View Full Version : Household METAL devices that can be used as a stem and slide?

Hey again guys. I decided to make my own bong, using a glass bottle. That part went well, but now I'm not sure what to do. I tried using plastic (pens), but found the only pieces that would fit tasted funny (just drawing in clean air), and weren't taking the heat from lighters too well. So I call upon the potheads to help me find common household items that are metal and will work as a stem and slide (I guess wood would work too, but idk). Thanks

no one knows your house or what's in it, so it'd be hard to tell you anything to use.. just go to home depot and look for something that would work... if nothing else, i would suggest just making a non-removable bowl.

Guys help this poor guy out, he wants actual suggestions, not just a hijacked thread. JohnGalt, I personally used to be an avid musician, and i have been using a trumpet mouthpiece, it works amazingly as a downstem and bowl. Good luck

Hmm, I have a popper bottle that I want to put a slider on so any good ideas would help me out too. Right now i'm using the old socket wrench socket with some tinfoil for a screen but the tinfoil keeps breaking through and im losing alot of weed.

i used a wind chime as a down-stem & a socket from a socket wrench as a bowl. If you have any deep sockets(like a socket designed for taking off a lug nut) lying around, those can actually function on their own as a pipe.

Hmmm, that's actually a pretty good idea. I also saw some copper tube lying around... is there any way to cut it eaisly without the use of a blow torch?

Copper should cut pretty easily. Use a hack saw or like some bolt cutters. Only problem is w/ bolt cutters you'll squish the end flat. You can bend it back to round using pliers though, copper is soft. Good luck.

For a screen, metal window screen works or you can pop off the screen from inside the aerator on a sink. Like the part where the water comes out of your faucet has an ideal screen in it. Only problem is you'll probably get bitched at for taking it lol.

Yeah, I had thought about a window screen but I heard somewhere that smoking that shit gets you fucked up so I never risked it. Any truth to this?

Well guys, I found some thick ass copper tubing (bout 1/2"-3/4"), and some left over heavy duty plastic tubing (aslo 1/2"-3/4") from a commercial spray paint gun. I was thinking about using the plastic tubing as the stationary stem (using hot glue or epoxy to attach it to the glass), while soldering the copper tubing to my big socket wrench bowl, and using that as the sliding piece. Sound feasible(sp)?

The fact that you mention soldering bothers me. I don't want to have lead near my bud. The possibility that some of the metal in the solder could re-liquefy or release fumes upon heating, which one does with a bong, genuinely would scare me away from the idea.

do NOT use copper, it is very bad to use, it gives off all kinds of harmful chemicals when burnt... i repeat do NOT use copper, or lead or aluminum for that matter...

Whoa, thanks for warning me about the copper and solder. I hadn't known about the high lead levels in most solders, or its very low melting point
