram(stomache breath).

it has nothing to do with what your smoking, it's the action of sucking in. if you suck in too much, it will pull off blood clots and skin that are growing in to cover the holes where your wisdom teeth were. its very bloody and it leaves the are open to infection, etc....it's called dry sockets. if you take care of yourself for 2-3 days afterwards you should be good to go. no straws either

scroll down a few posts, there's been a disccusion on it..
I smoked when i got my wisodm teeth out. Just be very gentle when you suck in and don't go crazy with it.

This is all good advice. What you want to avoid is negative pressure inside your mouth, meaning, don't SUCK on anything, including a pipe. Try to take diaphragm breaths if you do toke, and whatever you do, don't smoke cigarettes or joints. The smoke may irritate the site, but what you are mostly trying to avoid is the dry socket, which mostly happens from sucking on things or sneezing violently or stuff like that. Try eating it instead, if you can manage food.

Yeah, I smoked after 4 wisdom teeth got pulled, and I got dry socket... I didn't suck hard at all, but just the smoke irritating it did it. Hurt like a bitch.
Try eating some cannabutter or something soft with cannabis in it... it'll definately take the pain away :D
Remember to eat soft foods when you get the munchies!

i dont think i can make any weed foods, cuz i dont have the necessary items to do that... but i can hit my pipe with no sucking for sure or at least not to irritate my mouth... how common is dry socket??

It inhitbits healing because it restricts blood flow One More Reason Not to Smoke (http://www.healthlink.mcw.edu/article/908162106.html)
However, I believe through research that cannabis will be fine...you should look more than just asking on a message board. If you had bothererd to do a search on Cannabis.com you would have found this http://boards.cannabis.com/medicinal-health/54884-smoking-after-oral-surgery.html. Sorry if that came out rude, I just feel everyone should take thier health and health problems seriously. As a side note, I believe that cannabis would be a better pain reliever than any T3's/Percs/Vic (IMHO) Bree

when I got one of my teeth pulled, they told me not to smoke. But I did, and I didn't get a dry socket, but then again I think it was just pure luck! I wouldn't risk it, dry socket is supose to be very fuckin painfull! just lay off the weed for a few days...
