Man to serve 55 years in prison for marijuana
Last week, the U.S. Supreme Court let stand the mandatory 55-year prison sentence that a lower court imposed on a man who was convicted of carrying a handgun during three marijuana deals in Utah.
By refusing to hear the case, the U.S. Supreme Court ensured that 27-year-old Weldon Angelos will spend just about the rest of his life behind bars for selling three eight-ounce bags of marijuana to an undercover informant.
As his attorneys noted, the sentence he will serve is harsher than the sentence for raping a child ?? or the sentence for detonating a bomb aboard an aircraft.
Even the federal judge who was required to issue the mandatory minimum sentence called it ??unjust, cruel, and even irrational.? Yet, the U.S. Supreme Court let the sentence stand without comment. You can read more about this abrogation of justice here.
More examples of unjust punishment....
1. Mitchell Lawrence: This 17-year-old high school student with no prior record received a two-year prison sentence for selling $20 worth of marijuana to a Massachusetts undercover police officer.
2. Unnamed Florida college student: The 19-year-old was raped by his cellmate ?? a violent sexual offender ?? as he served the first of four weekend sentences for delivering marijuana, a felony offense.
3. Ryan Wilson: The 22-year-old died after being shot with a Taser stun gun by Colorado police, who were investigating whether Wilson was cultivating marijuana plants.
4. Anthony Diotaiuto: The 23-year-old was shot 10 times in the head, chest, and limbs by a Florida SWAT team that later found a little over an ounce of marijuana in his home.
5. Clayton Helriggle: The 23-year-old died in the arms of his roommate after being shot in a ??no knock? raid by Ohio police, who later found a small amount of marijuana in his house.
6. Jonathan Magbie: The 27-year-old quadriplegic died in a Washington, D.C., jail while serving a 10-day sentence for marijuana possession because the facility could not provide the medical care he needed.
7. Tyrone Brown: The 33-year-old received a life sentence from a Texas judge for testing positive for marijuana while on probation for a $2 stickup committed when he was 17.
8. Lester Siler: The 44-year-old was brutalized by five rogue Tennessee police officers who suspected him of selling drugs. Siler was beaten and held at gunpoint, had his head held underwater in a toilet, and was threatened with shooting and electrocution.

I sometimes wonder if the authorities have some type of control over the sales (or the amount of sales) of pot or they focus more closely on sales of pot because pot makes most people think out of the box or expand the minds, which would make the authorities difficult to control society. I mean, I look around my neighborhood and other hard drugs (that doesn't make you question or think about anything going on around them) are easily available but pot has been very difficult to find. I don't know...I just think it's odd.
yes, i posted something like that in the polls. i think a big reason weed and the harmless hallucinegons are illegal is because they promote independent thought and i think the governmenth hates independent thought

this shit really makes me sick. before i was looking at penalties for marijuana related crimes, that made me sick too.. It is a god damn plant, that doesn't harm people, is not addictive, and there is no violence involved with it really.. If you look at the list from the November Coalition, some of that shit makes me sick, I mean really really pisses me off. All the assholes on it that are in jail for crap like coke, meth, x, etc.., I could give a shit less, they deserve to die.. but i saw one guy there, 20 year sentence for conspiracy to sell marijuana.. 20 YEARS for not even selling marijuana. cops tried to set him up and he didn't go for it so it turned into conspiracy charge... that just has to be the stupidest thing i have ever heard...

I think these DEA agents and judges must truely feel marijuana is as wrong and sinful as rape when you see just how pissed they get that people smoke it. How they came to be that way is beyond me.

I am so grateful to be living in a State that is forward thinking enough to legalize medical marijuana. I may be a pot head stoner but I also use marijuana to relieve my extremely bad migraine headaches and arthritis.
Even before I got legal, the punishment for marijuana here is minimal to say the least.
it was for having a gun on him at the time of the sales. that is the more to the story part really. obviously a gun wouldnt normally get you fifty years

and the judge had no choice, the guy was guilty and it was the minimum sentence. the supreme court had the opportunity and authority to change the sentence, or even put the law itself on trial, but they refused to hear it. i would guess that the justices appointed by bush didnt help this guy

injustice is prevalent today... I myself have no need to carry a piece... If selling pot required me to carry a piece, needless to say,,,I would not do it...
You need to know the laws in your state and act appropriately... In my mind he was guilty of ignorance...

yeah these sentances are fucking ridicules, recently in australia we had a guy who was convicted of raping a 5 yr old girl, he only got 3 years in prison (eligible for probation after 1.5 years), whereas a pot dealer recently got about 5 years,
(though interesting about the fucking rapist, he lived in a small town, everyone knew the father of the girl and the rapist, shortly after he was arrested his house burned down and people were celibrating outside, including the girls father, police and fire dept said it started by natural causes and have ruled out any possibility of arson, gotta love Australia)

It's time to fight back.. Get high up connections and get names..
Boondock saints style.
But what do I care.. I'm not in the US, and that shit doesn't happen where I'm at. Atleast to my knowledge:rolleyes:
And this is why this world is a joke, and everyone who thinks someone should actually be imprisoned for 55 years for some weed should be killed.
They said it themselves, rapists get less jail time. Muders get 25 years... WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH AMERICA?
Ahhh, im gunner stop now cos im getting into a fucking mood now... for fuck sake this is a piss take, what the fuck is going through peoples minds... WHY do people pay tax when this is what the government cunts do with it.

WHY do people pay tax when this is what the government cunts do with it.
Because they are too lazy to actually do something about it.
People will dwell in misery because it is familiar, they are afraid of change. That is why the world is so slow to change. People believe the lies because it is easier.
I took this quote from somewhere in my past;
"When the pain of staying the same becomes greater than the fear of change, people will change."

He sold three, eight ounce bags of weed to an undercover cop. When dealing with that much weed you would want to have a gun with you, its not like he was dealing an eighth or something. If I was carrying that much weed with intention of selling it I would consider using a gun as protection not intention of killing someone though.

3/8 isnt not alot of bud. Infact, it's a stupidly small amount of bud. If i was selling it i wouldnt have to carry a gun...

lip he wasn't saying 3/8 of an oz, he was saying he sold 3 bags of weed that weighed 8 ozs each, or 24 ozs total.
