I'm tired of being the fatkid, and im finally going to do something about it. My exercise plan so far is 45 minutes walking/jogging/running, then after my lungs get better and I get less fat, add sprinting up hills to that. Also, I'm going to be doing 30 minutes of weights. What foods should I eat and what foods should I stay away from?

Don't be a dork. :)

Well Fatkid, I'm glad to hear you want to lose weight, but before you start, you have to ask yourself, do you really want to lose it? The only way you'll be successful is if you have 100% motivation to do it, and are prepared to make some sharp lifestyle changes.

The key to losing weight is burning more calories than you take in. Try to cut out anything that is high in calories. Pop and juices are a killer. A can of pop packs about 170 calories, and juices can pack just as much. Drink water and pure juices.

If you drink alcohol, cut it out 100%. If you like to drink though, no more beer! I can't say it enough, but a bottle of beer has 350 calories. If you want to drink, do it in moderation, and use Diet sodas with hard liqours, or use pure juices. Beer is no good anyway you look at it, so don't drink it.

No more munching out either! Munching is so good, but if you get the craving, eat something healthy. Veggies and dip is always good. Fruit like apples, oranges, and pineapple are kickass when stoned. Just eat something healthy.

And finally, exercise. You won't lose weight sitting down, so if you're in school, consider walking to school if it's in a reasonable distance. I mean, a 2mile walk to school everyday is a jackoff session, so if you can walk, then do it.

After you get out of school, consider walking home, having an apple or something healthy like celery with cheese whiz, or celery with peanut butter. Grab a bottle of water, and go walking.

Don't overdo things at first. I know, I was an eager person to lose weight once and let me tell you, it takes time. It won't go away overnight. It will take months of getting in the habit and getting that workout.

Walk at first. See how far you can get before getting overly exhausted. Everyday, increase your walking or running time, and distance. Walking, running and riding a bike, are the best ways to lose weight.

Lifting weights is good for building muslce, and building muscle comes along with A LOT of eating, which is something you want avoid right now, so I wouldn't even bother with weights. Just walk or run. :)

I managed to lose 50lbs last year. I biked 20km a day, ate only 3 meals a day, and something healthy fo snacking, and in about 5 months, I was down a good 40lbs.

Take up some martial arts too. I took up kickboxing and not only did I learn to knock someone unconcious, I got a wicked workout.

You can do it FatKid. It just takes motivation and the want to lose it, and ask yourself why you want to lose it, and do it!

Good luck bro!

drink only water, do more endurance exercises if you soley want to lose wait and not build muscles, so jogging / walking / cycling maybe even running up and down big sets of stairs?
stay away from obvious junk food, drive less if you drive.

Avoid:
-Refined foods or any sort. Sugars, corn syrup, white flour, etc. Replace with fruit juice sweetened stuff and whole grains.
-Fried anything. If you want to have something fried, panfried in olive oil, no breading, is the best you can do.
-Ground beef... the stuff at restaurants is RARELY the good, lean beef. Learn to love veggie burgers or turkey burgs. Much better!

And remember to drink lots and lots of water, as your body needs it to metabolize fat.

Your plan sounds good! I just want to add it's easier to stick with if you have a workout buddy!

Good luck!

Good luck man I admire that you realise you have a problem and that you are keen to deal with it.
No chowder has pretty much summed it up , healthy food and healthy excerise are the keys.
I would like to point out that not all alcohol is bad , a glass of red wine daily is good for you. THATS A GLASS NOT A BOTTLE lol

go to subway! you could be like jared!!!

i'm glad i'm not fat.. cuz i hate subway.

I should have mentioned, alcohol isn't completly bad for you. There is nothing wrong with a daily beer or glass of wine. They say it's actually healthy for you.

i've never heard beer being good for you, heard of wine being good for you tho, red wine to be exact. i think it's cuz they're filled with anti oxidants...

its simple.

Burn more cals then you take in. I mean, that works on EVERYONE!!!!

