Its day nine after transplanting into this hydro unit from soil. I will just count the days of veg from that day. My cabinet size is 5' tall x 3' wide x 2' - 6" deep. I have one 1000w HPS with an inline fan to keep it cool. Using GH 3-part formula with Cal-mag, Floralicious Grow and bloom, Diamond Nectar, B-1, Chi ( foliar ), and most importantly RO water. This is my first grow with this much light. I had a 250w HPS before this upgrade. The res size is 4 gallons. I plan on growing with this same hydro unit from start to finish. As soon as I can get clones I am going to flip to 12/12. I have seen growth so I know the translplant was 100% success. My smallest plant had less than one inch of roots when I transplanted and today before I trimmed the roots, they were at least like four main roots that measured close to nine inches. Now they only reach one inch past the net pot. Here are some pics of my first cab and the one I just built. The first two are the old, second two is the new.

Here are some pics of the root trimming that I am doing. On this log I will only concentrate on this one plant during this trimming experiment. Anyone object to me doing this during veg? Why?
HAPPY GROWING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:) :)

why are you trimming your roots.... the more they grow the more your plant grows

why are you trimming your roots.... the more they grow the more your plant grows
I am trimming the roots so that I can help create a stronger root system. Hear me out on this one.
The longer roots get bigger and smaller roots grow off the big root creating a main root. With the big root growing and using alot of the plants energy to grow, the smaller roots don't grow as big. I am talking about the smaller roots near the center of the root system core of the plant. Remind you I'm using three inch net pots. By me trimming the roots, the "smaller roots" ( nearest to the center ) have time to catch up to and grow just as big as the roots that have been reaching out further. This way I figure that many more main roots will grow. And nutrient uptake will be like a fat kid in a candy store. I hope I answered your question.
I also found that the plants growth does not stunt or affect growth when trimming roots.
As for my grow, last night I found a recipe on here with the products listed that I am using. I decided to try this recipe out. After all nutes were in the PPM's were like whoa! 1600ppm I have got to go back and check on these every hour to make sure they don't go under on me. I know that the ppm's are high but I want to see how this works out. I will post back in a bit.
HAPPY GROWING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D :D :D

I can't believe how much they grew overnight. As if I gave them steriods.
Here are some pics.
See how phumpd up the biggest one got even after I trimmed the roots two days ago. This bitch got big in two days. See how the roots grew out. I can't wait to see what she will look like next week!!!
HAPPY GROWING!!!!!!!!!!!!!11:D :D

Well here they are, one week later. I have trimmed them to prepare them for cloning. I had to tape up the lid to cover all light. I was having a root problem so I fixed it. It had nothing to do with the trimming of the roots, I think, but I did think that too much light was leaking into the res. Anyway my root prob is gone and my little ones look to be doing great. I am planning on taking cuttings on day 21 and start 12/12 on day 28.
How do they look?
HAPPY GROWING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I took clones today and I decided to start 12/12 tomorrow. I am sure these babies wouldn't mind stretching a bit to bud.

These pics are of day 7 of 12/12. I gave them grow nutes for the first week of 12/12 along with a flower booster. On day six of the first week I flushed with flora kleen for 24 hours to rinse out grow nutrients. On the seventh day I changed over to bloom instead of grow nutes. They all show signs of females so I hope I get lucky. If one of them is not female I am going to have huge problems. I will keep posting.
HAPPY GROWING!!!!!!!!!!!!!1:)

Man they sure haved stretched. Its hard to find a fan. Maybe I'm not looking hard enough. Oh well but don't they look good so far? I hope they stop stretching and start flowering soon. I don't want hieght to be an issue for me. They look a little sad but i guess 1800 ppm will do that to them. I figure its ok for today because their average intake is 4 - 5 hundred ppms daily. Tomorrow when I drop in fresh water I will check the ppms again and they should be at about 1300 - 1500. Just like any other grower, I can't wait for these babies to florish. I hate having to go somewhere to get meds when I can have it with me whenever I need.
Happy Growing!!

I read your last post about having 1800ppm and this popped into my head, so I had to dig it up for you
Why you shouldn't pack on the nutes
500 ppm is workable but on the low side
1000ppm is average
1500ppm is definately saline(salt)
2000ppm is high
More isn't always better. your nutes hold a charge that attracts water molecules. The right balance allows for nute uptake and water uptake, but when there are excess nutes or too many for the plant to absorb the plant has to work really hard and compete with the nutes to break off the water molecule. This is because the salts creat a high osmotic pressure and the only way to relieve this pressure it to dilute itself with water. That's why we are so thristy after eating salty food it literally draws misture from us.
Since all nutrients are salts the more utrients tahat are in the plant water, the more salts will try and steal water away from the roots. As a result the nutrient value available to the plant changes as salinity(saltiness) raises. As well the nutes themselves compete each other for water, making the roots use more energy to get what they need. The more energy roots use on finding water, the less they have to use on actually production.
Personally IMHO I would recommend going no higher than 1500ppm

