View Full Version : cfl too hot

My temperatures are around 30 degrees celius or 90 degree fehrenheit.

A little bit more at times, only reduced to two 26w bubls to minamize the heat, but still seems too much. Have different brands so on and similar results.

Added a small computer fan that's blowing on the plant, and will add a exhaust fan soon hopefully.

Is it normal for cfl to have these temps?
Thought with cfl I wouldnt have to result to fans so on for temp control.

yeah instead of taking out a bulb put in a fan even a cheapo wallmart fan they still have one or two in the heater section. just let it blow around until you build an exhaust. keep your temps under 80

Hey 'sup,
Well a couple things...
One, that's not a cfl... just a tube flouro... you'd get much better light with a swirly-bulb type flourescent (which is what everyone on here refers to as a CFL) and that tube there may not be enough light for your plant.
The other is that the thermometer's probe will read more accurately if it hangs free in the air. Dark soil absorbs light and therefore heat... it might be reading high.
You want 'cool white' type lights right now in the seedling and then veg stage and you also need lots of ventilation. A fan blowing on the plant is a start, but you need a true exhaust to get you temps under control.

Kind of glad you posted, I've spend more than enough reading, including your work so thanks for the advice but most of those things are in the process or in the thoughts. Which spectrum of light so on.
My log is there http://boards.cannabis.com/showthread.php?t=93727 :-)
I'll have to update that, a better pic can be found though of the cfl.

Hey 'sup,
Fine, she just better be a girl the sibling is near dead.

Yes it is, just cant see well because of its light. Look right over the pot.
It's only sprouted right now so figured it doesnt need that much if I'm not mistaken. The flouro is a backup and used mainly when visitors are by so it doesnt give away too much.

Agreed, theres a inner and outer temp both are too high. Soil increase temp. thought of that most of the time its hanging off the side and thinking of some kind of stick support.

'cool white'
Agreed 90% are daylight 6500k, two are 4000k and two 2600k. Only 6500k for sprout/veg. Probably HPS for flowering. Haven't decide if I need two different locations for the stages or just to make a converting unit.

And as for fans it's a temporary measure until I can find a inline duct fan. Homedepot too pricy. Ebay alright but shipping costs and from states will take too long. Not sure if one with a filter will be enough but I guess time will see if it is or isnt.

What about a home depot fart fan? You'll have to wire a replacement cord to it to make it a plug-in but at like $14 you can't go wrong. That's what used to cool my old grow room.
They're in the aisle with the sinks and toilets and shit

Cheapest one was still like 40, and all of them had housing not inline. Looking to make a homemade activated carbon filter so inline ideal. If I get desperate I'll get one until then I'm hopeful for one like this. http://www.homedepot.com/prel80/HDUS/EN_US/diy_main/pg_diy.jsp?CNTTYPE=PROD_META&CNTKEY=misc%2fsearchResults.jsp&BV_SessionID=@@@@1544456487.1166731595@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccdjaddjjjmgjficgelceffdfgidgin.0&MID=9876
I'll probably mount a fan controller aswell so wiring shouldn't be a problem in my case. Bed not too far :-)

Seems the american homedepots have a better selection of this stuff than my local one.

I snagged a squirrel cage fan (http://boards.cannabis.com/showthread.php?t=95145) out of a microwave oven. Workes wonders. Not recommended if you don't know your way with tools & electricity.

Otherwise, a small oscillating fan will do till an exhaust is made.

Yeah I had heat problems with CFL's aswell..The room temp around your cab can greatly affect the temp inside the cab because one I moved mine things changed almost instantly.

Thats what I ended up doing, closing off the heater in the room completely and opening the window.

Now it was getting too cold, lol.

Hi, steal what you like but not my plants.

I'm keeping the door open for now until the exhaust gets worked out.

I'm still hunting for a hps system, in which case an exhaust filter would be needed and a cooling tube for the hps since its too small of a space to have it. Boxing day I'll hit some stores and hopefully pick up an inline fan or a fart one.
