Just got my humidity therm. hooked up, it reads 66 but the problem is it's not right where the canopy of the plants are. I see no signs of fungus at all, but am considering buying a dehumidifer as a precautionary measure. Question is... if my humidity is at 66 a few hours into their "day" what does it get up to at night? Should I be concerned? I also only have one occilating fan going right now, perhaps I should buy another. Some people reccomend using a heater during the night cycle, others reccomend a dehumidifier to prevent molding... what do you guys think? Also wanted to add I did veg for a little longer than I should have the plants are crowding one another a bit more than I had anticipated....any advice is appreciated.

66 is pretty high for humidty, a dehumidifier would be a purches well spent

It would be a great investment! The heater is just gonna warm the air. With the heater running and humidity high. You are only creating condensation on the walls and ceiling. You need to have some type of exhaust as well.Put a theromstat on small fan.Set it at about 68 or 70.That will help draw some of the moisture out of the room and decrease the chances of fungus and the dreaded black mold! Hope all goes well!

66 is kind of okay for veg but on the high side. I'm vegging in the high 20s -low 30s. Low humidity in early stages is important to prevent damping-off.
For flower it's super important to get your humidity down to 50% or less.

20-30 % the last two weeks...just to be safe
That's 'cause the Pontiff has big buds
Fluffy sativas can take a little higher humidity if you give them some breeze

i will do something that is a no-no...if it drops to low.. i will spray some ph'd h2o on the plants EVEN during flower...but the pontiff is blessed and knows how to deal with fungi

Shit, sounds like I need a dehumidifier ASAP. I am in flowering right now, and my humidity is down to 62. I will buy a dehumidifier today, and set it so that it goes on if the humidity goes over 50, just to be safe. How much should I plan to spend to have it be effective for the whole room?

Just a plain boring dehumidifier that you can find at any hardware store is fine, I think I dropped $150 or so on mine, and it's a pretty nice one but it is for the cellar, not the flower room.. I'm blessed with DRY winter air ATM!

crispis dehumidifier was about 150-160 ,
w/o it you can see the moisture in the air . i keep mine set at 45% during flowering .

Went to the grow store to talk to them about the humidity issue and they told me the dehumifier won't even help much unless the vortex fan is off while the humidifier runs... you guys agree? I have a friend who said he disagrees, thinks it will def. help some. Thing is, I can't turn my vortex off during the day because these plants fucking reek!!
As of now, I don't have a closed circuit, just an open one... and cool air is coming in from a vent in the floor. What I was considering doing is stuffing that vent with something to prohibit full air flow, then the air will be drawn in under the door. This air would obviously be dryer... but the plants may not get quite as much fresh air because it would have to go under the door and also through the plastic I put up. What do you guys suggest?
I am considering just biting the bullet and spending the 180 on the dehumidifier, but if it isn't going to work well because the Vortex is pulling air through the room quicker than the dehumid. can work, then there's no point.
will post deminsions of the room later but its approx 9 by 11 with 8 foot ceilings...

So run the dehumidifier in the room that the air is being pulled from... ???

thats the thing, my cool air is currently being pulled from outside. i am thinking i need to have my intake coming from inside the house... i tried plugging the vent up with a sweat shirt in hopes that the humidity would drop (and air would be pulled from under the door) it only dropped two degrees... will my plants get enough fresh air in the room if i completely seal up the vent and it pulls from outside the room? i could then set up a d/h outside of the room to keep the humidity low... would this be a problem as long as my temps stay down? for now temps have been absolutely fine

Just bought the 50 pint d/h. Got it for 260 with a 3 year warrenty. It uses about 860 watts of energy. I also plugged up the hole in which cold air was coming in from outside, so now my fresh air is being brought it from underneath the doorway...
Now, outside the doorway is a hallway, a bathroom, and another bedroom. If I keep the bedroom door closed often (as well as the door that seperates the hallway from the house) it should work just fine.
I would prefer have the d/h in the actual room, but my Vortex is going to suck out air quicker than the d/h can work. What do you guys do to combat that? I was thinking maybe setting the fan to go off for like 15 minutes out of every hour and then the d/h turns on? I'm not really sure but I know having a d/h outside a locked door isnt the most stealth thing in the world.

I know alot of people here have issues with high humidity, but I have the opposite. The highest I can get my humidity up to is 30%, with work, 25% is stable with no etra bowls of water and misting. Is this ok? What is the optimum humidity range?

40-50% is optimal, so I am a bit concerned about my levels. With the lights on it goes down to about 61 but they are getting to like 68-69 with the lights off, definitely some cause for concern.
I know some people ahve to be using d/h in their rooms even with powerful fans, curious what the results are. If I can bring it down a good 10% I am going to go for it.

so I bought a d/h but it says to not use it if the temp is below 65 degrees because it can create ice on the coils...wel lmy room is well below 65 with the lights off sometimes... do i need to be using a heater *and* a d/h?

I have same exact problem, did you ever figure this out?
My grow is much smaller, only 1.5 x 2 feet and 6 feet vertical but same principle applies.
Would love to know how you got past the issue of the fan drawing all your dry air out.
Thanks.
