View Full Version : Im going to do it.
Ok, i've been smoking cigs since i was 7 years old, i've been smoking more years than i care to remember. I've been smoking 40 a day for a few years, and today i read something in the paper. I cant remember what though.
But, i've decided im going to quit the cigs. It's a horrible habbit and i wish i'd never started. I dont want to die, let alone die young. Cancer is a scary illness, and i never want to get it.
For those of you who smoke cigs, think about it, think about what you want from life, and think about what'd you'd be able to do without smoking cigs... I spend over £10 a day just on cigs, and i dont want to anymore.
So, as from saturday 9th im going to try the patches. I just hope they work cos i havnt got alot of willpower.
Just thought i'd share... Anyway, if i look on the upside i can get more and more weed every week which ultimately means i can smoke more.
One day i wanna be able to smoke 14g a day without having to worry about money.
Anyway. Yeah. Just thought i'd post this as im bored and really wanna kick the habbit.
I quit cigs cold turkey, no patch, no nothing. I just kept thinking about the fact that the cigs don't do anything for me yet the tobacco companies are getting rich. They purposely lie and say that tobacco isn't addictive while they add chemicals to make it even more so.
If you can get through a week or so without having one and then light up it will taste so raunchy that you will never smoke again. That's how it was with me anyway.
Put all the money you would have spent on cigs in a jar and at the end of the week count it. Now multiply that by a year and that should be incentive enough to quit.
Good Luck.

The best way to quit is to smoke yourself silly the night before and make sure you have no cigarettes left before you goto sleep. When you wake up, be a man and stick to your decision. The physical withdrawals will last you for upto 3 days and then it is all down hill mind games from there.
Just stick to your guns and stay away from people that smoke for a while.

Geezuz man, it is only a figure of speech. Although when I quit and was withdrawing from nicotene, if I had a gun I would have shot people.
So maybe you are right:confused:
Oh well, it is too late now. I must be stoned.:stoned:
How does "just stick to yur decision" sound to you?

I'm proud of you for at least trying to quit. I don't think there will be a point if you continue to smoke tobacco in your joints tho, it will just defeat the purpose completely.

Good luck bro! You're going to need it. ;)
I quit ciggs a few years ago. First, I tried just cutting back on how many smokes I had per day, didn't work. Then I tried a lighter smoke, but that was like inhaling air. It took me a few times to actually quit, but the last time I tried, I gave it up cold turkey. I was tired of spending cash on nothing, other than make me feel like shit and give me headaches, so I just said fuck it. After work one day I tossed a full pack of smokes in the trash, and I haven't smoked since. :)

I smoked almost a pack a day for 2 years and quit cold turkey. I bought a half oz of the best dro I had up to that point, and every time I wanted a cig I'd smoke a bowl instead. That was a good couple of weeks. :D Then when I tried to smoke a cig, it tasted fucking gross, and ever since then I not only don't want cigs, but can't stand them....and to think I used to kinda like how they tasted. I think the worst part about quitting was coughing up all the nasty shit afterwards. I wonder why none of it wants to come out til after you quit?
You'll be happy with your choice, LIP. Pot alone doesn't make it anywhere near as hard to breathe on your lungs as cigs do. I feel a shitload better overall since i quit.
I haven't had a cig in like 2 or so years.

Would you pour nail polish remover (Acetone) over your
cereal in the morning, or brush your teeth with mascara (Stearic Acid) ? Of course not! Would you use shaving cream (ethanol)
in place of whipped cream on a piece of pie? Nope! Yet, when you use tobacco, you are taking these chemicals into your body! There are over 4,000 chemicals in tobacco. 200 of them are
heavy metals like cadimum (which is used to make batteries).
Over 200 of them are carcinogenic (meaning they cause cancer.)
Chemical: Used for:
Acetone nail polish remover
Ammonia
Arsenic Poison
Hexamine Lighter fluid
Cadmium Flash lights
Carbon Monoxide From Cars
DDT Bug Killer
Steric Acid
Formaldehyde
Nicotine
Toluene
Hydrogen Cynaide
There are many, many more chemicals, including Naphtalene (Mothballs), butane (Lighter Fluid), Methane (Sewer Gas), and Methanol (Rocket Fuel).
There I just typed most of this out.
You really should stop smoking as hard as it may seam.
Even harder thing to do was a couple weaks back putting flowers on my grandmas grave for her birthday, The reason she died is from smokeing non filtered pal mals. I mean really give it some thought man. Do you want your .
friendsand family gatherd over your grave thinking of the good times. When youd be there spending thoes times with them. Cancer kills so many people, And what do you get out of it? An empty wallet? Sore throat? Cancer? Crispy lungs? Bad breath? All you may have to show for one day is your health, Keep smoking and pretty soon that will be gone to. Inless your just dieing to get in the grave. F*ck why not take the cancer stick with you to the grave after all they killed you right?
My words of wisdom.

