Has anyone here taken accutane for acne treatment ? I am seriously considering trying it but the side effects are rather unsettling. Did smoking help with the joint aches/depression associated with it ? Any input or personal expiriences would be lovely thanks :D

I tried all types of stuff and nothing worked. I had the potential to be a good looking guy but the acne was fucking me up.
I was on it for like 6 months and never once suffered any type of depression, it made me feel better everday looking in the mirror and not seeing all the acne.
I didn't smoke at the time so I can't offer any opinions on that.
But if you have a lot of acne and you hate that shit, Accutane is great.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind gettin' on that.
One of my friends took it, he was one of those people with zits on zits (not to be mean) but he had quite a bit of acne, and it went away. One day he mentioned it and I was like "HOLY CRAP!" 'cause I didn't even realize he had zero zits.
Hes always been depressed, and on anti-depressants though, so I couldn't tell ya' if that effect him. Actually, I think he was a little more depressed than usual, but he got through it.
But I would imagine that when you see your acne clear up it would make you feel really good and I personally wouldn't worry about the depression part too much.
Joint aches...he never mentioned those, again, I wouldn't think too much about it.

When I was 8 I got my first zit. When I was 14 my ENTIRE face was covered with zits, the entire surface was red and bumpy and whiteheads could be found everywhere. Me or my friends have never seen a kid with as many zits in his/her life than me, in real life or in those Acne Medication brochures which show the worst cases for zits. I topped them ALL.
In grade 9 I tried every facial cleanser from commercial, to home-made, to specialty creams (like Proactive). Didn't do a damn thing in the slightest.
In grade 10 I started to take different medications. A few did nothing at all, and 1 started to help a TINY bit (a miracle for me), but I was told I'd have to take it for the rest of my life for it to keep working, and at $100 a month that just wasn't going to happen.
"Then my dermatologist introduced me to Accutane."
We've all heard that line on TV, right? Well now I'm saying it too. At the end of grade 10 I started to take it (one 50mg pill and two 20mg pills every day). I was told my face would get worse before it got better, and boy were they right. Now all my whiteheads started to bleed regularly and all my normal zits turned to whiteheads. I literally carried an entire pack of pocket-tissues on me at all times to keep up with getting the grease and blood off my face. This stage lasted about 3 weeks to a month. After my face started to clear up a bit and go back to how bad it was before it got worse, I started to feel a tiny bit depressed. The depression could've been due to me not being so popular with the ugly mug or my parents divorcing (well, my mom screwing over my dad and my dad leaving for what would be 2 years), but it could've been magnified by the Accutane. Anyway I also started to have the most dry lips any person could ever get. So dry I wiped them with chap stick literally every 10 seconds and splashed water on them every chance I could. For me personally those damn fucking chapped lips were the fucking worst part of the whole damn experience. But then after about 1 and a half to 2 months after I first started taking these pills, my face had a REALLY noticable differece, and those BS side effects hit the road too.
The Accutane cleared up my entire face completely of zits. I have red marks left behind as scars now from the severe case of acne I had (which believe me I don't think you have, so don't worry about scarring), but I have had maybe 20 total zits in the past 2 years.
I am about to graduate high school this year with a clear face and the feeling of knowing if it weren't for Accutane I would be a depressed loner sitting in the basement all the time. I am starting to get acne on my back and shoulders now but that is natural for someone my age and I doubt that can be cured without having to take some other kind of pricey pill..or laser surgery or some crap
Anyway realgood, would you live 2 months of worse skin, chapped lips, and maybe feeling a bit down sometimes if you knew from then on out you would be happy and have people look at you for your smile/eyes/looks instead of your cherry face? If your answer is yes, Accutane is for you my friend :D

thanks guys. I have seen 4 dermotologists and my regular dr and have finally decided to go through with accutane. Your input has helped put my fears at ease.
