Yup! They Can!! I.P Tracing is not that hard to do at all. For example...211.328.232.119=1234 So Main St Anywhere Montana USA.
This is a fictious I.P...Just an example

No. I don't think anyone can find your house through your ip addy. They can figure out your isp and general area, but not exact location. That's why the recording companies had to sue ISP's for customer info a few years back. Only your ISP knows where you live and unless you download some kiddie porn or blockbuster movie, they won't tell no one.
At least that's how I understand it. I welcome anyone to explain how I'm wrong.

that is a matter of record with your isp and there are ways of getting the record...

it is very possible to find out where you live just with your ip, including address... but, not just anyone could get it.... the police/authorities would have to get a warrant (if the isp isn't cooperating)...

TraceRoute is an old tracer program that was coded by analogx I believe, and realeased in the late 90's....you type in an ip and it shows you the ending node, and every node contacted in between the tracer and the destination. However you could put yourself behind a proxy and then it makes it look like the ending node is you but in fact is an anonymous proxy server.

the only real reason to use proxies is if you are doing something ilegal ,,,like pedo, identity theft,,,hiding money etc... if you use the internet in any way the road will ultimately lead to you...
don't think that proxies don't have logs...

Proxies are very complicated to use and find,,,I tried it one time and got frustrated... proxies are also just another hurtle to jump and they come online and offline like the wind...

I know at least 3 people (hackers) who could find anything and anyone, it isn't easy but it can be done.
I have software which is borderline legal that can backtrace any attempt to hack my network ,it was written by a friend and the same guy gave me software to enable proxies to divert any trace back to my machines.

If you are so scared about your IP address being traced, you can get an IP hider. Go to google and search for one. or u can try a trial like the one at this site: Download Hide IP 2.1 Free Trial - Want to hide your IP address? - Soft32.com (http://www.soft32.com/download_80942.html). I used to have one that i owned because i used to hack. It makes things much easier, but you also may have to find a good IP. Good luck.

one word "WHITEPAGES". You can do ip reverse look-ups. Meaning BUSTED. Everytime you visit a web site your ipi is recorded in a data base. It would be hard to just find your ip by hacking somewhere you have no idea exists. But if you where to go on aol, aim, icq, mirc, or games like , diablo1and 2, red alert 2 and so on, W.O.W. i could do a "whois" and find your ip then hack you using what ever program would suit me getting in and also i can give you a call after about 10 - 15 minutes....
want me to show you? the phone call that is, lol

i'm thinkin that, not counting authorities (who could get anything they wanted if they went about it the right way), maybe using that site, and any slip ups you might make online, they might could narrow down your location to a street...
but all this is pure speculation and highly unlikely

Did you just make this entire post up? I mean it literally seems like you just pulled it out of your ass..
Traceroute was created by a man named Van Jacobson in the late 1980s. It was originally standard on all unix-based installs. Windows has a similar program called tracert. It works by increasing the TTL (time-to-live) with each batch of "packets" that are sent out. The first few packets have a TTL value of 1, and it increases from there. A TTL value of 1 means that they make a single "hop". When a packet reaches the next host, that host then increases the TTL by 1 and forwards it on. Your computer then recieves these packets back, and calculates the time between packets (called latency).

With out warrants they can't search for your ip or so they say, but simply going into a chat room i can get your ip then find where you live and phone number and ssn, d.o.b. etc. It is recorded on websites you visit, so government can get it that way if they wanted to do it the "legal way". My ip will be recorded once i post this because the server is talking to my ip and saying ok well 72.126.74.230:2301 i will post this packet off data you sent by using what my designer gave me in my html code or java and put it there. Simply cloning your ip can prevent your ip being leaked. MAC address for my computer... a4:d1:e7:c9:3d which will change every thirty minutes. I have static address which means my ip changes randomly. Common with DSL modems. STATIC AND MAC'ing your ip should work good and it is very easy to do:rastasmoke:

