I really like southern accents as well. My other favorites are english / australian. The last time I visited London the english accents I encountered were quite thick. There were times I had to ask a few times what people were saying and they were speaking English!!

according to my sociology textbook a person's social class in england is usually distinguishable by their accent and they're treated accordingly after they speak... seemed extreme to me but is that accurate to people who live in the UK / union jack?