Its not about eating fancy, eating more, eating less, eating this or eating that, it all comes down to being honest with yourself, and saying your willing to work off what you eat today. If you cant work it off, go with something lighter. It doesn't get easier then that...

eat celery, lots of it... you burn off more calories eating the stuff then it has in it... can't lose :) atleast use that for snacks inbetween meals.

BFS - Bigger, Stronger, Faster. I was never obese but I am built like a fire hydrant, and a southern Italian. I am not skinny, and I never will be but I can get cut, and that is what I am trying to do now, get in the best possible shape I can be in, I DO NOT want to be 40 years old 100lbs overweight and cannot do anything like half of our lazy ass country. Here is my workout routine. I'll talk about eating right after.

Legs and Abs Reps Week 1 Week 2 Week 3 Week 4 Week 5 Week 6 Week 7 Week 8 Week 9
Squats 3 x 8-10 315lbs
Leg Extensions 3 x 8-10 120lbs
Seated Leg Curls 3 x 8-10 120lbs
Seated Calve Raises 3 x 12-15 100lbs
Standing Calve Machine 3 x 10-12 120lbs

Chest and Bis
Benchpress 3 x 8-10 215
Incline Barbell Press 3 x 8-10 175
Decline Dumbell Press 3 x 8-10 60
Barbell Curls 2 x 8-10 80
Hammer Curls 2 x 8-10 30
Cable Reverse Curls 2 x 8-10 90

Back, Rear Delts, and Abs
Deadlift 3 x 8-10 315
Dumbell Shrugs 3 x 8-10 80
Wide-Grip Pulldowns 3 x 8-10 120
T-Bar Rows 2 x 8-10 120
1-Arm Low Cable Rows 2 x 8-10 100
Rear Delt Machine 3 x 8-10 60

Deltoids, Tris, and Flexors
Arnold Presses 3 x 10-12 30
Dumbell Lat Raises 3 x 10-12 80
Close-Grip Benchpress 3 x 8-10 185
Lying Barbell Extensions 2 x 8-10 80
Tricep Pushdowns 2 x 8-10 120
B-t-B Bar Wrist Curls 2 x 10-12 100
These are my current weights for each lift as of last week. I am 5'6" 190lbs I am trying to get down to 165-170lbs.

For ab excerices do 50 crunches alternating right to left, left to right(if this needs more explanation than ask), then 30 hip raises(lay down on a becnh with your hands grasping the bench slightly behind your head, raise your legs while keeping them together straight up in the air and push up with your hips lifiting them off the bench), after that do 50 leg raises(again ask if this needs more explanation). Do the ab workout on leg days.

On chest and back days I ride for an hour on the bike after lifting, if you use the bike don't go easy, make it hard or else it won't do anything. You can also run the treadmill, etc. I also ride the bike for an hour on friday. I lift Monday-Thursday and also ride friday. Each workout should take approximatley 1.5 hours if you do it right, not counting cardio. That is 6 hours lifting plus 3 hours of cardio. Everyone should be able to make that time for themselves during the week to stay in shape.

Also before I forget, do 2-3 warm up sets at the beginning of each day before your first core lift. Like if I am benching let's say 225 I would start out with 135, then bump it up to 185, then to 225 to start my sets.

Stay motivated, and push yourself. Lifting is a one man game, only you know how much you put into and that is how much you will get out of it. I love lifting.

cut out the junk, eat freash cooked food low carbs, and start of slow with the work out,and dont be doing any heavy weights that builds bulk you want to do loads of light weights and hundreds of sit ups (crunches) and swimming then when you lost some weight start runing but not before you lose weight otherwise you will damage your knees :)

Every time you get tempted by fat foods, stop, take a deep breath and look at the big pictures. Would you rather be thinner, sexier a few months from then or have a donut now?

I would also advise you to stop smoking herb. Munchies can be a killer.

I heard it on TV quite some time ago on a beer show. Who knows if what is true, but if you think about it, beer is loaded with, yeast, hops, barley, water and such, so it makes sense why a beer a day would be good for you. Take the alcohol out and it's even better, but I mean come on, what would be the point of beer, without the alcohol? Fuck that man. I never drank no non-alcoholic beer. :p

Eat natural foods. No preservatives, sugars, salty foods, oily foods. Try to eat 4-6 smaller meals a day to keep your metabolism going throughout the day, don't eat before you go to bed, eat fish or chicken instead of beef most of the time. If you follow a healthy diet throughout the week, one meal a week you can have whatever you want. Frank Sepe's The Truth is a great book, along with any Arnold book.

