One in 10 Russians Say Their Special Services Killed Litvinenko

Dec. 16 (Bloomberg) -- One in 10 Russians think their own special forces killed Alexander Litvinenko, a former Russian spy who died in London Nov. 23 of apparent poisoning by radioactive polonium 210, an independent public opinion poll showed.

The Moscow-based Levada Center asked 1,600 Russians between Dec. 8-12 who had killed Litvinenko. Some 20 percent said it was his former business partners; 15 percent said Boris Berezovsky, a billionaire businessman who fell out with President Vladimir Putin and now lives in exile in London; and 10 percent said it was Russian special services.

Some 13 percent said they didn't know anything about the case and 26 percent termed the question ``difficult to answer.''

Another eight percent blamed Western special services, the same number who thought Litvinenko accidentally contaminated himself while transporting radioactive material. One percent said it was suicide, according to the poll, which was published yesterday on the Levada Center's Web site.

Officers from London's Metropolitan Police are in Moscow to investigate Litvinenko's death, which they are treating as murder. Litvinenko himself blamed Putin for his poisoning in a statement shortly before he died. The Kremlin has denied any involvement, as has Berezovsky.

Having lived in Russia I could tell you it turned into a shithole...well most parts of it anyways. The people there are very afraid of their gov't and the country as a whole isnt doing well at all. The people are very suspicious of their gov't, fearing it being tampered greatly by organized crime, which it is.

I could have done without that comment, too, Blue Cat. And I often find myself wishing people would be more respectful and courteous of other cultures here as well. In other parts of the board, comments such as that wouldn't be tolerated, but this is the politics area, where a more lax attitude about courtesy/insulting comments reigns. The politics and sexuality boards are the two areas of this forum where the rules of courtesy and language aren't quite the same as they are in the other areas. It doesn't always make sense to me, and we still occasionally ask people to tone things down here, but just be aware that politics is a slightly different animal from the other boards. This was even put to a vote a few months back, and the results of the vote were to have the rules in this forum be more relaxed than they are in others. (I voted in the minority--and it was actually a fairly close decision, as I recall.) Hope this helps explain things!

My friend Bimac teaches Geology at Western he is sikh and wears a turban. I have never met a nicer person. He and his family would do anything to help anyone. The Arabs are of the same "race" as myself: Indo-European. I had some genetic tests done, and my Y-DNA type is associated with people from the Middle East and Southern Europe. The Y-DNA is the straight male line, going back many thousands of years. Even though my recent ancestry is from Northern Europe, they apparently migrated during the Neolithic Expansion and settled in the Germanic lands.

Most people from Northern India also have Indo-European genetic markers.

So, how can I be a "racist" if I am of the same race as most of the people that I am critical of?

That is as "racist" a definition of a Southerner as they come! Do a search on this board for the word "redneck" and you'll see countless examples of people using the word, which certainly is a slur. Why is "raghead" worse? Why should Arabs receive special treatment, when American Southern people, and other Americans have open season declared on them - by the Arabs as well as everybody else. If one group is exempt, THAT is "racism".

Although I am no "offended" by Foxworthy and the other "redneck" comedians, I do not think that they are funny.

Again, if you do some research you'll find that Arabs and Northern Indians are of the same "race" as most Americans: Indo-European. There are only five races, and various mixtures of them:

Native American
East Asian
Indo-European
Sub-Saharan African

If a Chinese person says something like, "Those stinking Japs are taking over the world!", he is talking about a different nationality, not a different race.

BTW, I live in a city with about 150 nationalities, including ALL races - and I love the diversity that NYC offers. I do not like people that hate, and I'm proud of that. Having been across the street from the WTC the first time they bombed it, and in the vicinity on 9/11, is not something that endears you to the cultures and religion that produced the savage lowlifes that carried out these, and other, attacks.

So I got a six - the average person gets a seven. The Asians themseves probably don't score much better than average.

What is this supposed to prove? Unless they are wearing special clothing, I probably wouldn't do much better if they showed pictures of Polish, English and German people and asked you to guess which nationality they were. Basically, they are ALL THE SAME, just as the Asians are. The Polish, and other Eastern Europeans, often have some more "Slavic" features - which may be from ancient Asian genetics. Most other Europan nationalities have some of this also, to some extent.


I've got all kinds of Asians in my neighborhood and they're fine neighbors. So are the Middle Easterners, and many, many other people. The key thing is that they try to assimilate into America.

This phenomenon is against nature - and the result is racism, warfare, and exclusionary practices.

The reason that I hated the "diversity" programs, and affirmative action, at my jobs in New York is because most of the people that benefited would never reciprocate - once they got in a position, the only people that they would help were their "own kind". As I said earlier I enjoy real diversity, such as the varioius immigrant cultures, and that's the main reason I've stayed in New York.

Many of the world's problems probably never would have happened if the ancient people had not run out of psychedelic plants, due to various historically accurate climatic conditions, and other reasons. Thse plants broke down primitive, animal instincts and replaced them with advanced tribal customs and intellectual power - otherwise we never would have evolved. Terrence McKenna ("The Archaic Revival", "Food of the Gods", "True Hallucnations", etc.) has some very interesting theories about this.
