Totalitarianism is a term employed by political scientists, especially those in the field of comparative politics, to describe modern regimes in which the state regulates nearly every aspect of public and private behavior. The most influential scholars of totalitarianism, such as Karl Popper, Hannah Arendt, Carl Friedrich, Zbigniew Brzezinski, and Juan Linz have each described totalitarianism in a slightly different way. Common to all definitions is the attempt to mobilize entire populations in support of the state and a political or religious ideology, and the intolerance of activities which are not directed towards the goals of the state, such as involvement with labour unions, non-sanctioned churches or opposition political parties. Totalitarian regimes maintain themselves in political power by means of single-party state, secret police, propaganda disseminated through the state-controlled mass media, personality cult, regulation and restriction of free discussion and criticism, the use of mass surveillance, and widespread use of terror tactics (political purges and persecution of specific groups of people).
Critics of the concept contend that the term lacks explanatory power. They argue that governments which may be classified as totalitarian often lack characteristics said to be associated with the term. They may not be as monolithic as they appear from the outside, if they incorporate several groups, such as the army, political leaders, industrialists, which compete for power and influence [1]. In this sense, these regimes may exhibit pluralism through the involvement of several groups in the political process.[

There was a thread like this before.
I think were more like Tolerantism (just made that word up) because to protect the rights and safety of millions of people would probably be a hard task to do if the people could just go around saying and doing what they really wanted. To accomplish the whole entirety of the word freedom would be a hard task to swallow. So I guess we get the job done?
I don't know.

not yet but were getting close. we need to wake up before its too late. pretty soon there will be cameras on every corner, everyone will have a national id card and government organizations will have access to all your information including medical records at the touch of a button. with more and more the added laws that restrict core freedoms and the right to privacy, individualism and personal liberties will be a thing of the past if we dont take action. sounds paranoid i know but its not that far out really.

Freedom is a very fragile and personal thing. It grows from understanding, understanding that another persons freedom is as important to them as is yours to you. When all people view freedom this way, then will freedom ring!

democracy wont work if we're asleep, or watching football, then baseball, then soccer, then hockey, then basketball, , work, etc etc.
Keep us busy, keep us occupied, and we dont have any time or eyes to watch whats really important.
It's almost as if were planned this way.
capitalist know exaclty what they are doing and they spend money to find out what we are doing and what takes our attention away from them.

Yup, TV, and sports are the drug for the masses, along with Religion. It's amazing how many people live for their sport teams and really don't pay attention to what is going on around them. A very small percentage of people are even interested in politics, they find it boring, even though it inevitably controls their lives! If the majority of people were aware of what is really going on, I think there would be an uprising of mass proportions!

I was watching a documentary about the healthcare of those who worked at the wtc, they are mostly sick now(after being told air was safe), and they went to dc to ask why funding for them was being taken away.
These were firemen/woman, police, ambulance drivers, paramedics, etc etc, and as they walked the halls of congress and tried to speak with congressional members, the congressional members blew them off and wouldnt even stop to talk to them.
Many of Those who worked the site are now....
dead from suicide/results of cleanup site
out of work with no healthcare
addicted to drugs
disabled
sick
homeless.
Now? they are being ignored by the media(who imo helped cover up the truth about 9-11), ignored by their government, and from what i can see, ignored by the majority of the population.
To conclude...
the united states government is a murdering entity that is willing to lie to its people, kill its people, and ignore its people.
The peoples response?
who won the game?
did you see shaq?
the lions suck
wait till next year
i'm a bruins fan
etc etc......

I worked a few blocks from the WTC site and avoided going in the streets of downtown NYC as much as possible for at least a month after 9/11 - but these workers were right in the thick of it. The streets around Ground Zero were blocked off, and lower Broadway was closed for a long time, to keep pedestrians away from the site. There were areas burning for weeks, or maybe longer. There was a big cloud, from the fires, over Manhattan for a very long time.
People were not thinking properly because of the shock and importance of rescue efforts. If they had realized the dangers, they all would have worn protective equipment. It is inexcusable that the authorities did not provide masks, or at least warned them about the dangers of exposure to the toxins.

Christine Whitman, head of the EPA(enviromental protection agency..aka...your government, and mine) said, "the air and water are fine"
not true.
Burning for weeks? thats sounds more like a chemical fire, not one of brick, steel, and plumbing. Thats sounds like a planned event.
My best friend works @ 120 wall Street and was on her way to Century 21 when our government attacked its people.

Regarding the variety of materials that were in the area of the WTC: Just about everything possible was blown to smithereens. Of course there were oils, chemicals, gas, building materials, etc. It was like a whole small city went up, with the resulting disasters. Since nothing of this magnitude ever happened before, it was unpredictable.
One thing that was predicted was the collapse. I met an architect on the way home, on 9/11, and he told me that they would collapse straight down because the buildings' support was destroyed by the heat.