My advice is to work out and do cardio along with a healthy diet and you should lose weight, tone up, get stronger, and build muscle. By healthy diet I don't mean you have to go vegan or anything. Just cut out the manufactured foods, try to go to Whole Foods even though they are expensive as fuck. Eat lots of protein, and carbs(good carbs not empty carbs).

The hardest part is the first month after that it is all downhill. Plus smoking weed after a hard workout is probably in the top 10 best feelings a man can have.

My routine got fucked transferring from excel lemme know if anyting confuses you.

i dont know as ive never needed to loose weight but y wouldnt just not eating work?

if you starve yourself, you trick your body into losing fat, but when your body catches up, the fat cells will automatically close because you need fat for energy and warmth, since the fat cells will close and since your not eating, the body has no way of getting nutrients, so then i goes to the next best thing, it starts eating away at your muscles. thats why people who are anorexic have no muscles, because their body ate away at them for energy, thats why starving yourself doesnt work, you may think your losing weight, but you still have all that fat, its the muscles thats gone

Exactly. Smart girl. :)

I don't need to add anything more. It's clear as day why someone shouldn't starve themselves. Sure, you'll be thin, but a gross, skin sagging thin. Like Nicole Richie, bleh! She looked better with meat on her bones. Something to grab a hold when, well, that's a different thread. :p

Thanks for the support everyone. Today has been OK. For breakfast I had an egg, ham, and wheat tortilla burrito, for lunch at around 2 I had a sandwich with portugese roll, mustard, ham, cheese, and lettuce. Then tonight for dinner I am having turkey, stuffing, and veggies. I choked though, cuz I saw ice cream and it looked so good. Tommorow I am officially starting.

Eggs are high in cholesterol. Ham is fatty, and so is the cheese. :)

Keep that in mind. Those are things you should be avoiding.

Losing weight is like quitting smoking. Once you see that sweet ass desert in front of you, you can't cave. Avoid it using willpower.

So don't be discouraged if it takes you a few times.

Good luck. :)

Just do what you can do. Start simple.

Drink water, and juices, and if you order a burger, don't have fries and coke with it. Skip the ketchup, sauces and stuff like that. Skip deserts, do you really need it? Minor reductions like that guarantee success. If you give up on everything you like, you will fail. Reward yourself once in a while after you accomplish your goals. Rather than focusing more on what you eat, focus more on exercise.

Set your goals reasonably. Don't say "my goal is to lose 15 pounds." This is farsighted. Make more like "I'm going to jog for 30 minutes," or "I'm going to do 3 sets of squats, 100 pounds today." You are likely to succeed this way.

In terms of exercise, strength training (ex. lifting weights) is crucial to weight loss. The more muscle mass you have, the more calories it takes to maintain and you'll reach a point when fat loses itself. Get a membership to a gym, and there's group classes that can teach you how to workout properly. Form is more important than how much weight you lift.

For the other equation, cardio. What you want to try to do is sprint in intervals. This helps builds endurance, and engage fat loss. Start reasonably, if you been out of shape for so long, start with 15 minutes. Build up when you feel use to it. Get an mp3 player. Listen to some tunes while you do it. Cardio is boring as hell, at least with music it makes things interesting and pumped up. Same with lifting weights.

Find things you enjoy doing. If you like rock climbing, or hiking, that counts! Keep active in ways you enjoy. Not everyone is meant to be indoors lifting weights. There are plenty of non-traditional weight training regiments.

The last piece of advice I can give you is to have patience. It takes time. It takes will. Find your groove and once you hit it, you won't stop. Exercise can be fun and it makes you feel good.

