I love debating with people about the merits of voting for third parties.

From my point of view voting doesn't really have an effect. It all comes down to who gets money for advertising and that happens long before Joe USA gets a vote. To me the value in voting is in voicing dissent and dissatisfaction.

Every for years we are given a choice. Do we want it in the ass or in the face because we are going to screwed either way. While I have no expectation a third party will get elected, and if it ever does the guy will probably be as bought as the other two parties, I like knowing that is one more vote against the status quo.

What do you guys think?

I think a 3rd party could win if they would change the election laws as to how people get there names on the ballots. Kind of hard to win when your name only appears on ballots of 4 states. But they would need someone big as well. Howard Stern as an independent? He got the money, he got a mon-fri talk show, and 2 channels on Sirius dedicated to just him. Maybe not Howard Stern but another Ross Perot to shake things up for the 2 main parties.
