I was recently offered a job. I have completed two phone interviews and two in-person interviews, they offered me the job after the second in-person interview on a contingency that the background check came back OK, no mention of pre-emp screen. During the process, a background check was mentoned several times, but nothing about a pre emp. drug screen. I have filled out an official application and consent for a background check, nothing on either mentioned anything about a drug screen.

I would like to assume that If they required a durg screen, I would have to sign a consent the same time as I signed the background consent. I made it a point to check out the break area, no "drug free workplace" signs or anything. I am supposed to get the official packet in the mail in a couple of days, I know that will tell me what I need to klnow.

I became a little concerned because I noticed a generic "Equal Opportunity Employer/drug free workplace" disclaimer on the bottom of one of their job postings on one of the smaller job finder sites, but on only one posting out of about 10 other postings for other jobs in the company on other sites

I would appreciate any input on experiences with the hiring process, in particular at what point in the process you were informed of the pre employment screening.

Thanks for the input. I have checked in with this site over the years, this is the first time I had a question that had not already been answered in an old post

It really depends on the Job. Most employers require a drug test only if it does not interfere with aquiring the labor. For example...General Labor work usually does not require one because most of the people applying for those jobs do some sort of illegal drugs. Whereas, more white collar positions are filled with those who do not. The people hiring in the white collar positions can afford to loose a couple of applicants who do drugs, because the majority does not.

Thanks for the prompt reply

I think I'm OK since the offer has been made already and the background check was the only thing mentioned.

Anyone input or personal experiences concerning the point in the hiring process when someone is informed about pre employment sctreens would be appreciated.

Thanks
