(AP) A proposed constitutional amendment to halt gay marriage is a step closer to making the 2008 Massachusetts ballot, but the governor-elect said Wednesday that the fight to preserve the state's unique same-sex marriage rights will continue.
Lawmakers voted Tuesday to advance the proposed amendment, which would define marriage as the union between a man and woman.
The measure still needs approval in the next legislative session before it can appear on the ballot, and both supporters and opponents of gay marriage promised to step up their campaigns.

What right does anyone have to prevent a couple from marrying? Same sex or not? Those damn sodomy laws are ever present reminders of when the "church" had it's bloodied hands all over the government. And what about those children with same sex parents? Isn't it awful that the law teaches them that their parents are wrong? Whatever your beliefs may be, oppression is oppression and oppression is a sign of a patriarchy......old men abusing what little power they have left before they die! How frustrating! Again, let's turn to Amsterdam and see that the world doesn't end just because of same sex unions! Peace!

why does amrriage matter, its all ceremony and absolutely no substance, its truly meaningless as nothing is actually happening.
marriage is just another product of hyper reality and therefor doesnt exist.

marriage has nothing to do with the government anyway...it's about two people and should end at that, it has nothing to do whatsoever with government.
but the big government communist neo-conservatives don't want that...they need to be told how it is by a dominant force.

Either way. Gays have all kinds of rights...all the same rights as straight people. Sure marriage is an issue. But the worlds got bigger problems.
My uncle is gay, and I'm not against the gay way. I just don't like gays and lesbos because most of them just act like the world is opressing them. When that is far from the truth. There are people out there that really ARE oppressed by the whiteman. It's unfair for the gays to say their issues are more important than anyone elses.

I am liking this guy more and more......
Here is the problem with gay marrige....
Slippery slope.....(here at Cann.com) I saw a thread that said.... Have you ever been just hanging out with your 'blokes" and just sucked each others dicks.....? Im like WTF
The problem is that i believe Most true gays are born that way... No problem, But when you are desensitized to it.... it is OK to be hanging out with your friends and just start sucking Dicks.....Its Not OK.
Then it becomes a choice date, and it is confusing to many people especialy young people.....
Secondly..... I can prove it is wrong.....easy. If we were all gay we would be gone......
Whom ever Made US...(GOD, Jahh, allah whatever) wanted us to be Homosexual. we would be Asexual.... we are not
We need to keep the Women, Man marrige Special... Cause it IS.
We need to teach our kids you get married once.......you dont get 3 DADs like Me.... It sucked.
I will work my hardest with My wife on any problem, so we can stay together for the kids......
Once you have kids...Its not about your happiness, its about the Kids. If you do it right, you can be in heaven here on earth......
Most people are Just too selfish......I sick of this relationship...Ill look else where.....that is Bullshit. Buck up, and make it work.

People are people. If two blokes want to suck each others' dicks, and they enjoy it and it makes them happy, then have fun. I'm not gay but I have friends who are.

i said neo-cons...different than 'conservatives'...neo-cons are closer to socialism/communism than conservatism...if one must absolutely narrow things down to those fake left/right terms...
they're all words for tyranny, or dictatorship...

I think it is very hard to find the someone you can really be happy with. If two people are lucky enough to find each other no one should stand in their way.
My cousin is gay. She and her partner have been together for over 20 years. I believe they deserve all the same tax breaks, insurance and benefits that any other couple gets. I don't care what they call it if the neocons can't handle "marriage" then call it civil union I don't care as long as they are treated equally. They love each other as much if not more than most traditional couples.
If you believe in God then you most know he made everyone including gays. He was real smart in not making everyone gay....some had to go forth and multiply and multiply and multiply and multiply

Seems that you're more upset with broken marriages then you are with gay marriages.
Your slippery slope is juvenile. You didn't make a choice to be straight, and no one makes a choice to be gay. Its not preference by influence. :smacks forehead: :silly:
Dont punish 2 consenting adults from marrying because it makes you uncomfortable.
Our country says that gay couples are worthy enough to adopt children, but are not worthy enough to marry? Without the right or access to marriage, our country is telling gay couples that they are less valued than straight couples. Thats sad.
We are now with this where we were 50 yrs ago when states outlawed blacks from marrying whites, where some states made oral and anal sex a crime!
Seems almost embarrassing now, doesn't it?
I hope that we feel that way in 50 yrs when we look back to today and how we handled gay marriage.

basically money, but money is also another product of hyper reality and it doesnt truly exist. people attach meaning to these little rectangles of fiber thus making it a concept and all in the mind.

It has nothing to do with money.
It has everything to do with having the same rights as every straight couple out there.
Very simple examples:
Two domestic parters, Jill and Beth, say they have been living together for 20 yrs. Because they are not LEGALLY recognized as a couple, if Jill has a stroke and goes into the hospital;
Beth does not have the legal right to visit. She can be barred from the hospital by Jill's parents.
Beth does not have a legal right as far as Jill's course of treatment.
If Jill dies in the middle of raising a child, Beth does not have the legal right to assume parenting. So not only does she lose her partner, but also the child she helped raise.
