I thought id start a thread on floyd not for the fact that their my favorite band but because there always associated with stoners and the wizard of oz and whatever. plus ive seen alot of people on this site say that they like and listen to floyd. and in duppy mans sig he has the lyrics to "free four" an awesome floyd song from one of my fav albums obscured by clouds. my fav. floyd albums are obscured by clouds, division bell, wish you were here and pipers at the gates of dawn. there are many more flawless floyd albums but those are my favoritres. im not that much of a fan of the wall and darkside because there overplayed and everybody thinks there a floyd fan because they've herd those 2 albums. well post your thoughts, opinions or whatever the hell you want about pink floyd. peace

Wish You Were Here is my anthem when I'm stone; and even though Dark Side is extremely popular, it is so for a good reason, it's one of the great albums of all time, by any band. I really like Meddle too, every song on that album is amazing, especially Echoes. To tell the truth, I love absolutely everything made before The Wall, cause in my mind that when Roger Waters went off the deep end and declared himself the band's dictator... but before then, is all great :D

yea dude echoes rocks and i think set the controlls for the heart of the sun is on meddle to aswel as fearless great song. have you ever seen that live in pompei video that was kool. yea i personally like david gilmour alot more than roger coz when he abondoned the band after the final cut. that album was ok.. the fletcher memorial home is awesome. "and now adding colour a group of annonymous latin american meat packing gliterati" priceless lyrics.

I have the video Live at Pompei... Now THAT'S something to watch when you're stoned. BTW, Set the Controls [...] is not on Meddle, it's on Umma Gumma or A Saucerful of Secrets or both...

best song title ever: Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving With a Pict

Also a little known fact about Floyd's early touring days;

Howard Marks aka Mr.Nice smuggled moxy loads of cannabis into America in their speakers (the band however were oblivious to this) :D

I really like "Momentary Lapse Of reason", just one of those LP's that you can lose yourself in.

lol..and when it finishes, you go, "Yeah, man,...that was awesome!" lol

From "The Wall", I like most of the more obscure tracks..."Comfortably Numb", and "The Show Must Go On" - the lyrics of the latter kinda tells my story :(

Comfortably Numb is not obscure at all. After Money and Another Brick in the Wall II, it's the Floyd sond I hear most on the radio.

my favorite floyd songs are: (in order)

wearing the inside out, keep talking, comfortably numb, bike, and time -- but there are so many (that are fucking excellent) its hard to narrow it down any further.

The Show Must Go On" - the lyrics of the latter kinda tells my story :(

aw thats sad.
but you arent too old and its not too late.
the show will go on

"There must be some mistake, I never meant to let them take away my soul..."
lol

...music has saved me so many times, and continues to do so...

sometimes music has caused me to get worse.. when i would use it to deepen my depression and fall into self pity..

but once you get past all of the depressing music.. into some more uplifting stuff, id agree with you.. its saved me as well. pink floyd although they do have sad tones, overall they uplift me far more than anything.

To me, nothing's as trippy Echoes. smoke a giant bowl, close your eyes, and blast it. By the time you get to the 'whale' music, you won't where you are anymore :)

I fuckin love Pink Floyed. your right reefer rouge, every body claims to be a fan if they've heard those two albums, but I'm not gonna lie, Dark Side and The Wall are still my favorites, along with the Division Bell. Whats better than driving on the highway with a doobie listening to Comfortably Numb? nothing. well a few things but not much.

Speaking of which you guys ever heard stories on their concerts. One story that comes to mind is that they used to put acid in their sweatbands while they we're performing and they would taste the sweat as it poured onto their faces.

i heard of that but i thought that was jimi hendrix not pink floyd.. yea i love pre darkside floyd. if you really wanna trip listening to floyd while your stoned listen to atom heart mother (the album with the cow) and the first song when it gets 10 minutes in the funky dung part, that part is amazing. if you guys havent heard early floyd then definately check it out. albums like relics, more, obscures by clouds , a saucerful of secrets etc. yea my fav songs are probably: shine on you crazy diamond, echoes, set the controlls for the heart of the sun and confortably numb. if you like comfortably numb then you'll love the version on the pulse album that guitar solo is so kick ass.

most of the early floyd as you all probably know was written by Sid Barret whilst on a cocktail of drugs but mainly LSD and that is one of the best ways to listen to the floyd...trippin I had a weird trip watching live at Pompeii at the cinema totally freaked me out...

Reefer Rogue

division bell is pink floyd its just that roger waters isnt there and i think gilmour did a hell of a job on vocals as well as his awesome guitar solos. wasnt sid only wiht pink floyd on pipers except that doctor song (waters sang that) and maybe 1 or 2 songs on a saucerful of secrets?

shine on you crazy diamond will always be my favourite tune as it seems to mean so many things and wish you were here would be my funeral song!

duppy man
11-17-2004, 06:19 PM
sid was with the band up till about 67 when he was replaced by dave gillmour who was a old friend of sids by which time sids brain was fried with acid

wish you were here would be my funeral song!

Nethie, you read my mind... I've thought about that a few times, how that song would be an amazing ode to a departed loved one...

I don't know what took me so long to post here...anyway, yeah, Pink Floyd is the reason I made it through high school. It saved me somehow...anyway, listened to "Wish You Were Here" over and over from, like, ages 16-20 all because I thought, "We're just two lost souls swimmin' in a fish bowl" was the best line ever in a love song. Oh, brother. Anyway, yep have most all of the cd's...and fuck Fred Durst for trying to remake a Floyd song, he needs to stick his ideas back up his ass where they came from. And raise your hand if you know someone who's only remote knowledge of Pink Floyd is what they call the "We Don't Need No Education" song. Those kinds of ppl are why I tend to dislike the masses.

And I still think David Gillmore is hot. :p

I think Korn redid that not Fred Durst. God I hate Fred Durst. I saw him a year ago at a local radio concert. He started talking shit about Chicago and our local morning radio personality Mancow. Well he got booed offstage then Metallica Played which is why I was at that concert to begin with

yea i cant stand those people mjm plus there seem to be so many of them lol. me and my friend would always see kids in darkside or the wall tshirts and wed always be like DARKSIDE!! or THE WALL!!!! to them and theyd give us the dirtiest looks it was hilarious.

kr1Nx01
11-18-2004, 04:29 PM
speaking of mancow.... is he fscking with everyone or is it me? two days ago al roker jr. had an "episode... ALMOST a heart attack" and today staci gets arrested for committing federal theft against turd? LMAO the cop's like "are you STACI HARRISON?!?"

so i guess everyone officially knows her whole name now...

but yeah it seems like all this shite that's happening is for a ratings booster... a "stunt" of sorts. it seems so fake-spontanious, like someone who enters their surprise party and know's the surprise is coming.
