My plants are 6 weeks into flowering.
This problem has persisted throughout almost the entire flowering cycle.
I have posted threads with no solution found.:
Here is one, so you can check out the progression of this.
http://boards.cannabis.com/showthread.php?t=92382
I honestly think this is a N def. Right now. But, last week I thought it was from Nute burn. (there is very little pictures of Nute burn around,)
I gave them all a small shot of fish emulsion last night, as it has been progressing fast and hopefully this will stall it.
The soil pH is 6.3. And I use Advanced Nutrients G/M/B
I am very concerned about this and really need help as it very very close to the buds now. And Iâ??m so close to harvest I am very worried my buds will be ruined in the last strech.
Sorry for double posting this thread in Indoor and plantproblems, I hate it when people do it too. But this is of very serious concern for me so I hope every one understands.
This plant is champagne.
I am having trouble posting pics. I will try on another computer, or i'll post them on another website and post a link.

As far as I'm concerned, your plants are on the right track...took a lot of work to see them though...lol...anyhow, usually around the 4th week of flower, sometimes even earlier, the plants start to suck out nitrogen from the leaves to create the buds. My girl's on her 18th day of flower and her leaves are fading fast. Your plants look fine. Peace.

Sorry about the double post but I wanted to add to my last comment and I missed the edit margin. (MOD's...pls change the edit time...lol) Anyhow, notice how the only leaves yellowing are the ones with the big, beautiful buds? That's why those buds are so big and beautiful...the other buds are still small and when they catch up, their leaves will yellow too. Hope this helps! Peace!

It looks normal to me. Plants lose leaves throughout each stage and nothing to get excited about. The rest of the leaves are a nice healthy dark green and it's perfectly normal for plants to lose leaves as they mature...usually from the bottom up but leaves from all parts of the plant will yellow and drop off as they ripen. If those were mine, the last thing I'd be doing right now in the middle of flowering is add excessive fert's. That will only bring on a need for flushing towards the end...something else that should be avoided if possible.

I don't think I lost pretty much a single leaf until last week of flowering though...Can't see the point of starving them of nutes, you're going to starve and flush them last two weeks anyway...

Sounds good to me. Theyâ??ve only got 3 weeks or less left.
What worries me is that the yellowing is getting very close to the buds. I just added two pics that werenâ??t taken under the HPS so you can see the yellowing better.
Sorry I thought I posted them b4

Yeah man, 5 weeks into flowering yellowing is no problem, its normal. As long as the buds and bud leaves themselves are green and healthy, I wouldn't worry about it. Pull off the leaves as they yellow and die. They should come off without having to pull when they're ready, if they give resistance that means they still have nutes the plant is using.

ya i just leave them on till there crispy then take em off. if the plant can get anything from them, i let em. The only reason i remove them is to prevent bugs.
the picture faithless posted is a good example of what i'm worrying about. The yellowing is progressing to the small leafs around the buds.

^^ Haha I don't think he meant punching his/our plants, I think he literally meant punching babies. If anyone listens to the comedian Dan Cooke, you would know how funny punching babies sounds. Wow...that sounds terrible. lol. DISCLAIMER: NO BABIES GOT HURT IN THE MAKING OF THIS THREAD!!
Anyways, I am glad to hear that our plants are in the range of 'normal'. Hopefully they finish strong as well. Thank you all for your help so far, and if anyone has any other pointers to add please please feel free to do so.
When is sorta a good rule of thumb to stop feeding and start flushing? When the trichs are mostly cloudy? What do you all do?

Youre plants are fine! My plants did the exact same thing and lost almost all their fan leaves. i consider it as a sign that the leaves are actually being used to their fullest amount in producing buds. My plants turned out very good and i saw no defficeincy in bud bud potency or weight.
If you are 6 weeks in flowering i would stop feeding all together and only use water alone. this will increase the taste of your buds and break down cloraphyll (correct me if im wrong) to make it smother.

have you noticed that yellowing is strain specific? or you just get it some grows?

i have noticed it to a certain extent on other plants that werent grown as well observed and cared for as this grow. Ive heard it to be a bad sign to have no yellowing leaves towards the end of vegetation due to the fact that it shows that there is still alot of energy being put in vegetative growth as well as flowering. Naturally when plants get to their final stages in life, like in the harvest season of fall, the leaves turn yellow and wither away. Also due to the fact you should be using ver little nitrogen during flowering your leaves will turn yellow. as long as you dont see any signs of problem besides fan leaves turning yellow, i would just let it do its thing.

My plants ussually loose alot of leaves and yellow a good bit at that stage. But, yours is a bitt worse than I've seen. I would not do any more fish emulsion because this late in the game that is a little strong. The only thing that I would feed that late is Terracycle by OMRI-You can get it at Home Depot. It is a very mild organic fert made from worm castings, packaged in recycled coke bottles. My opinion would be to feed them now one does of that and then start flushing them in a week. But, even if you do nothing, you will still probably have healthy buds.

The big problem for me is how do I know when to flush. As we judge harvest by the tricomes. I pretty much need to predict when she'll finish. Do i just assume 8 weeks flowering?
This is all i know of the strain
Champagne
Species: 70% Indica – 30% Sativa
Flowering Time: 8 Weeks
Approx Yield: 450g p.s.m
Height: 125-150+ cm

i'd count on that 8 weeks being more like 9 or 10... i begin flushing when i see the first amber trich...

Just have to guess at it. Flowering times are never exactly what the seed farms say they are. Since it depends on lights, fert, and temps.
I would think when the buds are starting to get fat, but before any hairs start to turn. But, I'm no expert.. I just plant em, love em and make the most educated guesses I can as to what they need. Good luck

well there some hairs turned a long time ago on probably every bud of every plant. but it isn't progressing. Zandor said somewhere that the hairs respond to different things and are only loosely related to maturity. I gotta go get a 30X microscope

.
Hairs can start to brown weeks before the trichs do.
I'm harvesting my gals day by day, through a magnifier. Started 2 days ago, and I probably have another 3 days left to let each branch mature fully.
I'm noticing that it's not just the color of the trichs that is your only clue.
Generally, the mature buds are also the plumpest, ripest, darkest looking. I think of them as a fruit, like I'd judge a mango at the store, though if the trichs are getting too dark and the buds are still all not that plump, I chop them. Don't want the trichs decaying too much.
I also find that usually a whole branch ripens at roughly the same time, though not the whole plant.

when do you find the buds plump up the most. is it really quickly in the last 2 weeks. or steadily for the lats 4? I've read that calyx development is only the first 5 weeks. Then they just swell in size and really pack on weight.
as well, do you harvest one plant over a few days?
if so, are you worried about stressing the plant out by cutting it?
or is that stress a good thing,
then again, what could that stress actually do

Hmmm, good question, have really been counting but yes, probably last two weeks before harvest.
You know, i wouldn't be averse to dusting the false buds with pollen the last couple of days, I've read about it before. They won't have time to develop any seeds, but I think they may just have time to swell a little more.

Yes.

I doubt they enjoy it, but they're dying and going to be dead in a few days anyway, plus they haven't been fed for 2 weeks, so who cares.
Just want to let those trichs squeeze out their last juice and oxidate to just the right maturity...;)
