Hey all, first time poster here. I've been soaking up some really good knowledge to help me on my first grow. I'm working with a pretty small closet space approximately 2'x4'x5'high. I'm wondering if I can exhaust this space, and keep it cool with one fan for exhaust and a passive intake with an oscillating fan running constantly. I'd like to go with 250-400w hid hps. I saw that home depot has some 4' inline fans rated at 40-80 cfm. Would something like this be sufficient? How often does it need to cycle fresh air in? What do you guys suggest?:D :D :D Thanks for all the great info here on the forum.

u can do anything provided you have the space or compatibilty. you want an intake and exhaust a 400wtt will be enough, but in the space you will need it to be constantly recirculating air, it will get hot. i would get a nice big can fan for exhaust 400+cfmand the intake can be a simple small 100cfm fan from homedepot run u about 24 bucks, if you get a vented reflector hood it will drop temps even more

I've lined the walls and floor, and lightproofed. I've also installed a locking knob. I'll be putting in a 12'x12' passive intake (darkroom vent) down low on the door. Also, I was thinking of pulling air through a charcoal filter, pushing it through the light, and then out of the closet through a vent at the top of the door. I won't be using co2 so I'll probably just run the fan 24/7 for now. Is 600w hps in a cool tube or nice a/c hood with a 400+ cfm fan going to be too hot, or should I just stick with 400 or 430w? Does anyone have any comments or questions, or see any potential problems? I also need to know what joule rating is good for my surge protector for this type of setup. Thanks again for all the info.:stoned:

Go with a home theature surge protector. They are designed to have a tv, stero, dvd player, etc etc running off them at the same time. Some steros pump ALOT of juice. Over kill is always better than under kill. Expect to drop upwards of 40-50 on a good good one. like 1500+ joule rated. You get what you pay for.

Wheres electronics going to be stored? If down w/ the plants, hydro or soil? If up top are you drilling holes to run wires? Are you running power into an outlet INSIDE the closet?

Very nice so far though. :)

Thanks for the reply, and nice work with your cabinet. Those are some incredible looking buds. I'll probably drill holes and keep all the electronics up top. As for the power supply, I'm just going to run an extension cord along the baseboard under the door, and up the casing into the top compartment. This room is very private, so I'm counting on no one asking about the vents , cords, etc. I'm still sort of undecided on soil or hydro. I've only grown outdoors before, but I'm pretty confident that I could make a hydro setup that would work. I'm only wanting to grow two plants at first. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Magnum
