Trey Anastasio just got busted for possesion of perscription medication and got a DUI for smoking hash.

I cant believe it. You could tell Trey had a drug problem if you look at him now and 10 years ago but from what I've been reading, it was apparently pretty serious. He's probably going to go to rehab and will probably retire which means NO MORE TREY SHOWS AND NO HOPE OF PHISH EVER REUNITING. Either that, or he gets clean and they go back on the road because it looks like hard drugs are what caused them to break up in the first place.
Unless you're a Phish head, this probably doesnt sound that significant, but you have to realize that this validates the rumors that hard drugs broke up one of the largest bands in the world and thus destroyed an entire subculture. It was genocide. And you know the source of it all? Crack. In 1998, Trey tried crack and Phish was never the same. I'm prety sure the goverment had something to do with this since they never were to fond of Phish and their pot somking peace love friendship community. The moral I guess is NEVER EVER DO CRACK.

Don't let music define who you are, let yourself define who you are.

But Phish wasnt just music, they were an entire event, they were a life style unto themselves much like the Grateful Dead. Without phish there were no more music festivals, the market for cannabis, lsd, and other psychadelics dropped noticably, and an entire community of people who would follow them around was shattered just like that. Therefore it was a geneocide. I think you are missing the idea that phish was about community and finding happiness in a community. Being youself is cool and all but when you are able to be yourself amongst a group of likeminded people, then you have community and thus happiness. It's an old social instict which in itself is an interesting concept but besides the point.

The leader is never the strongest, just the one who gets all the attention. That's what was cool about phish. Trey was just the Mecedes Benz hood ornament at the front of the entire car but without the hood ornament it just isnt the same. Man's megalomania stems from his fears of becoming forgotten after death and thus invalidating his existance. I would love to be a leader and have millions of hippies worshipping me as I sing and play guitar onstage but for now I just need to be happy with what I got. Unfortunately I'm not happy with what I've got. Quite a paradox...

why does getting caught with drugs mean hell retire? many good musicians have been into drugs harder than pain pills and put out good music, in a lot of cases what they did on drugs being better than the sober shit. there are still festivals and have been since after phish broke up i think you just pulled that out of your ass. at these festivals you can still find many many different drugs. the government did not plan to have phish break up by having trey smoke crack. honestly most of what you said didnt make sense and was just you speculating. basically similar to the sort of things youd here when you walk by a homeless man on the street yelling at the air in front of his face

Trey will beat this, and most likely continue to over-charging people to see him either solo or with his band, and make mediocre, bland music until he finally gives it up.

OR he could find some new inspiration in the 'hab, then reunite with Phish and play some new songs for us. That won't happen though. It just won't.

First off, I am that guy who lives on street corners and I make a damn good living off people like you who give me money to shut me up thankyouverymuch. second, I was semi high when I was writing so I yea, it wasn't very cohesive, so what? Third, there was a rise in psychadelic drug price immediately after phish broke up due to the lack of availability. Forth, there has not been a single multi day music festival in the U.S. devoted to a single, headlining band that has topped the attendance of phish's last show. Fifth, the government keeps close tabs on scores of musicians and movie stars who are considered "subversive," it's not like that's any big secret anymore. I'd be suprised if the government didn't keep tabs on what Phish were doing because of the large number of people involved. No, I dont really think they hooked trey on crack, that was supposed to be funny. Ha ha. But you'd be kidding yourself if you thought that they didn't keep tabs on what he was doing. Sixth, if you have spent any time at all in the music business you would find that DRUGS DO NOT MAKE ARTISTS PREFORM BETTER. This is a shocker to lots of people I know and due to it's image based nature, lot's of muscians will try to give the appearence that they preform high but remember, it's a business and it's they're job to put on a good show. I've tried preforming high at a party once and it was terrible. And finally, why are you such a douchebag? I'm not stupid (just kind of crazy). If I went into the details of everything I said I'd end up with posts as long as this one.