Good luck FatKid. This should be your first stop for whatever info you need:

Hey, guys. No offense to any of you guys who responded to Lil Josh's post, which has now been taken down, but I also took down three or four posts in which several of you requoted his idea. That was irresponsible and silly on his part, even if he was kidding, and with eating disorders at an all-time high, I think it'd have been irresponsible for us to leave that visible. Just wanted to let you know what happened up above. If you ever see outlandishly bad ideas in threads like that, try to avoid requoting them in the event that they have to be taken down. Thanks, by the way, for the chorus of common nutrition sense in response to such stupid ideas!

That's a good idea.

Avoid the scale too. It will become a drug to you. :p Seriously. You'll be checking everyday and start getting frustrated. Diet good for 2 soilid weeks, then weigh yourself. You'll be happy with what you see and that will encourage you. Checking everydau hoping for results will frustrate and discourage you.

Another thing Friendowl said was don't eat after 7pm. That is a great way to losing extra weight. You eat a huge meal or snack an hour before bed, your body doesn't burn it off, and you end up taking all of it in.

I am going to give you a little coaching boost here:

For breakfast I had an egg, ham, and wheat tortilla burrito,.
Egg=good
Ditch the ham
Add some salsa or something to give yourself some veggies
Wheat is good... WHOLE wheat though. I think Mission makes a low-carb whole wheat tort that's really good.

Don't forget a midmorning snack!! Never let yourself get HUNGRY. Then you will make dumb food choices. If you like V8 juice, those little shooter cans are a great portable snack. Or fruit leathers, or a handful of pistachios...

for lunch at around 2 I had a sandwich with portugese roll, mustard, ham, cheese, and lettuce. .
Okay change the roll to multigrain bread.
Good that you have no mayo on there, it's a killer.
Switch that ham to turkey
Lose the cheese if you want to be strict
And again, add some sort of vegetable.

Afternoon snack time!!! That cheese that would have been on your lunch sandwich is good to have now. String cheese comes in really low fat versions and can go in your pocket. Same with those little single-serving waxed cheese that come in the little mesh bag.

Then tonight for dinner I am having turkey, stuffing, and veggies.
.
Go easy on that stuffing there big guy!!!
You can trick yourself by making all sorts of neat stuff out of cauliflower, which is boring and tastes like nothing, so you can mash it like potatoes, or season it like stuffing, or whatever you can imagine.
Turkey is yummy but steer clear of the dark meat and if you want gravy, limit yourself to just a splash.

Don't forget to drink your water!!!

:D

I would put more emphysis (not sure abt that word, lol) on exercise and water.

Exercising is (obviously) one of the most important things when you want to loose weight. But seriously, you gotta find something you really like. If you tell yourself ''ok, im gonna run 30 minutes each day'' but you fucking hate it and don't wanna do it, it will suck all the way. And when you get more active I can tell you that you feel wayy better and dont even feel the need for food.

Juices (even real juices) have a shitload of sugar in them. Drink only water, it makes a big ass difference. Plus, theres nothing better than water. Once you get the habit, you most likely prefer that to juice and soda. Or, if you wish, theres some good flavored water out there with no calories (or like 5 lol),they're awesome imo.

Hope it helps! good luck!

2.) Drink the occasional glass of milk and orange juice.
3.) Eat things with a decent amount of protein to keep you full and pumped for your workouts.
4.) Stay away from frozen foods and any other processed foods.
5.) Eat more lean chicken and fish. Have some brown rice and vegetables on the side.

Thanks for all the help guys. I just have to focus on getting rid of all the bad stuff in my house, and bring in the good stuff. I'm probably going to exercise after I get some WoW time in. Also, what would be a good dip or something to go with celery? I can't stand eating it plain.

Also, I used to be pretty fit back when I was around 10 or 11. Years before that, I was by far the heftiest kid in my class. From around ages 11-now I gained all the weight back by not keeping myself busy. I regret it alot now. Btw, I'm 14, almost 6'0" and last time I weighed myself I was 230. I'm prolly 240 or 245 now. My goal is 180 for now.

