First of all, I'm a huge Bon Scott fan, not so much Brian Johnson. I find his voice too raspy so I feel he butchers the old songs.

Having said that, Angus' guitar work was stellar and the energy of the whole show; inspiring. They finale was For Those About to Rock, with the cannons going off you could feel the shockwave hitting your chest. It was awesome.

This is a funny thread to me since I work in the live concert industry as a sound man.
You will be shocked to hear that I have seen over 100 Teena Marie shows since I have worked for her since 2003. Presently I have taken a new job with the band 'Cowboy Mouth' but since I just started, I have seen only about ten of their shows.
I have also worked for House of Blues (New Orleans and Chicago) since 1998 and I have seen SO MANY different shows as a result of working there. Often, as the 'house guy' I am asked to do monitor engineering for these bands. Here are just a few from the past few months:

The Hush Sound
Better Than Ezra
Mushroomhead
Al DiMeola
Twisted Sister (I was working that show, Yeag!)
Rev Luv (my friend's band-opened for Twisted Sister)
Redman
Method Man
Tower of Power
Peter Frampton
Three Dog Night
Sugarcult
Hatebreed
Victor Wooten
Yonder Mountain String Band
Old Crow Medicine Show
Pearl Jam (last year - hurricane Katrina benefit)
Robert Plant (opened for Pearl Jam last year)
the Subdudes
Shiny Toy Guns (damn, that girl is HOT!!)
and so many more...

Oh! and when I lived in New Orleans I worked for the Neville Brothers, the funky Meters, George Porter, Jr., Brides of Jesus, and Russell Batiste. Russell also got me a little bit of work with Vida Blue when he was doing that project with Page McConnell and Otiel Burbridge.

There is no way I could ever list EVERY band I heve ever worked with. Some artists are such idiots I have blocked those experiences out of my memory.

BTW: BOYCOTT HOUSE OF BLUES!! Please do the industry a favor and stop going to House of Blues shows. Since they were bought-out by Live Nation the company has been cutting corners at an alarming rate, stripping benefits from employees that have shown tremendous amounts of dedication. (myself included, and MANY others)

1st concert was "Jethro Tull" in 73
Harry Chapin 77, 78 & 79 { At my High School} Smoked joint with Harry in bathroom stall in 79, his weed.
Earth Wind & Fire 79 { At my High School}
The Outlaws 79 {At my High School}
Mashal Tucker Band 79 {At my High School}
Rolling Stones 80
Saw "Tull" again in 81
"Who" 1st Farewell tour 81 {Should have been their last}
The Clash and David Johanson with the Who's 1st Farewell tour in 81
Twisted Sister at least 30 times at clubs on Long Island back in the old days.
Robert Plant twice 83 On LSD & 91 1/8th of hash
Greateful Dead 83 on some very wild LSD and shitloads of weed

Can't remember any other concerts except bar bands that never really went anywhere. Aint been to a show in a long time, couldn't do it when I was drugged out. And now I do not care to be in a big crowd like that, my hearing means something to me now that it does not work as well. What did you say?

This is a great thread! It's really taking me back to some of the good times I've had at shows. Nothing beats live music! I'll try to list these in roughly chronological order.

Pink Floyd (Division Bell tour, sophomore year is HS, before I ever did any kind of drug, still the absolute best show I've seen)
Hootie and the Blowfish:confused:
White Zombie x2
Metallica
Pantera
Ozzy Osborne
Filter
Rob Zombie
Moby (the man is a dynamo onstage)
Bush (they blew)
Dave Matthews Band x3
Umphree's McGee
Dirty Dozen Brass Band
Bonnaroo 1 and 4: highlights included Particle, moe., Jack Johnson, Xavier Rudd (amazing), John Prine (best show of both my 'Roos), and Modest Mouse
Keller Williams
The Big Wu
Yonder Mountain String Band
moe.
Dell McCoury with Allison Krauss and Vince Gill
O.A.R.