Thank you for the info chronic chrissy. I just replenished with fresh water and the ppm's went down. Yesterday they were at 1800 and today after fresh water, 1530 ppm ( tds ). I tested for saline and the ppm came up at 1030ppm for saline. Based off the numbers I should be ok, right? Tomorrow it should be down to 1100 ppms and the saline should be lower. I don't replenish with nutes until the tds's get down to 600. With the recipe I am following it gives me about 600 ppms per gallon so that is why I wait to give fresh nutes. They are showing flying V's so they look good. Pistils are starting to show more. I can' t wait!
Happy Growing!!!!!;)

whats your temp in your cab? man i have a 1k light in a bigger space and the temps get out of control somtimes with 800 cfm cooling the light and 400 cfm deoderizing....wierd i might have to give the 1k light another chance

whats your temp in your cab?
Currently 77.2 degrees. During dark hours the temp is between 66 and 70. During light hours the temp is between 75 and 79. The spot where I have this cab is not very well insulated. I have to set the blower speed each day because of this reason. I know it will be worth it. Usually at 220 cfm is where I set the speed for wanted temp. Soon I will be able to insulate the room. Today I saw much more pistil development. I think it is safe for me to say that they are all females :D . I think I might have a problem with one of them though. I will post pics tomorrow.
For now here are some pics of day 16 FL

Just a couple of dark hour pics. More and more pistlils everyday. Oh yeah and about the one I thought I was having probs with is a late bloomer. I think because I chopped it so much and so close to flowering that it has spent energy healing itself instead of budding.
Happy Growing!!!

I was right about the late bloomer. Now she is flowering just fine. One of my plants is growing tons of trichs but not alot of flowers. Not really sure why. Bagseed so I can't say the strain for sure. Last pic is the one that i mean. The rest of them seem to be going good. I just changed the res today with fresh nutes. Oh yeah and now I have them in a closet. I had a mold problem in the grow room but not the cabinet. I cleaned out the room and had to move the plants. So for the rest of the grow they will be in a closet. Mold is dead now.
By the way, does anyone know if an ozone generator will hurt mj plants or if they are good for them or can help them? Any info on that would be appreciated.

Lookin really good. Its hard to believe how tall some are and how short some are staying. They seem to be filling out really well, never used hydro or a 1000 but damn those things seem to be growing fast. So much for trimming any roots anymore, did your experiment yield any results or who really gives a damn anymore? Lookin good, hope it turns out bomb as hell, how them clones doing, you just tryin to determine a good mother or two for future grows or what? Finding a fan can be hard especially during the winter and especially for such a small cab. I finally resolved to getting a 16 in stand fan that oscillates, but I don't use the oscillate feature. Set that puppy on low and the plants seem to be eatin it up. Was using this other small fan like a turbine lookin thing but hope to never have to use it again, the 16 in fan is not only quieter but it has really good air distribution, not like the other one where one or two plants would get blown like mad it even started dryin out a few leaves. Are you happy with the cab, since you cant move the light up and down would you think of movin the plants up and down for a more even canopy. Just ramblin but shit lookin good.

About the experiment of trimming roots, I really didn't find anything other than the plant grew very tall and the trunk is an inch thick. The tallest plant in the closet is the one that I trimmed roots until 12/12. The strain is unknown so I can't say that trimming the roots caused the extreme growth. As far as the clones I took all of them sprouted roots. I decided to only keep one. I decided to keep the Skunk Special strain. The clone is the last pics. After I harvest the first four I will drop down my light and this little lady will bloom with all of her might. I found a fan to fit insid the closet. 16". Makes the four plants drink 1 gal each 12 hour period. I think it is really weird that they grew so different. I mean two of them I don't know the strain and I got them from the same bag. The other two are skunk special female seeds from online vendor. Do you think that they grew so different because I had the light so high and away while vegging? Do you think that one plant might have more sativa than indica in it to grow tall? Either way in about two to three weeks these ladies will be ripe and ready. I will keep posting......
Happy Growing...............:D :D

Thank you. The first two pics are the bagseed buds. They both look like they have purple in them. Which is weird cause I got them from some really green bombashit. The first pic is the plant that is growing really weird. It is growing tons, I mean tons, of trichomes but no flowers. This plant I want to make into hash. The last two pics are Skunk Special. Beautiful.
So Dr. Hashman. What do you know about making hash? I am in need of as much info on the subject right now. So what do you know?

Thank you. This is my first grow with this much light. I think this time I have enough for the space. Before my light was nothing compared to this one. 1000w Sun System. I lowered it 12" yesterday. I swear I noticed the growth over the 12 hour period. Maybe i'm seeing things but who doesn't? They are about 3 - 5% amber right now. I am planning on nuting until the reach about 20% amber. Once they are there I will start flushing. Hopefully I yield 1/4 - 1/2lb. I can't wait to see what my single plant in the same system yeilds next month. I can compare to see if I can yeild more with one plant or four. I read in a post somewhere that one plant to one pot is best. I agree but for this grow, I think its a little too late to rip out any plants for just one:D
HAPPY GROWING!!!!!!!!!!!

did you know havesting when they are cloudy is when they are at the best they will get, you can wait but amber gives a couchlock stone while cloudy is well....like your head in the clouds :)
its a personal things really just try out what you like and go from there, they usually pack on mega weight the last two weeks of flower so you are noticing a diffrence lowering your light.
with practice you can hit a pound of dried herb no problem if conditions allow it too, practice man you can only get better from here.

Thank you. I agree with you on the head high but some people who I grow for medically like the couch lock and think that its a better high than a head high. I personally like the head high. I am planning on going with cloudy on the next harvest. I already have another seedling sprouting. The other day I got a one plant drip/dwc unit from the local hydro shop. Once my seedling is at about an inch tall I will transplant into this hydro unit. My goal is to have a rotating harvest so I can harvest month after month:D The plants have about 10% amber and I am going to flush now. Not all buds have amber to them so I know I will get a little bit of a variety.

Here we have the taller of the two Skunk Special girls. Very thick and dense. Wet weight of the biggest bud was 72 grams. 1/3 of that would be somewhere around 23 - 25 grams which I am expecting the dry weight to be. Almost an ounce with just that is pretty cool. I like my results already!:D