Good luck in trying to quit. I know how hard it is.. I've been begging my mom to stop cause I don't want to lose her young.
I just lost my step-dad on Nov. 17.. he had smoked cigs (since about 9) all his life, and about a year/half ago we found out he had esophagial cancer (which is a uncommon). Mostly had been caused by smoking and maybe some acid reflux.. docs didn't know. He was in remission for a year and a half before he passed last month, the docs at that time were also wondering whether he had lung cancer or not as well because his lungs filled up with fluid.
After all this shit I've been through, I try to urge all my friends and people I meet to stop smoking. I can't convince everyone, but I'll continue to try. They're just not good for you... keep smoking the green herb instead of those chemicals that coporations put together for you. They don't call them cancer sticks for nothing.

Good choice....
My aunt quit by going to a hypnotist lol....she quit for 2 years, but started again and has been puffing ever since.
I know someone who would smoke a bone everytime they needed a butt, and quit that way.
But my mom has been smoking forever, and has tried everything, but can't knock it...
There are some natural supplements like 5-HTP you can get that helps with craving...it also helps with sleep among other things. If I were trying to quit, I'd definitly look into something like that...I actually think there's a system called Smoke Away, which is all natural and helps with craving, but I duno how good it is...so maybe check something like that out.

yeah, all my dads family died at 50 because of lung cancer, whearas the average death age of my mums family, none of whom smoked was 92.
I like the smoking a bowl instead of a cig idea, lol, thats how id try to kick it, and even if you didnt suceed you would still have had a whole lot of fun in the process, lol.
I quit cold turkey three days ago. I smoked about half a pack last night at a party while i was drunk, but besides that im doing good.

radically change your life somehow and it'll be easier, cut out all things that you associate with smoking, if you have a cup of coffee and a cigarette usually then cut it out

I've done it - my advice:
1. You know yourself - be honest, you are only kidding yourself if you cover up etc
2. Don't underestimate how hard it *might* be for you to quit - I tried about 6 times over 18 months ;)
3. Enlist friends and swear them into helping you
4. Avoid situations where you would smoke (the pub) at first
5. Remember that no-one makes you smoke - you have control
6. Don't beat yourself up if you slip - just get back on with it. I really gave myself shit if I got pissed and smoked a fag.
If its a one-off (and not an excuse to blaze a fag) thn let it go and just keep on quittin' :) remember point 1.

Good luck alex mate, ya got a long n tough road ahead. I was on the 21mg patches for a month and then went onto the 15mg for another month. I believe there's a third step but I felt that I'd give it ago without the patches. To be honest I couldn't be bothered to carry on and reckon I can now quit. Be prepared for your arm to ache like a bitch for the first few days, kinda like you've overdone the weights and the shits........nice eh!?
Good luck bro! :greenthumb:

From the "gain an extra inch" in sexuality thread...
Yes sir, I'm very serious. Ask any urologist or cardio-pulmonary doctor for a confirmation of this fact. Smoking affects erectile function in a negative way because it contributes to arterioslcerosis. This unfortunate fact is one of the best ways to persuade men to stop smoking, too, believe it or not. They're more likely to quit to improve the quality of their erections than to benefit their overall health.

same deal with me. i started smoking right after i graduated high school and the second it became a habit i quit in one week cold turkey. honestly once you stop buzzing off of tobacco it serves no purpose and its stupid to continue the habit.
Cheers for the good words guys. It was you buddymyfriend who inspired me to quit. And no, i'll be smoking pure from now on, what i'll do is save more crystalized leaves from my grows and use them instead of tobacco, but there no way i could ever even think of giving up skunk.
Im smoking a pure J now, and the taste is amazing. None of this shitty sandy bud thats supposidly going around. Seriously guys, if you want the best weed out there that isnt contaminated with all sorts find a grower. But dont treat him as a dealer, treat him as the proper mate, and the prices will fall and fall. That's why i can afford to buy a fair amount each week.
Damn, i just looke my my spliff in me ash tray and it's so resinated its look lovely. I fucking love weed, i wish i'd started smoking weed at 7 and not the cigs.
But yeah, after saturday im gunenr do it, no mroe cigs, fuck em. I dont wanna die, im scared shitless of dying and even though i know im going to one day the cigs aint helping, i've seen to many people in my family go through cancer and heart trouble of cigs, i was helping arrange my granddads funeral with my dad the day after my 10th birthday... all cos he smoked.
Im definatly going to quit, no too ways about it, i fucking hate cigs and what they've done to me and others i know, it's over between me and tobacco.

Good on you, Lip! My husband and I had our very first arguement some 39 years ago, when he wanted to use our last few cents on Camel cigarettes, while I wanted to eat that night! I had the money in my purse, so I won, but even so, I compromised. I got a box of Mac & Cheese and a can of tuna. He got an 8 cent bag of Bull Durham- he was NOT happy. When someone will choose a drug over food when hungry, that's addiction! He still smokes. I've been trying to get him to the point where HE wants to quit- my wanting him to quit for the last 40 years is not enough.
