Don't ask me a question and then close a thread before I can answer. To me, that is obnoxious.
If you wanted these threads gone, why don't you delete them instead of having them still lying around? They are there for everyone to read, and for everyone to put their 2 cents in. If you're going to close a thread because you think it's obnoxious, I personally feel that you are abusing the privileges that come with your position.
I hope you don't take this in an offensive way. It's just one guy's opinion. :)
And to answer your question, My motivation, is my opinion.

That's interesting. Because I found the fact that you resurrected a thread titled "Dude f--- people" a whole lot more obnoxious. That's what we refer to as a "shit finger" topic. They inevitably end up causing more problems than allowing for friendly discussion. And since I'm so taken with all the privilege and power that comes with this position (yeah, right), it was my prerogative to close it. Trust me that at least a couple of our other mods, had they seen it first, would have done the same thing. I notice you've been in a ressurrection mood this evening. People are welcome to do that. They are indeed there if they're not yet moved to the archives. But why resurrect potential conflict-causing threads? Why not start a reasonable one of your own? Or just read? You may not notice it, but there's been more "attitude" on the boards today than normal. Perhaps it's a touch of post-holiday blues. Perhaps it's from people having been cooped up in the house with relatives too long. Whatever it is, I'm trying to moderate so that this lounge will remain, as it's supposed to, a place for friendly discussion. And not obnoxiousness. You seem to be aiming for the other alternative, frankly.
By the way, if I ever close another of your threads after asking you a question and not giving you a chance to answer it, you can always email me.

Masta, both that font and the statement were obnoxious. If you want to say such a stupid thing, at least do it in a legible font. You can do that, if you must, after I delete that earlier one.

Perhaps you're reading into this too much.
What I aim for, is to have my opinion stated nice and clearly. The title of a thread doesn't neccessarily reflect the contents of said thread. Please don't assume that I'm trying to provoke conflict. Please don't assume anything, frankly. Because assumptions are the mother of all... well you get the point, and so do I.

oh yeah, may i add two things, in her 'defense'... first, the threads are there, but it'd be alot more work on them (mods) to go back and close/delete them all, when they are in the past, and until someone brings them up, aren't actually causing any 'harm'.... that was in response to
"If you wanted these threads gone, why don't you delete them instead of having them still lying around?"
and the other, is that thread was made along time, before she was even a part of this site, much less a mod with the power to close it.... you just brought it back, which 'pointed it out to her' so to speak... well that's all i really have to say... except, that no one, absolutely no one has ever stated they feel ANY mod is abusing their power, except for the ones being 'modded' against... i just find that kinda funny :p

She doesn't need any defending, she's more than capable, and I'm not flanking her from the left. Just having a discussion, but I hear ya slipknotpsycho.

I'm not assuming, TAG. I was simply basing my conclusion on what I saw, to be honest, and partially, too, on my limited observation of your actions today.
The thread title may not reflect the contents of said thread to you. And indeed, that one didn't after you resurrected it. I’m well aware that your comments and the one reply that came after yours didn't follow the "Dude f--- people" line, which was great. But I’m hoping sometime you can see my actions from a wider board perspective. That thread title invited other subsequent posters, many of them far less civil and courteous than you, to join in on that obnoxious theme. As Slipknot pointed out, those old threads were created before many of us were members or mods, and they were also created under the previous ownership of the boards, when the standards were rather different. We’re tasked with enforcing the newer standards. And some of us are also rather keen on keeping the main lounge as free of invective and obnoxiousness as we can. It’s not always easy, but it does matter. This lounge is the face of cannabis.com, and if we’re ever going to be successful at raising the esteem in which cannabis advocates and smokers are held—or at changing attitudes and, ultimately, laws—then certainly civility and courtesy are good places to start.
I’ve enjoyed this debate, but I must sign off now and finish cooking supper for my family. I also need to deal with a more troubling issue here at home, and that’s the fact that my 18-pound orange cat keeps making running leaps onto my lap, practically knocking me off my chair, in order to vault up and walk on my computer desk and shelves, and then jump down onto my keyboard. It’s time for a tabby time-out.

This is first and foremost a POT site. You've got many hardcore stoners on here, and that's the way it should be. People that frequently smoke heavy stuff, for a long time, have been known to get a little warped, and that comes with the territory. I'm not even doing it very much these days, but many aspects of my attitude and demeanor are permanently affected and still considered abnormal by the "straight" people's standards - which is fine with me. I'll beat most of them at so many things that it's pathetic. My self-esteem is fine.

This is all nonsense now, isn't it? It seems like everyone already has proven their point..
But this whole thing was pretty funny :stoned: Stoner arguments are great, the other side ussually tries not to piss off the other.

JUST because they have authority doesn't mean they are RIGHT. in fact, those in authority are in definitely wrong sometimes. not saying brdgirl was wrong (i don't know the forum rules, or the guidelines for a moderator)
sgs2: don't know why i had to point that out, but it's a pretty important concept in this day and age... we got people all around us with TOO much authority and you got to handle yourself. YOU have the DUTY to question their "right" to be a moderator/cop if they act in a particular way.

I've not seen either threads that TAG is talking about, but I think if Psycho4Bud or BobBong or any other mod had closed them, would you have worded your post differently? Would you have posted this at all? Just because Birdgirl is a new mod does not mean her authority is any lesser than the rest. She has not once in the time I've been here done anything unfairly, and I'm sure she thinks it over carefully before acting. Some of you need to learn to respect the actions taken, and quit your bitching.
Every now and then, I completely agree with you.;)
Hope you had a Merry Christmas and Santa was nice.

That is one of the perks of being a mod. Closing a thread is but a click away.
So are other options, such as banning posters and giving infractions.
Mods here start out as regular posters and they form opinions along the way.

come to think of it, birdgirl gave me an infraction for telling someone the dangers of one drug over another, you know, trying to save someone from making a stupid decision, because it had the letters L, S, and D in consecutive order. hmmmm

Timothy, that infraction you mentioned for non-cannabis discussion, which is now expired, was actually a one-pointer, which is just a warning. You received your actual active infraction for sales/MOM/begging/asking/offering, as you're well aware. If I weren't actually a fairly tolerant person, you'd be on a vacation from the site till that active infraction expires a month from now.

that infraction for the MOM link was totally understandable. I didn't know what it was at the time, but i definitely do now, and I'm glad you at least gave me access back, but that first warning you gave me was for saying something that could have saved someones life you know. The dude was talking about doing dxm for goodness sake, I couldn't let him do that stuff without warning him how bad it is...

Yeah, that's always the argument we hear: you were doing an important public service. But the cannabis-only discussion policy is what it is, and there were actually four threads deleted and three warnings given from that particular discussion, and cough medicine was the least troubling non-cannabis substance that came up in that thread. It was two much more dangerous substances that caused y'all to get warnings. You may not remember because that thread has moved pretty far down by now--and because those specific posts have been deleted--but I just looked it back up and can assure you that cough medicine was the least of its problems.

I'm not going to take it any further, because when two people can't take no for an answer nothing good can come of it.
But all of us on here break the rules sometimes, otherwise we wouldn't be here, unless you're the DEA... but that's a whole different story. Anyway it was a long time ago. What's done is done.

i am gonna close this because i think all that has needed to be said has been...everyone has an opinion, and that is okay, but i think TAG and birdgirl can resolve this without others help..both are very capable and knowledgable people...i also want to add that i dont think TAG said anything because birdie is a new mod..and she really isnt that new anymore..this is turning into a bash TAG thread, and i dont think it is fair to do that for expressing an opinion, especially when it was done in a respectful way....that is MY 2 cents....