Ugh plain celery is booo-ring
Whatever your fave salad dressing, chances are there's a low-fat or fat free version.
My ex BF was 260 when he was a junior in high school... after graduation he grew 4 more inches and when I met him he was 6'4 and 215... he says he lost all the weight in one summer when he just got sick of being pudgy and started jogging.
I had another good idea!
Why don't you find a summer job that keeps you active?
For example:
Landscaping- landscapers hire in Feb/March
Farm labor- hey, you can get kicked out of my county if you graduate high school without having spent at least one summer picking fucking cucumbers! I've done it, so has everyone I know, girlies included!!!
I'm sure you can think of some job that keeps you moving all summer.
Oh! Work for a moving company schlepping other peoples crap?

Yep, celery is boring without some dip. I made mine from plain yogurt. I would add any number of herbs and flavorings- parmasian cheese, blue cheese, (if you let these sit overnight, the flavor intensifies, so you don't need much) chives, Italian seasoning, parsley, salsa, all kinds of stuff. Add a bit of low fat milk, and it's a salad dressing.

Eat more fruits and vegies (especially raw), than grain and meat. When you eat grains, make sure they are whole grains- and remember "whole wheat bread" is usually not 100% whole wheat (it's cut with white flour) unless it says 100% whole wheat! Avoid white foods and cut way back on oils, fats and salt. Read labels- as a general rule, if it isn't a normal English word (milk, eggs, oil, flour, etc) don't eat it. An exception are the "B" vitamins- thiamine, folic acid, etc. And get some vitamins, dieters often don't get enough nutrition. Don't try to lose the weight TOO fast- rapid weight loss is often followed by weight gains.

I used to weigh 235+ (when I quit weighing myself) and I now am down to 174 as of this morning. I still have about 40 pounds to go, but I am getting there! I feel a lot better! My diabetes and blood pressure (both weight related problems) are now under control. Good luck to you- Granny :stoned:

tape a yard stick to your head and hang a twinkie on it...

:p Ha ha! "I'm turning you into poo"

A job where you get a good workout is a good idea too. Not only do you get great exercise, you'll get paid for it too.

Labour jobs I think are the biggest turnover jobs out there, so they're always around. I worked TONS of labour jobs in my time that got me in wicked shape.

Like I have previously mentioned, I ate only 3 meals a day, with healthy snacking inbewteen (apples, oranges, pineapple, veggies, etc). I took up Kickboxing that was twice a week, for 3 hrs. My job, I worked F/T, 40hrs a week, where I worked as yard personel in a rock yard. Lifting a few hundred stones that weighed anywhere between 15lbs-110lbs really gets you in good shape. I also biked to and from work daily, about 6km to and from work.

I lost 40lbs in a matter of a few months.

Exercise is key, and a healthy diet is key. Do those, and you'll be on a healthy road to thiness.

It sounds like your not going to do this, but in case you get tempted don't do a carb diet. Those diets can be dangerous seeing as how you use carbohydrates to help you live. Ussually the major problem is people continue on that diet long after they have lost the weight they wanted too, in turn causing it become a dangerous diet.

Thats also a good idea, most of the year I have a gut, but during the summer I have a job at a camp that ussually requires me to hike at least more than 5 miles a day(total, never realy measured it all just ruff guess from my knowledge of the camp) and a weekly 10 mile hike seperatly. Needless to say I lose alot of wait during the summer ^.^

And get some vitamins, dieters often don't get enough nutrition. altho potatoes have potassium and fiber,,,they are very high in carbs... the whites to avoid are sugar flour like bread,,,whole grain breads are way better than white bread for you but it's still flour and carbs...

mi recom. a attitude of losing fat, instead of losing weight.

hit the gym with an emph. on building thigh muscles... It will mega boost your metabolism. eat lots of small meals throughout the day . a little fat a little protein and a little extra carbs, (mainly from fruit and vegtables)

try it for a month... you will feel good I promise.....

That's just like me! I despise potato soup. They make it at one of the deli's downstairs, made with bacon, and it is so salty and disgusting. Nasty stuff.

