View Full Version : My dog is limping

There is something wrong with my dog's back right leg. She's not walking properly and clearly has trouble standing on two legs and going up and down the stairs. She's about 2 1/2 years old and weighs aroung 50 lbs. She doesn't seem to be in pain or in suffering and she's still walking. I was wondering if this is something I should worry about or if it happens to dogs from time to time. I don't have a lot of money and I have to get her shots done so I'm really worried that I'm facing another expense here.
Thanks.

Maybe the paw is asleep, that happens a lot with my dog, it goes away in about an hour...
Not sure about yours, though.

So? Whos to say there isn't a vet on the boards? Or just someone who may have an answer. Theres lots of knowledgeable people on this board that may be able to help. Why would they go to doctors.com anyway? More like veterinarians.com...
I really don't know what to tell you though man, maybe she just injured herself a lil, hopefully she'll get better soon and it won't be anything major.

Has she had any injuries, IntrepidS? She definitely needs to go to the vet, I'm afraid. Dogs can have bone injuries, joint injuries, tendon injuries, hip dysplasia, breaks, sprains--just like people. They also can have nerve injuries that cause contracture or paralysis. And they can have little strokes or spinal cord injuries that cause problems with limbs, too. This is why she needs to go to the doc. They will be able to tell a lot just by looking at her and watching her walk. They also do a test where they set the dog down on a counter or tabletop and watch how she uses the back leg when it encounters that surface.
My dog, Daisy, had a dislocated knee once that caused her not to be able to walk on her back left leg. My vet said that was a very common injury in small dogs. We had that one surgically fixed, which wasn't cheap, but it turns out that she has the same problem with her other knee, and it just sometimes pops out of place but then pops right back in. Good luck!

from what it sounds like i'd say a slipped disk. it happened to my dog before because he was jumping off of the couch and my bed to much. If i were you i'd bring her in

What kind/breed is it??? Like mentioned above some breeds are prone to disc problems... if it is a disc prob you need to watch it's weight...

like birdgirl says ,
could be numerous thingz . very high strung energetic dogs have probs. w/ a.c.l's and knees also . the top of a dogs tibula is on a 65deg. angle so the femur kinda slides down the front of the tibula stressing the hell out of the a.c ligiments . humans are about 15 deg. so it's easier for our tibula to carry our body weight . the lil brown -n- white pit in my avatar had to have a t.p.l.o this year cause of it . tibular plane leveling ostemy . 4 mos. in a cage doggy p/t . and we now give her glocosamine everyday . good as new now but a cpl. thousand $ later . lol . when you go get the dog it's shots ask the vet to check it out .
good luck

mabey he's trying to work on his pimp limp. You can't pimp bitches with a bad limp.
if it looks like theres somthing wrong have the dog lay down and rub that leg, if it wines then you might have a problem. it helps the circulation too
