View Full Version : Should I top my ScrOG?

Hey gang,

I'm an experienced grower in coir and have decided to give the old ScrOG a try as I like the concept and think that the view you get of a whole screen full of BIG BUDS is unbeatable, not to mention the yield increase that everyone go's on about. With my normal grows I usually TOP my plants at the forth internode. Should I continue with that or should I just let them grow as per nature and then begin to ScrOG when it's time?

Thanks in advance,

:( {Stop buying SoapBar, its crap, its only made for UK and we should be demanding better stuff}:(

PS: What the HELL is up with the gear situation in the UK at the moment [re: lack there of]? And who the heck is putting all that SAND in the gear? It's just plain RUDE and if you're the one and you're reading this [unlikely, prob some commercial dude somewhere], STOP IT YOU MORON! Some people eat cannabis as well as smoke it and no one likes a mouthful of grit!

No, scrog is not normally topped. You train the plant so that each square of your screen contains one growing shoot, which will turn into a bud.

I just bent them on my last grow and put a side shoot through each screen hole basically...

This time, I am growing more plants and doing just the top colas... Short veg cycle... More seeds, more plants, more buds...

justaseed easily has the best scrog on here, and he tops each branch before he ties it down if I remember correctly. This is one thing that probably depends a lot on the strain and it's branching ability, and the rest is going to be personal preference.

If you know the strain and you normally top it I say go for it.

Yes, it also depends on the length of time you plan for the grow and some strains are just too stiff to train easily so be aware of that when chosing what to grow. I have one friend who grows SCROG and he uses the chicken wire for tying down the tops but normally doesn't pinch his due to the extra time needed to regrow the tops as it kind of defeats the purpose of doing it or SOG. IOW, maximum yield in shortest time; as he says. Personally I'm in a perpetual garden using soil for the mother plants and buckets for the clones, which I guess could be called a modified SOG as they sit in a tray all snuggled together...LOL

canuck grower what are those things that you have on your second grow that allow you to screw in 2 cfls and how much do they cost?
