Anyone else play guitar?
I keep trying to get into the habit, but everytime i either forget or simply put it off.
This time, I stuck with it for a few hours, and GOD DAMN my fingers hurrttttt.
My nails are longer that my skin, I clipped them, but when I hold a string to a fret I still tear away the skin... hurts like a bitch...
This will go away right?
Any tips for a beginner?
Any guitar stories?
I've heard playing music stoned is incredible, I can't wait to try it?..

I play acoustic guitar for fun, and I use to play the bass daily for a long time.
I picked up my bass again recently and after playing for 30 minutes my fingers started to hurt, peel, etc. Your fingers will get use to it and wont hurt soon enough. Go with the guitar thing, seriously. If you put in the time, you won't regret it when you're stoned playing some random chords, really enjoying it and feeling connected with the sounds.

your fingers will harden up eventually but you have to keep playing everyday always try and focus on things you find difficult so you actually improve instead of playing the same thing over and over otherwise you will get knowhere

You should rub your fingers on sandpaper once a day..
The skin will harden..

Yup, I play guitar and have daily, and quite happily for the last 13 yrs or so. I know when I first started, my fingers would be sore and blistered, but do it everyday, and over time, your fingers will develop hard skin, and playing comes as easy as taking a shit.
Playing guiatr shouldn't be a chore, or something you force yourself to do. For me, it's something I love doing, and I get hyped up when I play.
My advice, if it seems like a chore, guitar isn't for you. Guitar takes patience, and a love and commitment to want to learn it. You're only going to learn if you really want to.
Your fingers will hurt at first, but keep playing on those fingers and they will toughen up. Not overnight, but as weeks and months progress.
Playing guitar is a lot fun while high, but learning while high isn't. :p If you're learning and you sit down to practice, avoid getting stoned for that. When you just want to sit down and rock out, then that's the time to get high. :smokin:

like they all said, evetually ur fingers will callus up and ull be fine :D
ya if its chore for to keep up with id say give it up but, u definitly going to have to practice, sometimes u might get bored, stop what ur doing and take a little break or even change what ur working on...id suggest warm up drills before u practise/play each time, theres all kind of scales and progressions u can play that will build ur fretting skills as well as picking,
when i first started playing i set a routine
10 minutes warm up
5-10 min drills
15 minutes of screwing around, playing w/e i wanted,
then i reviewed a few songs i know
after that i spent how ever long it took to learn a song or even a peice of a song
and then i did another 5-10 min drill session
i probally played for 1-3 hours a day, if u have deditcation ull soon find a hobby ull love and be able to do for a long time. if u start getting bored or w/e just set it down and come back in a bit