I love potatoes in every form. Skin, no skin, whatever. Just give me a potatoe and a pot of water, and I'll be good, oh, and some salt.

weight is such a big issue for so many people, myself included....

for one, i hope you realize not everyone is skinny, nor can they be...dont be hard on yourself..

for two, and most important...you have to see the decision to loose weight as a lifestyle change, as that is what it is..

the most helpful things to remember, so the experts say, is the following..

no soda..none..not even diet...avoid white bread and pasta, try whole grain or spinach pastas for example..no fried foods, and no trans fats..never eat within 2 hours before going to bed..3 meals and 2 snacks a day..the first month is key..you should take that month and prepare your mindset for loosing weight as it really is "all in your head"...the best exercise is walking...30 min a day helps more than anything...if you choose the weight work and strength training, remember that muscle weighs more and it may show you as gaining weight when you are actually gaining muscle mass......and finally, be realistic about your weight loss goals....

good luck and remember, you are you....once you learn that and love yourself how you are, only then will you be able to loose any weight and keep it off..

I didn't read all the replies, but from the ones I did read I got the impression they were giving bad advice. I don't think you should never eat a slice of cake and never drink a beer. I think you should change your attitude about food. Eat for nourishment, not for pleasure or for fun. Eat meals. Don't munch on food all day. Also, lift weights so you don't lose all the muscle you have.

This past week I've been doing better and better every day. I started off with the normal foods, sammich with white bread and mayo, then the next day i cut off the mayo but had a piece of pie and icecream, then the next day i had veggie sausage for lunch but had a piece of candy after dinner. Today though, I had a sausage burrito with wheat tortilla, a little bit of hot chocolate, fake sausage on wheat, and celery. I think If I could keep something up like today's food with a little variation and exerrcise, I think I'll be in the clear. My definite goal is to get down to 180, but then gain muscle weight to 200.

Surreys Princess, by 2 snacks a day do you mean like cheese or something, or can I have all the fruits and vegetables I want?

Hey FatKid, just listen to me for a sec. It does not matter how much you weigh or what you look like. If people around you are judging you by your appearance are those the people you want to hang with? Weight is just a number, it does not determine who you are. Just be happy with who you are and maybe pick up a sport or two for fun and fitness. Don't let the world shit on you.

Today though, I had a sausage burrito with wheat tortilla, a little bit of hot chocolate, fake sausage on wheat, and celery. ?lay off the sausage! It's all the fatty parts of the meat... fake sausage (soy) is good though. Hot chocolate... on one hand, refined sugars= bad, on the ohter hand, calcium is good and chocolate actually increases seratonin production so just go easy on the stuff

Surreys Princess, by 2 snacks a day do you mean like cheese or something, or can I have all the fruits and vegetables I want? Back in my first post I said look into things like low fat string cheese for snacking... or all the veggies you want... or some nuts that have lots of vitamins. No carb = all the meat, cheese, fish, eggs, most veg's...

No- Pasta,breads,cake and pies...

hi....

2 snacks meaning fruits and vegetables..cheese is good in moderation, if it is a light kind..apple and cheese, apple and peanut butter, etc..you know you are dieting right when you are not hungry...even slim fast bars and such are pretty good nowadays...

it is hard to make good food choices as we have gotten heavy and our body is programmed to want certain things..coming off food is like coming off hard drugs..the experts say moderaion is crap, but i think it is individual..for me, moderation worked very well..they key is starving your fat cells.....for instance, at night when you want to eat, that is just your fat cells asking for food..you have to reprogram them to not need to eat..that is why you shouldnt eat 2 hours before bed...

education is key and if you educate yourself about your food choices then you can be better at changing them for the long term...remember that it takes about a month to be able to start to make changes in your habits...dont get discouraged...

keep your chin up...you are gonna be okay...

This hasn't even been mentioned before, but I'll say it anyway.

Yes, 'eating right' is important, but being a younger person (under 25), I understand it is not always easy to 'eat right'. You are always gone somewhere, can't cook worth a shit, don't have the time, sometimes eat with friends unexpectedly (you wanna grab some dinner?).

Everyone can agree that eating many small meals throughout the day is ideal, but its not very practical. Nowadays, I eat about once or twice a day. Never more than twice.

