im not entirely sure, but i think my phone lines are tapped. i dont make many phone calls (i use the internet to set up stuff) but when i do call someone i eventually hear this funny ass noise, like a click kind of. last week they were doing some phone line work outside of my house and they installed a box that connects my phone line to the main phone line or w/e. this box is on no other poles nor anywhere that i have seen outside of people houses or anywhere else for that matter.
can they tap my lines? nobody in my house was ever notified of anything or else i would have known. ive signed no paperwork saying that they could, nobody has and i was wondering if they could get away with this.
if they are breaking the law by tapping my lines can i find out who did it and sue them?

I don't know why you think your phone line is tapped, but if it is they don't need to tell you, they just need a warrent to do so.

If they want to tap your phone all they have to do is flip a switch at the phone company. With the new laws it is even easier than ever.

You would not hear a thing on your phone. No one is going to tell you if your phone is tapped.

If you are worried about it, assume it is and act accordingly.

wire tapping is invasion of privacy unless you have done some crazy ass things they cant do it probabaly even wit a special warrent because thats agains the constituition.
but hey the U.S Laws these days... you will probabaly start seeing crazy things like giving tickets for baggy pants >.>

Dude, they could DEFINITELY have your wire tapped, especially if you're on probation. Doesn't the Patriot Act pretty much say that phone lines can be tapped for any reason or no reason at all without a warrant?

lol, the patriot act... God. I honestly do not understand how you American's stood by and watched the Bush admin. take your freedom away. If it was me, I'd be fighting that to the core. You guy's have a good country, and It's worth fighting for.

MastaChronic. Do what my buddy did when the piggy's tapped his line. Call your phone service, and ask them, "Is there any outside connection to my phoneline, or has there been any activity other than incoming and outgoing calls?"

When my buddy asked, they simply replied "yes", but couldn't identify what it was. Turn's out they were recording his calls, and he wasn't even doing anything! They thought he was part of some dealer ring around the area, when infact he was just buying off one of the guys that was.

The cops can do almost anything they want now. The patriot act is way too large to cover here.

Do some research on it. It is huge.

"Sneak and peek" has been used to bust dealers. All they need is an okay from a judge. They can go into your house and look around. Without a warrant.

It was supposed to be for terrorist. However cops can twist this law by saying you are dangerous, getting permission, gathering evidence and then getting a warrant.

I am sure you have heard the connection between drugs and terrorists.

If a cop wants you they can twist any law they want.

Research the Patriot act.

Assume they can and act accordingly.

I need a little help with the patriot act... My father always replies that he doesn't care. He's not doing anything illegal, why should he care that they can tap his phone? Only criminals care.

How do I respond to this without making any allusion to drug use or?

Thats some fucking record. Sounds like you've got to watch your ass. I doubt your phone is tapped, but regardles.. you mind elaborating on any of them? Specifically the 2 marijuana posessions and especially the 1 reckless burning lol..

asked a lawyer friend the only ones that can tap a phone (even with the pat. act) are federal agents (FBI CIA NSA) local cops can't. and for them to do that there has to be at least a vague (or made up) federal crime. local laws are out of the jurisd. of the feds. But it still sounds a little fishy. throw a water baloon at it ;)
