What happened to the real music, Gang Starr, Nas, A Tribe Called Quest, Lupe Fiasco, Talib Kweli, why dont i hear this quality music on the radio? Its so confusing these days, whos good, and whos real, and whos fake. What do you like/hate about it?

I like older stuff like NWA, Public Enemy, Snoop, Tupac, Biggie. Stuff that had flow. Now all that is on the radio is shit talkin about how gangster you are with your money, your fucking one liners to get attention, your annoying voices, your lyricist buddy who gets 1/4 of your pay. Its horrible.

I blame part of it on the fact that clearing samples is next to impossible nowadays. Back then, hiphop was a lot more sample driven. And it was better, because hiphop is about taking things from your enviornment and decontextualizing it to something else. Now, it seems to be about making that paper.

Check out Dead Prez, fuckin, Ghostface, DJ Shadow, Living Legends, etc...there's plenty of cats that still capture the essence, however, they're not going to get radio play because they don't necessarily appeal to the popular culture.

Nahhh, Kanye West uses smaples in pretty much all of his songs as does Ghostface on his newer recordings. Bad rap has always been on the radio. Just look at Ice Ice Baby.

most hip hop right now is all right to me. id say back in like 1997-2001 i liked almost all of it. people i listen to now are mostly indie artists.

I listen to indie hip hop and some older rap. I liked a lot of radio stuff from the golden age of hip hop. Some of the early 90's to 1999 was good too.

I listen to current hip hop and older hip hop... Ghostface Killah's new album (More Fish) is awesome. I was really into Eazy E and NWA for a while the past few months, but not as much now, even though I still think that they're a few of the best.

hip hop is NOT dead. nas just sayin that shit cuz the south took over. jay-z stepped out of the game and the south took over. that's why jay came back all them up north cats is scared. and anybody that say different, go cop mixtape messiah 2 on chamillionaire's website, he ever address the situation about how the media is turnin it into a east coast vs the south. free download, and it's straight jammin from start to finish, I BET you won't be disappointed

chamillionaires basically the only decent rapper out of the south these days & all his hot shit is on mixtapes anyways so i dont know what the fuck yr talkin bout

all the south really has is some hot beats out of houston

Papoose and Eminem are the hardest lyricists out in my opinion

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!! oooooh that's funny. koopa the only thing out the south? man you need to wake up. What about TIP? What about Weezy? And I guess you just forgot about UGK? As far as your houston theory goes, there are beats comin from ALL over the south. David Banner beats are sick. Just cuz southern rappers rap about different shit, folks say it ain't hip hop. I agree it's a lot of whack shit come out the south, but it's a lot of good shit too. Don't sleep on boosie, listen to his whole album instead of what you hear on the radio. Real talk, hip hop is NOT dead.

I don't really like most hip hop these days, some of it's cool to nod your head to, but everyone's either commercial, or trying way too hard to be anti-commercial and anti-mainstream. If anyone can point me to people making good music (Like Dead Prez' "Let's get Free") point me in that direction.

The South HAS taken over the MAINSTREAM, but that ain't gettin pumped in the streets..........Chicken Noodle Soup, Laffy Taffy, what the fuck is that shit.........Come on, the south can't fuck with the east lyrically and everyone knows it........If it does come into a REAL hiphop beef, whos steppin up for the south?? If you want good music from the south yu gotta go to the Project Pat's, the Scarface's and other guys who actually have lyrical talent.....Not this laffy taffy shit..........I admit some of the south tracks are Club BANGERS, but again they aren't gettin pumped in the streets, they are gettin no Street Fame through this mainstream bullshit, and that's where the real hiphop heads are at............
