Hey guys, one of my plants about 1 month old.. vegging on 24/0 with 250watt hps, seems to have like yellow spots on the tips of its LOWER leaves, and some of the leaves are turning yellow.. i heard this is a problem with N not being taken up by the plant properly so i have watered the plant twice (when i stuck my finger into the pot, no soil stuck to my finger) with 1 tsp of epson salts and it still hasnt solved my problem leaves still looking odd with yellow dots and yellowing on. Any ideas on whats the problem or howto sort it out.

P.S. I havnt used any nutes on these babys yet..

Happy Growing!

Howdy MikeOD,

Well...there are alot of questions to be asked, like what's the ph of the water that you're using ? -for starters. Also, are you using a potting soil mix that already has some fert supplement in it ?

How long has it been since you gave them epson salts ? It takes a little bit of time, for plants to respond. They are old enough now,to start giving them ferts..but if the water that you're using doesn't have a ph in the 6.8 - 7.0 range, you will have an uptake problem. If possible, post a pic of the plant in question. Also, did you grow this plant from seed..and if so,was it from bag-seed or good genetics ?

Have a good one...Torog

how tall are the plants?
chances are, if they are taller than a foot and a half the lower leaves arent getting enough light and are being shed.
pH will also do it.
as will por drainage.
as will poor ventilation.
as will temperatures outside the comfort zone.
as will combinations aof all of the above.
:)

Hey, thanks for the quick replies. In response to torog:

I gave them epson salts last week and this week (and will continue to do so till i see a change). Im using bottled water from a local spring (so it should be ok, but ill buy a ph testing kit and check that and the soil tommorow). I can't post a pic of the plant, because my camera is broke atm, also they are decent seeds cost £60 femminized W.W and bob marleys best.. so they have good genetics. And its not fert burn from the soil as it has very minimal only neccessary nutes in it.. not enough to burn them anyways.. also the other plants that im growing are fine.. watered with the same water and used the same soil..

In response to Imotep:

The plants are about 25cm tall they aint very tall yet just real bushy.. its not the leaves dropping off its definatly some kinda deficiency theyre like yellow/rustyish looking spots on there.. the plant is getting light at the bottom so its not down to that i dont think anyways. Its got excelolent drainage.. (50% soil 50 % perlite) its got proper ventilation so thats not a problem. Not to sure about the temps though, will purchase a thermometer tommorow and find out..

so hope this helps a bit more. Thanks again.

those genetics are hungry. feed em up.
N will be taken to the new growth from the old.
i feed everyday full strength nutrient into soil/perlite mixes. flush once a weekish.
