Dealing with sprouts

As soon as I checked the seeds after my post I saw that one sprouted..sorry bout polluting the board, but now that I have my sprout, my jiffy pot, and my gro light, and my soil, how deeply should i plant the sprout and how should I water it? And how much light should I give it?

don't plant the sprout very deep at all, basically just put the sprout on top of the soil and lightly sprinkle it with some more soil just so that it's covered. it will need lots of light once it has broken the soil, to prevent stretching. what kind of light are you using?

I'm not sure exactly what the wattage is on the light I'm using. I was originally going for a GRO-LUX VHO but the gardening store didn't have them. This was the strongest light they told me they had so I went ahead and got it. Any specific type of light I should be using? Will the one I have do the job?

all right fella just abit of advice i would take up that carpet in there as well a carpet hide's all sorts of bacteria and pest's that can hurt ur baby and cause u seriouse problems down the line.as for the light thats ok for now i guess it all depends on how much money ur wanting to spend at the end of the day. there are some good mh and hps units out there but if not the just get some cfl's and some more of them strip light's highest wattage you can find. but for right at this minute your ok.

oh yh sorry man didnt read all that properly if you only have the one baby you should be all right with a 400w hps. also whats your ventalation like in there? sorry if im rambleing on abit lol

Hey, MC, thanks for the info so far. Here's a pic of my new grow room sans carpet. The ventilation is good...I've put a fan in there and have a bigger one just outside. I also got a 150 watt gro lite bulb in the meantime...I got a lot of guff from ppl in the gardening store...they def knew what I was using these lights for...lol. Whatever

Anyway, the light I had was a T5 florescent light...it was only like 30 watts or something like that, so the fixture above isthe light i added on with it. An agrosun 150 watt grolight. It says to hang it roughly 18 inches from the plant so I took care of that.

How long does it take for a sprout to...sprout? Should I not worry bout the 12-16 hour light cycles till it does? And how do I know if I'm putting in enough water?

it should not take that long im creeped it self down the soil and then poped out it got to the bottom the came up with leaves after and its a nice grow as well

you should have your lights as close as you can get them without burning your hand when it is at top of plant. fluoros can be placed within 2"...

keep an oscillating fan in room to stimulate the stem growth, and spritz a copuple times a day with water add superthrive 1/4tsp per gallon to your water.

all right mate is the temp nice and warm in there coz they need that to germ and at this stage it dont really matter if you have the light on or off but as soon as she pops her head do what late wood said and put the light within 2" of ur baby dnt worry if its a flo it won't burn her take it easy man!

haha ok. yea it was cool when the fan is on...i have it off to get it warmer so my lil baby can sprout. I'll keep u guys updated on how its doin. Right now its not peeking thru yet tho. This is friggin complicated lol

all right mate listen i read this the other day and it is an excellent read it tell's you every thing you need to know and more i think it's done by kindprincess. all i can say is read and read man it's not that complicated its just a case of getting the hang of it. take it easy man i'll keep watching this thread

Yo, my baby sprouted! Thanks for the link MC, ill give it a read. Check out the fuzzy pic. I'm turning the lights off for a few hours. Is it possible to give a sprout too much light? Can I just leave those suckers on

Yuo should leave the light on for awhile...I would wait until it was 18 hrs. from the time of day I want the light to come back on...

As far as link above...keep in mind that that link is copy/pasted from another site...Although a very large guide to different growfaqs and theory's...It does not replace hands on learning. I read about 1 page of it and found it to be copy/pasted material...so You must read and know what you are reading and some of the info is wrong. It does have the overall info for you to start with and points you in a direction, that through research you can confirm each topic. Personally I like growguides that are written by growers own experiences...alot of times you can tell, because these type guides will bring notice of the mistakes they made and it makes the learning process more permanant. Anyway, Goodluck and good reading.

