First of all, thank you for taking the time to read this.

This is what is in place : hydrohut mini, 400 watt hps, black generic nursery containers in varying sizes, large bag of "planting mix" from a local nursery ( clerk said it was peat moss, vermiculite and perlite), timer, cheapo ph tester, and some seeds (two different varieties)

So I still have some items to collect. In my mind those items are: exhaust fan, air filtration, and nutrients.

The budget for improvements is two hundred forty dollars. What is the best thing that can be done in this scenario ?

how many plants are you planning on growing? I dunno what your setup is, but I would skip the odor control altogether (unless you are growing in a place where 4-6 plants would really stink it up) and invest that $240 to make sure you have plenty of soil, a fan, and then spend the remainder on nutrients, if you have around $150 left that should be plenty to get some decent nutes.

GL,

Mr. K

edit: after reading your post, I also wanted to add that make sure you have accounted for random, stupid stuff in your budget (extension cords, screws, whatever else) and also you might want to spend some of that $240 on mylar/white paint/something reflective to put around your plants

the fan is what you need to look at, thats the priority item to keep temps down and suck out stale air.

is a hydro hut the same thing as a grow-tent?

I have plenty of soil and I also have the random stupid stuff all over the place. The whole interior of the growing closet "hydrohut" is reflective.

Do you really think I can get by without odor control ? This is all going down in a smaller bungalow house in a older suburban area where the homes are fairly close to one another.

Yes, the hydrohut is a grow tent of sorts. It is 3.5 feet by 3.5 feet and about 6.5 feet tall.

id would invest into a squirrel cage fan, something along the 465CFM range, that will be your biggest purchase of about 100.00

that will exhaust all your air in a matter of minutes, your fan is the most important part of your grow, your lights are meaningless if you dont have good fans.

Invision, is 465 cfm neccessary ? The space is only about 60 cubic feet.

Fan is definitely improtant. Fo sho.

400w HPS...60 sqft...465cfm might be a bit much, but it never hurts to get a really strong fan. With that being said, some people will recommend getting a 'dimmer' for your fan so you can buy a stronger one than you need and tune the fan down as you need it.

Another thought is what you are going to do with your extraction...? My suggestion, as I have seen it work decently well in more than one thread, IS...air-cool your light...and suck the rest of the air out of the cab THROUGH your light. If you don't understand what I mean, check out my thread or Splifted's thread. Our setups are the same pretty much.

I forgot what I was saying...

Oh...yea, I guess you would call it a 'half-cooltube' or something. This way you can get most of the heat out of your light to begin with (the whole point of cooltube) but also pull the stagnant air out of your room through the same fan.

go with something equivelant to a 4" vortex. I think they are like 172 or 192 CMF. Thats what i use in my Regular Size Hydro Hut.

It has been suggested that I go without odor control. Would this still be okay when you consider the fact that the air from the grow is being exhausted into the spot where a dryer vent would go ?

i wonder about the advice. The air coming out of the vent will stink regardless. In my house, the dryer vent is near my neighbors front door. I dont know about you, but it wont work for me. If the strong smell of marijuana coming from the side of your house is not an issue, then go without odor control. BTW, where is your dryer vent.

when i had one plant in full flower it stunk so bad it would hit you in the face the second you walked in the door, and the grow was located in the basement.
