What type of pipe works best with ganja?

I've seen a lot of different types.. Wood, glass, stone, etc. I've started smoking pretty regularly and I'm getting kinda tired of rolling (horrible looking) jays. What kind of pipe smokes the best and what features should I keep my eyes open for?

Glass pipe. With a fat carb. Nice design. Color changing is a plus. Thick glass too.

I love glass pipes.
They are really easy to clean and last forever if you get a good one.
Look for one with the thickest glass you can possibly find.
Mine has fallen on cement and not broken. It sucks to lose a piece that you've been carrying around in your pocket [purse, in my case, lol] like a little buddy for months.

glass is overated i prefer certain wooden pipes as they add a nice flavor
metal is o.k but not great

I've got my eye on a certain wooden pipe (from lord of the rings :D).. I guess my question is, do pipes waste ganja as opposed to smoking a joint, and do wooden ones perform any less than say a glass one?

Other way round. As you smoke the joint.. look at all that smoke going AWAY.... the pipe doesn't stay lit and you get every last puff that was in there.

Long- stemmed pipes are neat and smoke nicely but a bit harder to stuff in your pocket without damaging them

I would think that wood would be harder to clean than glass. I dont know that for a fact though

Well I haven't tried any pipe other than a homemade metal pipe and a glass and I have to say glass is way better. The only thing you taste is the weed. If you don't have enough weed in the bowl though you might taste some of the fumes or w/e from the lighter.

Yeah but my metal homemade was so shitty I couldn't tell what I was tasting. Now it's so good with the glass it's obvious if it's not the weed it's the lighter I'm tasting :p.

glass is the best for sure. also, i definitely don't think wood pipes would clean as easy, soaking them in rubbing alcohol would probably damage it. glass pipes however can be cleaned that way super easily.

ya id definitely go with glass, me personally do not like metal pipes.. and ive never smoked outta a wood pipe.. but i really like smoking outta glass so im gonna say get glass

When I smoke out of glass pipes I feel like a crack head. Metal pipes too. I think you should just save up your money and buy a bong =]

For carrying around, I have a couple of little carved stone pipes from Mexico. They were cheap and they hold up pretty well- I have a little chip in one from dropping it on cement, but you can hardly see it. I would worry about breaking a glass one unless it was a bong at home. I actually wanted to get one for my husband for christmas since our old one isn't great.

im a glass man...metal heats up quickly which burns your fingers...but i have a lil metal guitar bowl that doesnt heat up, dont know why but im not complaing.

for pipes i saw get some thick ass glass piece, since its ur first piece, nothing too artsy or expensive just somehitng to get the job done, nice clean hit and solid, then move up once u have had that for a hiwle

Aha! A properly rolled joint will never waste any weed.

It's the art of getting the joint to stop smoking when your not hitting it, but leaving it burning ever so slightly so it doesnt go out, then you get no waste. That's how i can roll 45 minute joints out of one normal king size paper... while everyone else is rolling like 15 minute ones..

Big glass advocate here.

Several things to consider;


1) The dimensions of the bowl itself. If you mostly smoke alone, you dont need a bowl that could accomodate a full gram.

2) Distance from the bottom of the bowl to the bottom of the pipe. If this area is too small. its gonna clog. alot. I like a bowl with a "fat" end. and plenty of breathing room around the bowl.. it fills with more smoke this way anyway.

3) I never thought this mattered-- but it does.. Carb on left side or right. Try both to see what feels better.. and make sure the carb isnt poorly positioned, eg. too close to the bowl, those thumb burns suck.

Glass, seriously. As most said, glass is just... convenient.

One thing I noticed between the two bongs I own: The acrylic/metal slider bong (melvin) and my precious glass beauty bong (pandora) used to be equally good quality... and then melvin began to break a bit. The metal slide also would heat up a LOT and it was annoying, and was difficult to clean. Glass bongs (or pipes) are awesome because they're easy to clean and they don't heat up as fast. Pandora's been around for months now, and nothing's wrong with her :)

i think it's safe to go with glass. i started out with a metal bowl and i hated it. granted you can break it down to clean it, but once i tried a glass bowl i just got rid of the metal one. plus, cleaning glass is so much easier and personally i think that it tastes way better! as for wood, i've never even thought to try it.