keep the light closer to the plant maybe six inches.depending on how much heat it gives off.but what u have will do the trick 4 a lil while but u will want a mh or a hps set up.and kindprincess knows what shes doin.listen to her

all right mate well im glad to see that it's popped it's lil head lol any way that guide i gave u is just a guide every one does things different i just thought it would help you off on the right foot. any way having your lights on 24/7 wont hurt your baby neither will having them 18/6 like most ppl. but i would suggest like nick said try and get a hps in there but if you do decide to go down that route you will need fan's and an extractor fan as well for the heat coz them hps do put out alot and you need the temp's between 70-80 i find 82 works best its just keeping it regular. most of learning is from experiance but u got to read and read as well. so you can spot problems befor they arise and fix them. but so far every thing is looking good man. as for telling sex there are a few sign's whilr your in veg but u aint no way near that point yet usually ppl can tell in the first 2 weeks of flowering as well but we will get to that point as and when you need it. i dont know why latewood is dising that link that k.p done coz i think personally its great for noobs to read it helps them start off on the right track. (sorry latewood if you were'nt dissing it it just came across that way) any way crazy keep us informed like i said i'll follow this thread now and make sure ur ok. i got a party to go to now so i'll check in on ya later happy new year to every one peace out

It is stretching for light...you need to get fluoro right down on that or it will fall over...do you have small fan lightly agitating sprout? We should be able to see the light in the photo...peace

latewood does have a point there i didnt notice that earlier try and get the light as close as u can like within 1 to 2 inches above ur baby and try to get more cfl's in there as well. have u decided if ur gonna get a hps light yet?

I just so happened to have this NYCD I just brought back from the brink of death...:( So I figured...we are in the same boat...I will post this and we will both grow out our seedlings...
here you go...;)
I have nurtured this NYCD sprout from death...It has been vegging a week in this pot under this 42-45w cfl...
1. is like it looked a minute ago...
2. I moved the cfl so you could see the seedling better...
3. repositioned and ready...

Hey guys thanks for the info. Yeah I moved it around a lil bit and the guy toppled over, but I threw on a lil more soil and watered it and hopefully it'll still be good. We'll see. I have ordered an hps but I'm waiting on it to get here. In the meantime I've got that floro right up there maybe like an inch away, but I have my 150 watt growlight hanging about 18 inches away. Maybe thats what's stretching out the sprout? I've attached a pit to show you guys what I'm talkin bout. I turned off the floro so that its easier to see. The thing in the bottom left corner is my fan.

looks gd man i bet ya cant wait to get ur hps now lol. well ive stopped growing coz i had the old bill round this morning. nothing to do with my grow but they were asking to many questions and digging in to my past so ive got rid ov every thing now so im gutted on that score but wen i start up again im going hydro and hps so its all gd give's me a lil time to save up lol. any way im glad it's all going gd for u. putting a bit of extra soil on top is all gd it help stables it and what u covered will turn to root so no biggie there. you said you had a grow light in there as well what sort is it? just wondering thats all coz it looks like one of them secruity lights lol might just be my eyes im too stoned ne ways happy new year man and keep us updated. laters!:stoned

LOL ur rite it kinda does look like a security light. Nah thats ust one of em you cant really see the other cuz of the light but i got a floro right up there along with the security light. Thats a 150 watt grow light which I was told is pretty decent but obvi no substitute for HPS. Still waiting on that hps btw and about to check up on my planties now. I'm at my fams house and im growin in my studio apt. Makes me kinda nervous sometimes but this projects just too interesting.

So you had to gut ur palnts an all that man...thats a shame. maryjane should be legal godammit but dont get me started...

yh man i had 9 clone's plus the mother in the garden i had to get rid of them all. abit gutted but it gives me time now to get a full set up i can just get it bit by bit i will have it going again in two months top's i need the money for one lol. any way im glad it's all going ok for you. i thought u only had one now i see two pots in there lol. have you got an extractor fan for when you get your hps coz they put out alot of heat not as much as my mv light but still enough to warrant one. you'll need some good ventalation in there as well. have u decided what nutes and fert's your going to use yet. i know its alot to think about but its better to decide now than when u need them get every thing ready now it will save you alot of hassle down the line also i dnt know if u have one but a ph tester would be handy as well you can buy the little test kits but my personal opinion would be to get an electronic one there more accurate. if you dnt want to spend to much money then look on ebay or summing like that i no in the shops there like £70 it all depends on how much ur wanting to spend on ur babies. like i say i no its alot to think about but it's well worth it in the end

Yeah man that was actually my next question. I got some neuts but not sure if theyre rite for my babies...its this stuff called schultz plant food plus. Its all purpose liquid plant food and um. it says 10-15-10. Thats gotta be imp. Is that rite for my babies? Says on the side is 10 percent N 15 percent P2O and 10 percent K20.

Haha I'm not sure my 2nd one's gonna sprout though, the seedling look like it stopped in the middle of germination n it became too dry, but i got a few others ready and prepping to go
