anyone have any suggestions on how to actually get some SLEEP next to a boy who SNORES!!?
i'm talking about the kind of snorer that you can repetitively nudge/kick, but it only shuts them up for approximately 5 seconds or so. :p HELP!
i'm considering the sock in the mouth thing. does that really work? lol
much much much love.

I have noise from neighbors and outside the apartment, so I use earplugs and sound machines.
Rather than a sound machine, you can also get CD's with white noise, rainfall, etc., and play them till you sleep, or put them on "repeat" to run all night.
Another option is to have a spare bed handy for nights that you can't sleep due to noise - but you run the risk of liking it and deciding to go to it regularly, lol.

I really feel for you! Been there, done that (40 years of marriage in spite of his snoring!)Your lover needs a CPAP machine! It blows air into his nose and throat and prevents snoring! Yes, he is going to be resistant, but men who snore- especially with short sudden, breaks in their snoring- often have what is called sleep apnea. It cuts down of the amount of restful sleep a person gets, lowers their blood oxygen level, and greatly increases the chance of a heat attack! Folks with it are more depressed and, in general, have worse health. If he is even a bit overweight, get him on a diet. I've noticed that even just 10 pounds can make a difference in the level of snoring. Have HIM run a search on sleep apnea (be a bit of a bitch about it, you're trying to save his life! ;) ). Now that my hubby has dropped about 40 pounds, his snoring is much softer, and when he does snore- I can sleep through it. (When he does start snoring regularly, I ask him if he's picking up weight. Usually the answer is "yes".) Alcohol increases snoring, I imagine pot smoking might, too. (I've seen studies on alcohol and snoring, but not pot) There were some recent articles on juvenile snoring and this is a fair start on why he should not snore! http://www.sleep-attention.com/prod01.htm My husband no longer uses the CPAP, so pitch it as a temporary fix. Take care of your man, sweetie, heaven knows, they sure don't take care of themselves!- Granny Storm Crow :stoned:

Snoring is awful. My mom carries too much extra weight and has sleep apnea but refuses to use her CPAP machine, and she snores so loudly it's almost impossible to sleep in the same house with her. Says she can't get used to the CPAP. Yet her BP continues to go up and her heart function continues to deteriorate. It's a very frustrating thing to witness. And the rest of us, including my husband, can talk till we're blue in the face. But still she won't do what she needs to do. My mom is one of the chief reasons I'm very attentive to my own health and weight. I never want to end up like her. OK, sorry, that wasn't a tip or suggestion. I just needed to vent.
I have a close friend whose husband snores loudly, and he doesn't have sleep apnea because he's been tested. He just has loose skin in the back of his throat that makes the noise worse. I recently read that there are new fixes for snoring that involve laser surgeries, but I also read a tip in a women's magazine a while back that my friend used on her husband, and it worked well. This tip was for how to prevent husbands/partners from sleeping on their backs, which tends to be where snoring is the worst. You take a tennis ball and put it into a sock of some kind. Then you sew the sock holding the tennis ball onto the center back of your husband/partner's pajama shirt, approximately between the shoulder blades. That makes an uncomfortable bump when he tries to sleep on his back, and he'll roll onto his side or stomach instead, which eases the snoring.
This would be a problem for my husband, who doesn't wear PJs or a t-shirt or anything when he sleeps. But if he ever begins to snore, that won't stop me. I'll just suture the tennis-ball sock to his skin!

a snoring bedpartner sucks, but it is fun to be able to beat up the person sleeping next to you! hehe.

From my observing my hubby, it doesn't seem to make much difference. Of course, we rarely go to bed straight! lol And my observations are just for my hubby- no studies have been done that I know of, anyway. Cannabinoids are useful in sleep modulation according to a study. Apparently CBD promotes alertness, while (as we all know) THC can make you drowsy.