Even if you end up breaking your routine eating schedule, just try not to eat so much. If you do end up eating something 'suspect', don't fret, just remember that when you go to the gym. Punish yourself for eating. After a while, you will find that you can actually eat whatever you want. Never eat until you are 'full' unless it is your only meal of the day.

Also, go down to GNC and get yourself some hydroxycut. Chain drink water. I have pissed 20 times in a day before.

Hey here's my recipe for the day!!!

Take 1 cup of nonfat yoghurt.. I like plain but I have no sweet tooth
Put it in a blender
Add 2 tablespoons of frozen orange juice concentrate plus a handful of frozen berries, whatever your favorite ones are; I like raspberries.
Blend... enjoy... mmmm!!!!!!
This smoothie is very filling and has the following health benefits:
Yoghurt... tons of calcium and protein... makes you feel satisfied for longer because of the protein!
Orange juice... we all know how good it is for you! Vitamins!!! Fiber!!! wOOt!
Berries... did you know that fruits that grow at higher latitudes, such as blueberries, have a MUCH MUCH MUCH higher ratio of vitamins and antioxidants to sugar than tropical fruits such as pineapples and bananas? And blueberries are one of the best sources of vitamin C that exists! (one of the others being paprika, but that would be gross in a smoothie, dontcha think?)

Anyway I'm heading over to HEALTH and starting a thread where people trying to get in shape can post and support each other.

After all, spring is around the corner and a chick has to look GOOD (and fit into the seat in her kayak, lol!!!!)

As a person whose lost a few pounds over the week from over eating..
I suggest you start out with power walking on a treadmill and set yourself a goal.
Then gradually move up to jogging for 10 minutes. Then maybe next time 20 minutes and so on. You'll build stamina and you'll be cutting down on the body fat. When you're comfortable with that start using weights and toning yourself. Before you know it, you'll be more comfortable with the body you're in and I'll bet you'll feel very accomplished.

calorie count, and portion control. when you're sitting down to a meal, drink a lot of water w/ your food, to help fill your stomach up a little more w/o calories. also keep a log of how many calories you're eating. try to eat only about 1200-1700 a day. i know it sounds hard, but it's really not. the more portion control the better though, that way your stomach shrinks back to the way it was before it was stretched.

I hate running... unless being shot at. Try to get involved in something that is physical that YOU like to do. I mean who is going to run on a treadmill on a daily basis when they don't enjoy it.

I ski, play racquetball (SP?), hockey, etc. Find what you like to do. DDR or the Wii even will make you loose wieght. Be careful I saw a fatkid who brok and ankle playing DDR lol.

I'm in the same boat as you. I lost 10lbs over the summer doing construction then came back to school and in the past 6mo have gained 20. So I'm doing like just salad and entree for all meals.

You're gonna feel hungry for a while until your stomach shrinks (yes I said shrinks)

Your stomac will naturally shrink durring dieting, kind of like natures weight loss surgery. Try just a really light snack. And drink lots of water. You would be suprised how much it fills you up. And switching to diet pop (aside from possibly being a carcinagin) will cause a lot of ppl to loose weight.

If you're only 14 you may still be developing and growing out of baby fat too.

Don't make your lifestyle changes to drastic as you won't stick with it. Make it gradual and have a cheesburger as a reward once in a while.

Good luck I'm suffering through a diet now too.

Oh btw. Weightloss is a slow arguous process. Like 2lbs a week is considered safe rate (not sure on that #)

Good Luck

awww, Fat Kid, you really can do it. I know how hard it is, but don't give up. Just keep on trying. Find different plans and see what you can live with. Personally I've had the most success with South Beach- you can eat a lot of food. No calorie counting. It's easy enough to integrate into your life- to really change your way of eating and not just go on a diet that when you lose the weight you quit and gain it all back. that sucks worse than just bein fat.

And don't beat yourself up over it, there are way worse things than being fat, and I bet you are young and will grow out of a lot of it if you can just get yourself to eat healthy so that it becomes habit.

