I need a relatively inexpesive ventilation fan for my room, and was thinking about using a Dayton blower. Are these things any good, and are they very loud? I can get one for around $90.00 and seems to be my best bet, but if it's going to be too loud, I need to get like a vortex or something which will set me back another month or two, lol!
Anyone ever use the daytons? I haven't heard much about them, so....

i havent heard of daytons, but i'm assuming it's a squirelcage? they can be pretty noisy; cheap alternative... get a box fan, and a big reducer from lowe's... box fans move ALOT of air!

Yes, box fans rock!
And so does all of KP's advice.
The cage's are ok, but by the time you add in the reducers and such, you might as well get a can-fan, fantech or vortex so you can add your carbon filter later if needed.

Thaks KP, and Duke. I've decided on a 6" vortex with a scrubber. I can get a Vortex for $170 on ebay, and I can make my own scrubber via high times article for cheap cheap apparently.
Next question would be how do I make my intake holes light proof? I was thinking about cutting two six inch holes in the very bottom of my grow room wall, and building a floor over them about 12" high, then cutting air paths through a couple of beams supporting the floor, and then cutting one 8" hole in the floor itslef to draw the air up to the grow room. Seems like a good idea in my mind, only my room is just 6' high as is. I want this to work, though! That false floor would make a nice place to hide my stash, lol!
"IF" I need more height: (I'm growing an indica strain, btw)
What about using like pvc u joints? (Plumbing) I could add two three 6" ones together in two different places, I guess? Would that work?
Any other ideas?

I need a relatively inexpesive ventilation fan for my roomHave you considered salvage? I've salvaged several small squirrel cage fans from trashed microwaves, plain ol' blade fans from range/stove hoods, and small cooler fans from trashed PCs. Vacuum cleaners have fans, too, but are too noisy & power compumptive for the air they move.

Go here http://www.plantlightinghydroponics.com/vortex-inline-fans-c-76_352.html . The 6" vortex is only 149.90.

Dayton squirrel cage fans are top of the line as far as for the need you have.I've got 2 dayton 265 cfm, dayton 465, and 3 hydrofarm 265 cfm.You just need to do preventive maint. on them as time goes by.Little oil on the motor. They are very quiet. The hydrofarm,I have found to be the quietest! I would buy either one.You can get either 1 for less than 90.00 off of ebay.Good luck luck with all! Grow On!