What the fuck did you just say? Why do people think they can just make shit up and post it on a message board? First off, unless my IP address corosponds with a domain name registration in a WHOIS database or something, you cannot get my information with just my IP address. The only informatin that is recorded is things related to your IP address (such as browser type, referring link, etc).
Not only is that IP not currently leased, but the port number doesnt even make sense. Cloning your IP has nothing to do with it being leaked. Dont even get me started on that.. Why would your MAC address change every 30 minutes? That doesnt get sent any further than your cable modem. A MAC address is a name that DOESNT CHANGE for a specific piece of hardware (NIC card, cable modem, etc). Its how network devices address eachother. If it kept changing it would be pretty difficult for your router to talk to your NIC card, huh?
You have a static IP, huh? Well that means it DOESNT change. Yeah, really. Look it up. The word you are looking for is DYNAMIC (Characterized by continuous change, from dictionary.com).. Even then it doesnt change randomly, but rather "leased" for a period of time from 30 minutes up to two weeks, or more.
So no, "static" and "MACing" are not very easy to do. In fact they are just plain made up.

Like Ive said before, they can trace your IP to the address its leased to (your ISP). You guys dont own your IP, you are borrowing it from someone else.

No. But its possible to get a proximity of your whereabouts. Also note that most people have a dynamic IP (changes from time to time) so normal users really don't have to worry other than ISP logs.

Yes they can. They can just call your ISP and ask for info about your i.p. and if they have the rights to get the info they will get it. It's something like that lol.

Unless you have an Exacto knife or long fingernails, it's hidden pretty well.

Your mac address is burned into your nic card you would have to get a new nick or rewrite your firmware for ur nic(which can ruin ur nic) to change your mac address

Now to shut your retarded ass up....
Do you even know what an NIC card is or what it does? I'm thinking not. Let me explain.
Your ISP is comcast (example) they give you an ip to connect to, then your computer sets an ip. Virtual Networks start with 168.?.?.? and you will not have access to the internet but can still use netwroking such as L.A.N (local area netwrok), wireless, or fax modem. 192.?.?.? is a standard factory setting for a router and 72.?.?.? signals a connection with your isp has been established. Well MASKING your IP or Cloning your mac address does work because your covering up what your isp provides you for an ip, thus allowing your ip to be encrypted or CLONED, or masked. When you visit the web site you visit, think about it as though your commiting a crime and left finger prints.... i can take those ip's(finger prints) and do reverse look-ups a.k.a FINDING YOUR PERSON.
Now can an average person playing hacker get your ip from a website mostly NO!!!!
As for the retarded comment "First off, unless my IP address corosponds with a domain name registration in a WHOIS database or something, you cannot get my information with just my IP address. The only informatin that is recorded is things related to your IP address (such as browser type, referring link, etc). "
I was using whois as an example for "mirc" or "AIM", or ICQ. If I direct connect with you using kazaa, warez p2p, limewire etc.. i can get your ip using "whois" "netstat" or whatever fucking else i want to use or feel like using at the time. When I find your ip I can try doing a port buster and find what port your using, then hack you (if your using windows) MACINTOSH'S are different and harder to hack do to reading and writing threads.
I could keep going but i think i explained myself enough to make you realize i do know what i am talking about. And of course i said it before, try me and i'll show you.
P.S. THIS STATEMENT IS NOT TO BE TAKEN SERIOUS IN ANY MANNER AND TO READ THIS MEANS YOU UNDERSTAND THAT THIS IS A SIMPLE STATEMENT NOT TO BE TAKEN AS FACT!!!!!
.... I could hack into this web site using brute force to crack password(s) and design a program (script) to record ip's coming in and out, thus allowing me to do what i said above.

Yeah, I was going to say something about the static/dynamic thing, alcohol. Hehe.
Yes, most people have dynamic IP addresses and dynamic DNS addresses. I wouldn't take take that as any sense of security, however. Anyone looking for you won't be stopped by a dyn IP.
That is to say, "the feds." The average joe isn't looking for you.
