Halogen lights?

do halogen lights work. they are much less expensive compared to the HPS and other HID lights and i was wondering if they work as grow lights? can anyone find any info on then like a spectrometry or such. would love to find that they work by either have red or blue light without having to get some and try. but if all else fails what harm could a small experiment do.

WAY TOO HOT!!!!! don't use halogens, unless you have a foolproof way of doing so, they generate a hundred times more heat than a 1000w hps...

do your research....have you ever stood next to a halogen...they put off more heat than lumens

Halogens FTL.

Yah, they waste like 90% of their energy on heat, and not nearly enough on light. If you want something cheaper than HID, use CFLs. They're cheap, in the right spectrum, and put off very little heat.

Halogens suck way too much electricity, put out COMPLETELY the wrong sort of light, tons of heat, and do you remember the recalls on those cheap torch lights? Yup they are seriously dangerous because of the risk of fire if something touches them or they fall over...
