Ever cried at a doctor's appointment? Get that choked up feeling, and then feel like a loser when you DO cry?
Yeah, it happened to me today- It's the 5th doctor in like 3 months, and I'm getting fed up with a lack of a diagnosis (and they probably think I have Munchausen's for fuck's sake)
And even worse, I asked for a refill on my Tylenol with Codeine, which I use maybe once every month? So now she probably thinks I'm a crazy drug addict.
AND I CAN'T UNDERSTAND HER ACCENT.

Sometimes it takes awhile to get a clear cut diagnosis. So, hang in there. As far as the medicine, don't make yourself feel guilty for asking for it.
It is funny, everybody thinks that the doctor thinks they are faking it. Even my Grandma, at 84, goes to the doctor and tells the doctor how she feels and somehow she gets the impression that he thinks she is faking it.
Don't let your story about the way you think things are, get in the way of the truth.

Hang in there PB!!! Don't worry about the medicine,,,I swear doctors worry more about law suits than their patients... Things can get frustrating and a good cry help relieve stress,,,I've cried in similar situations...

I have fibromyalgia (chronic pain) and polycystic ovarian syndrome (cysts on my ovaries) but recently, despite a break from pot, my memory is gone, and concentration is horrible.
I went from a 3.8 college student taking hard science courses to failing all of my simple english courses... I smoked when I was getting good grades, but smoking isn't making a difference in my memory now.

I hate taking pain killers (as much fun as they can be) because the potential for addiction.
I actually just called LoveLine (if you've heard of it) asking which would be better long-term for chronic pain- pot or Rx opiates...
Guess what Stryker AND Dr. Drew said?
Pot.

Billionfold- even when your mom is not taking her meds that make her forget her words, and when not on pain meds or anything, does she get confused and forget things a lot?

I'm thinking of trying hypnosis to help with the pain; the cannabis does help, but
1. I can't afford to smoke it every day
2. I don't want to smoke it every day, makes it less meaningful
3. Tolerance
4. It should be used to enhance my life, not block physical feelings, no matter how painful
5. I don't want to be high all of the time

Tylenol #4 helps with the pain, but it more or less takes the edge off. I can stand being in pain most of the time; I've learned to ignore it (for better or for worse), and cannabis takes the pain away completely without making me feel as disoriented and craving for more. I can control myself around the low-dose opiates pretty well, and I have quit cannabis for up to 6 months before with ease.
I've tried a mild form of hypnosis before for sleep, and it seemed to help a great deal. I can't find anyone within a 50 mile radius who practices it though. And it would feel weird asking my PCP about it... Although I do want a psych referral for other reasons, maybe it could help with that?

Mine was an onset from a botched spinal tap from Johns Hopkins, I have permanent nerve damage up my spine.
But thanks for listening, I'm on MSN now if you wanna chat, I'm bored.

this is probably going to sound rougher then what i mean it as.. but get used to it... doctors these days for the most part don't give 2 shits about their patients... just do what it takes to get their money and get you out of their face... i went to the emergency room thinking i was having a heart attack or something, i explain to them what's going on, then they think it's serious enough to check me out thoroughly but stick me in a room on a bed for an hour with someone coming to check on me once, maybe twice the whole time.. poking ass around... ahh well fuck 'em...
then my doctor (psychiatrist) keeps telling me to stay on this shitty ass med that i know isn't working, and isn't going to work... i've spent basicly my whole life on medications, and trying to find ones that work and shit... I KNOW when something isn't working and i know when it's not going to work... but still they tell me to stay on this bullshit... i haven't even been taking it... i'm definately not going to continue to put some shitty pill in my body unless i'm getting high off it or it's working...
just fuck doctors all together.... they better be glad i don't pay them either (gold card, i guess y ou could say it's like medicaid/medicare, you don't pay for anything really) or i'd raise all kinds of fucking hell with them for their lack of concern and shit... AND FOR CHRIST SAKES SEND ALL THE NON-ENGLISH SPEAKING DOCTORS BACK TO WHEREVER THEY CAME FROM!! if i can't understand a damn word you're saying, WTF GOOD ARE YOU TO ME?!...
i guess you can probably tell this is a sensitive issue for me... i'm sick of the way doctors treat people these days, i remember when they used to care, and do what's needed for the patient...
shit if only i went to college to become a doctor, i'd be waiting for the second that quack came in with a broken bone....
"well there's nothing to worry about, it only has a minor fracture, just put some ice on it and it'll be ok"
wtf are you talking about??? it's broken *shows arm hanging down abnormally*
"oh well, yeah it kinda sucks having a doctor that doesn't give a shit doesn't? NOW GET THE FUCK OUTTA MY HOSPITAL!"

You're not being rude, or mean about it, Slipknot... It IS the truth. The problem with ERs and hospitals is that they are so crowded by pain medication addicts, old people with colds, and drunks that quality care has shifted to "I don't care"
I know most doctors are assholes, and it's really frustrating going through 3 PCPs before you find the right one... In a year.
That's why this country needs free healthcare. It CAN be done, and it should be done.
