Greetings. I will be arriving in Vancouver on the 29 december. Im hoping to find work as a journalist. Does anyone have any advice for me about housing, cost of living etc.. Also is weed easy to come by over there and if so what are the prices. I dont fancy getting robbed by some joker of a dealer. Thanks in advance.

Hey there, I live in Vancouver too! First off, the cost of housing is pretty expensive but it depends on where exactly you are going to move. I live close to downtown Vancity and I pay $1000/month for a one bedroom, 750 square foot apartment in a really good area. The actual cost of living is pretty cheap IMO. As for weed prices, I can tell you that I usually pay between $40-$50 for a quarter ounce. You can find stuff for cheaper though, and of course you can always find super-good stuff that is much more expensive.

Cheers for the heads up man. I noticed Downtown was fairly pricey. Is east Vancouver a rough area. The prices seem alot cheaper. Those prices are unreal. Over here its about 100 euro(150 dollors) for a quarter.

East Van can be a rough area, but it depends on exactly where you go there. If you look around the commercial drive area or east broadway, prices are a lot cheaper and the area isn't nearly as bad. I mean, it's not the greatest, but I know 2 people who live around there and they're liking it just fine. The one lives in a 4 bedroom house at commercial drive and 11th avenue and it is only $1200/month to rent. That's super cheap. She has lived there almost 3 years now and enjoys it.

Well if your moving here for a long time you will have no trouble finding bud. Living hear you practically have to slap dealers off of you.

But if you are just stopping in town a few things you should know:
-you will be approached on the street several times while you’re here. I do no suggest buying from these people as it is probably laced!

-it may be hard to break the surface of the cannabis culture and find good sources. You may want to try going to UBC and asking around as students are very cautious of buying laced weed. So no one sells it out there.

Some interesting things about Vancouver:

The price of weed you buy is reflective of not only quality but the quality of service from the dealer.
-From low end dealers who done know their strains you could pick up a ¼ at 40$ bucks and probably get some decent shit.
-The high end ¼’s are up to 85$ but, come with within the hour to your door delivery. A selection of at least 4 strains and 2 kinds of hash, and a thorough knowledge of the taste, stone, enjoyment level, type of activities that will be most enjoyable, how it was grown, any abnormalities in the smell taste or smoke; when compared to norm of this strain. Its pretty crazy. In fact I’ve heard that the mayor actually supports this growing company (As only one gives this kind of service) and has given them impunity from the law.

-I call them a company because well they control every aspect of the bud (from seeds to sales). They have hours of operation 1pm-11pm. And have several employees who “traffic”. It’s really quite amazing. If they legalize it we’ll probably be worse off.

hey if you want to learn more about vancity's culture check out the grow lounge. I started a thread about power consumption in growing and it ended up talking all about vancouver.

As well, if your moving to bc, you should just grow your own. it will be very simple to do as you can buy every single part from friendly people who will answer all your questions (but not ask any). And you dont have to pretend it's for tomatos

All the advice is much appreciated. Ill proably only be in Vancouver for three months if i dont find a job with a newspaper or radio station. Ive never had laced weed. What does it taste/smell like.

I dunno what laced weed is like either...but you would be able to tell by the difference in psychoactive properties, rather than the taste or smell. Just don't buy weed off of a random street corner- that's bad news. Try what Harris said and go to the university and look for weed there- you won't be disappointed.

I book i'm reading right now is called "bud inc" it's about Canadas Cannabis industry (how great it is) most of the book is set in BC and more specifically in Vancouver because it is the bud capital of canada.

This book goes quite deep into the Cannabis sub culture, Naming big dealers/activists this one guy sells out of an office. You should consider reading that book on the flight over, it'll give you a good idea of what it's like here.

It's more crazy for me to read it because when they write about the Cannabis Mafia who operates around Cambie and HAstings I've fucking met them. And there not particularly nice. So nuts

i've never had laced weed, but it is always a possibility. Just go with your feelings, dont like the dealer dont buy. Take a look at the bud, if it's good bud it wont be laced, cuz it dosn't need to be.

And i'm loving the "bud inc" book, you should totaly pick it up