Looking at this list makes me think two things:

1. There are some bands I really, really want to see that I haven't: most notably Coldplay, Radiohead, and Beck.

2. THANK GOD METAL WAS JUST A PHASE! :)

Nothing is better than being front row, completely lost in the music. You lose track of everything, and go wherever the sound takes you. Such a rush.

For some bands, going and seeing them live is half the experience. Lights shows now-a-days are amazing.

I've seen:
Funeral for a Friend
Bullet for My Valentine
Gratitude
A Static Lullaby
Alkaline Trio
The Automatic x2
Switches
Cat the Dog
Forward Russia
Boy Kill Boy
Taking Back Sunday

Not a very impressive list really.

I was going to see Bullet for my Valentine again when they came down with As I Lay Dying and Bleeding Through, but I was ill on the day. Same with We Are Scientists. Next year I want to go see Forward Russia again, Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly and Rise Against, though I doubt I'll get round to buying tickets before they sell out...

Ahh, I see where you're coming from. Yeah, ticket prices have gotten fucking outrageous. It seemed to happen in just the last 10 years or so. Back when I was seeing the Grateful Dead tickets would be like $20 and we'd go three nights in a row. Hell, when I saw Pink Floyd in '95 we had 13th row and tickets were only like $30. Now decent seats for the neighbor kids garage band are like $100.

Fortunately a lot of bands are now putting out soundboard recordings of concerts that you can download off the internet. The sound is awesome and even though they cost $15 or so it's better than a $75 ticket and at least you have something to keep.

thcbongman
12-21-2006, 06:21 PM
Ticket prices are pretty expensive these days, but I understand why. Most of them need the money, perhaps not the rolling stones, but 3rd-tier and lower bands.

But nothing beats bands live. I gotten into bands and bought their album based on what I heard live. Rap is a great example. I generally dislike what they do in the studio. Most of their albums, I find are overproduced. Live is another story, you are there, you are pumped up by their lyrics and beats. You feel it. You understand why all these wiggers are pumping their arms, jumping around and you can't help but join in.

Nochowderforyou

I've seen a few bands over the years. Haven't been to many as of recent, but for a few years I was seeing shows every week. This is what I've seen:

Van Halan
The Rolling Stones
Marilyn Manson
Moist (A Canadian band)
Swollen Members 2x-Canadian hip-hop at its finest
Pantera 2x
Slipknot
Slayer
Strung Out 2x
Rise Against
Nofx
Thrice
Poison the Well
Lagwagon
Rancid
Mighty Bosstones
Less Than Jake
Raised Fist
SNFU
Steppenwolf
System of a Down
Throwdown

I think that's all of them. I've been to a few Warped Tours, the last one being about 3 yrs ago now. I don't go anymore as it's infested with Emo's, and I kill emo's ;) I went to Ozzfest in Seattle back in 1999. That's when I saw Slipknot, Slayer and Pantera all on the same bill. Then I saw Pantera again, and for the last time, during the Reinventing tour.

Countless texas country guys that yall wouldn't really care about much less know. On my 21st birthday, Max Stalling and Cooder Graw let me decide the last 2 songs that they played since it was my birthday. Very cool if you know who they are.

When I went to Amsterdam, Type O Negative played 1/2 hour after I boarded my return flight. Really would have wanted to see them, especially in amsterdam, that would have been really special.

Ive seen:

Slayer
Lamb of God
Children of Bodom
Mastadon
Thine Eyes Bleed

this was all at the unholy alliance tour last summer, although I never heard of thine eyes bleed untill then I thought they were cool because after their set the guitarist came out and went into the moshpit with us for the rest of the show. Killer show I definitely recomend seeing all of the above bands for all you metal heads.

This summer I plan on seeing slayer again in august and I'm also gonna be going to the free ozzfest if I can make it down to connecticut.

ooo Chimaira. Good stuff right there. I've got a pass out of existence shirt somewhere that I still sport occasionally. Makes me look 9 kinds of hardcore. Like I could kill small children with just a look.
