Does anyone think the seedlings would like this, if I let it come to room temperature? There's probably some good fish poop in the bottom of the pond!
Don't bother. It's no better than tap water and may cause problems. Don't make this harder than it has to be. Use tap water.
NOTE: DON'T use tap water IF your tap water is UNFIT to drink.

Composting is fun and profitable. Why not add the fish ditrius to a compost generating process. That would be some good humus.

You're right, and we do have a compost pile- whenever we muck out the pond we toss it all in- my veg garden was great this year!

If you chop up the Koi you could make an excellent fish emulsion:eek:
Just kidding - LM you should not use your fish to fertilize with...use your neighbors fish:D

Also, when you clean your filter, do an initial ceanin of the media is a tub of clean water, and use the resutant gradoo filled soup to water. "semi-digested fish emulsion"

And tap water should be checked before using. A simple, quick and cheap ph test kit is available at most nurseries and is highly recommended. My water tests consistantly above 9.0 and would be a plant killer if it wasn't amended. The same goes for rain water. Not often but sometimes it can be highly acidic, especially if forest fire smoke fed the storm clouds. It's always good to periodically check the water supply.

ABOVE 9.0????
i have one thing to say... i have had training to do stream surveys and the water has to be at the right PH level for fish to live... other then contaminates... i would say the fish pond water would be fine... (the stream PH level is right around 7... witch is pretty good for fish to live{but then again, i don't know jack shit about growing, and i was just looking around for some pointers} just my 2 cents)