Good Luck!!

if you're 14 you can lose weight much easier than someone who is done growing. eliminate all soft drinks, alcohol (if you even drink that is), fast food, and sugary stuff. eat a lot of meat, seafood, and vegetables. that's not saying don't treat yourself to a fatty burger here and there, though. some times you can't always eat a clean meal. also make water the only thing you drink. no tea, milk, or juice. try to drink at least 4 tall glasses of water a day.

if you're going to exercise try to get it done in the morning. this will kick-start your metabolism for the day and burn more fat. also try to eat 4-6 small meals a day. this will increase your metabolism because it will always be burning something off. if you're going to lift weights and do cardio, lift weights prior to your cardio. this way your heart rate will already be up and in 'fat-burn' mode. also don't lift weights every day...do it every other day at the least, so your muscles have time to grow back.

sleep is also important. get at least 6-8 hours a night.

good luck man.

theres many methods to lose weight, best ive found was to practice shaolin mabu stance, learn how to breath using your stomach instead of your chest, this will make you one energetic motherfucker, then you just take it from there with the cardi vascular exorcizes, stay away from all the goodies and buy a bunch of vegetables and fruits, bannanas are great for energy as well as eggs, u can eat pasta here and there for a treat which is great for energy, havea cookie here and there, but try this lol, every time u eat, YOUR NOT ALLOWED TO EAT UNLESS YOU EAT DURING MABU STANCE, YES DURING MABU STANCE, IT WIL B A CHALLANGE BUT THIS WILL LIMIT THE FOOD YOU EAT AS WELL, you can take a break inbetween because your legs and back might feel like they are on fire, but this will give you soooooooo much energy thru your day and it will line up your bak well giving you a perfect posture, tahts how i do it mon, try eating brocolli with cheese, mmmmmmmm so fucking good, later, good luck

I have never been fat, chubby, or big boned, but I have been active, until recently. Last summer I reached a record 185 lbs compared to my 140-150ish normal range. I try to keep it around 150 but sometimes I dip down, so then I will make myself a banana milkshake everyday until I hit 150.

I lost 40 pounds by first cutting out all the sugar in my diet. I then stopped eating late night snacks. After I went for about 2 weeks doing that, I cut out drinking juices and milk all the time. I now drink carrot juice in shots in the morning and take a good multi-vitamin. I eat mostly fruits and vegetables throughout the day with a sandwhich for lunch (no mayo, just mustard. It is hard to ween off of that yummy spread). Then I eat meat at dinner and work out for 20 mins or so 3x a week after.

Just stay away from sugars, carbs, and fats :)

Good luck and I'm hoping for the best!

It does not matter when you eat food. If this had an effect, it is because you consumed less food overall.

Energy consumed < Energy used by body

Hunger is not controlled only by need for food. Many factors control hunger, it's quite interesting. Habit is actually the biggest determiner of hunger.

Dude, come live with me. We eat the good stuff (oatmeal, ramen, sphegetti, etc). Somehow, we keep ourselves from starving. (we spend about $15-20 a week on food between 2-3 people)

I hear green tea helps lose weight. Just watch what you eat and how often you do. Act like you don't have money ;).

The best way to lose weight in my opinion is just by using your common sense where food and fitness is concerned. You can eat anything you like so long as you keep to a balanced diet and eat smaller portions. If you have been doing good and are sticking to your regimen you can treat yourself to some fast food, but be willing to up your exercise for the week.

You have to exercise. I read in one of your posts that you MIGHT exercise AFTER you played WoW. You need to turn that around. Play the game as a small personal reward AFTER you've finished working out. Avoid fad diets. They come and go for a reason. They don't really work in the long run.

Also avoid "miracle diet pills". When I was fifteen my mother had my doctor prescribe me phen phen so I would lose weight. I did lose weight. I lost 80 lbs in three months. I also ended up with a serious heart condition. Prescription drugs should be the very last weight loss solution considered. All you really need is common sense and a strong personal commitment to become a more healthy individual. Until you make a real commitment, you won't succeed.

Try drinking a glass of water before each meal.
You'll get full faster and wont be able to eat as much.
And stay away from junk food, instead eat fruits.
