I growing using 2 42w cfl's and realize that I won't have the same yield as if I was using a hid, but I want to know will there be any difference in potency between the 2 bulbs.

The world may never know. Not without high tech scientific tools and a proper expiriment atleast. But my guess would be, yes, it would adversly affect the potency, maybe not enough for you to notice. But if you plant doesnt get the energy it needs IE: Sunlight then its production overall is gonna be slowed.

in my experience, you don't lose potency, just yeild and density...

my experiences are pretty much the same. i had 3 separate flower chambers: #1 400hps, #2 150hps, #3 approx 350watts of cfls. i flowered clones from the same mother in all 3 regularly. i thought i noticed a slight difference for a bit but i think it was just in my head. as kp said yeild and density are definitely affected. i did notice that cfl's seem to produce more trichs. for that reason i added 4 42 watt cfls to the 400hps and 4 too the 150 hps flower chambers. strain and the experience of the grower have the greatest effect on potency imo.
