Looking for the most lumins or PAR readings at the canopy..
Small SOG area... I had a Horolux Hood... I don't think they still make them.

2 good ones I know of...

Check specs on these...

1) PL Lights reflectors/air cooled hood

2) the LR 1000 hood. I don't know much about these but look at Tranoble's 3lbs a light thread in the grow room forum and you will get the info.

Check into SolarMax 1000 watt bulbs.. More lumens than hortilux and cheaper too. 147,000 lumens I believe...

They claim to beat the PL hood but the study was done in 2000
I thought Hydrofarm would have a contender...
Sunsystems?

i hve a cool sun reflector hood by sun system which is pretty big; 2 of them cover my 7' x 9' room.

I like the parabolic hoods, 4 ft diameter each and as far as I know the Hortilux has the most lum output.

Thanks for the link Flower child. I love my PL hoods because they are top quality but after checking out Tranoble's grow I am going to be switching to the bell industries air cooled 1000 watt hoods for my next purchase. They don't require the inner reflector and I can use a 4 inch fan to cool them instead of my 6 inch I use now.

Peace,Love,Jay

I had the luminarc III by diamond lights... excellent output (co. changed hands) for a radient hood looks like the way to go... I use a computor fan (air curtain) mounted on the edge of the hood to keep the heat off the girls... glass eats light.

in a 3x3 space you will need a cooltube for a 1 kw bulb if you want the space to be cool enough to grow. you will have over 100watts per sqft which is great but it will create a heat problem if not done proberly ie. cooltube.

That is the best point made so far Justaseed.

Thanx Justa.... but I guess you have never used an "air curtian" before...
I have... they work fine without glass... preseves lumins!

I sure if you had the curtains plus a very powerful fan plus AC you should be fine you should run some test before putting your babie underneath 1000W

Consider the fact that MJ fries at 10,000 foot candles so no matter what hood you buy you will need to keep it at a height that the plants won't burn at. So consider your budget and add in a light meter so you can set you lamps at the proper height.

If $ is a concern I say go cheap ans set your light lower with fans blowing off an heat that the air cool hood doesnt eliminate. 24 inches is as close as you want to go per Jose Cervantes.
The LR-1000 by bell lighting is not big at all!!!!!!!! It is powder coated to eliminate the need for an internal reflector that PL uses.

I am actually looking at 3 600 (1800)watt instead of 2 1000(2000) watt lights. they can be placed evenly and since I am pruning and growing 2-3 main colas It should yeild more...

do you have a light meter? the glass will cause you to lose less than 1% of the light the bulb puts out.

Honestly I really like Daystar A/C if your doing a smaller area. They are a smaller hood but have straight through 6" flanges and a nicely polished reflector. I use them with 600 digitals but they are "technically" made for 1000 watts. Very nice light spread for 3x3.

Caljay & Justa... thanx for your imput....and yes I have a Apogee PAR meter and I'm trying to achieve around 1100-1200 (µmol m-2 s-1) in a real even pattern for single cola per stem sog (an old moderator at CW was able to get 1/4-1/2 oz buds in 60 days... ten days veg from rooting)... and my records show u can lose up to 6% (usable light) with even thin pyrex... the luminarc III for 128 bucks delivers a nice squair pattern.. and according to the tests... (with a 400 mind you) the most PAR... I haven't seen a similarly priced hood that can get that much light on the 3x3 target... and air/water cooling is not a practical option in this situation anyway... sorry if I wasn't clear at the beginning of the thread....

for 3x3 if the heat is not a big prob go with the LR-1000. a cooltube gets rid of up to 90% of the heat the light produces so it's the best choice if there are heat probs but they usually aren't the best reflectors. i had excellent success with mine though.

i'm not sure how much it costs. a friend of mine has 8 of them for his grow and he loves them. i have heard that from others as well and that's why i suggested it. i haven't used 1 myself and i'm not quite sure where you can order 1 from. maybe someone else can post a link or something.

Were setting up two rooms about 4x6 each area... the bubbler "tables" actually measure 3x2 in each room... if we tie them down a bit should be almost 3x4 sog times 2 with 2 1000hps running staggerd... closed system with split type A/C... CO2 later... Big res & chiller, big pumps, lots of air movment through the rooms... I'm hoping for good things...
Just trying to make the best of existing equipment... cost alot to ship to Asia...more than the cost of the gear....

I mintioned this before, but the hoods I use are 4 FT diameter and that is just the hood it self and not even the coverage area. Vertizontal Parabolic Hood's http://www.gtghydroponics.com/store/0-0-669.htm
