I was looking through my dads shit today and I found this book published in 1969 called "Drugs and You". Here's just some of the propaganda bullshit being spread around back then..
Facts about Marijuana
1. It is all but impossible to smoke marijuana and carry on a normal way of life
2. Marijuana salesman usually "push" other stronger drugs.
3. Most marijuana smokers are "missionaries" and force pot on others.
4. Most students who smoke pot on a regular basis drop out of school.
5. Marijuana smokers have littlr or no control of their emotions and their physical functions.
6. Pot smokers tend to lose control of their better judgement. Nearly all heroin addicts took their first "fix" while under the influence of marijuana.
Why Do People Defend Drug Use?
You may still be wondering why anyone in his right mind, to say nothing of apparently well-educated and talented people, should speak up in favor of drug use. There are a number of reasons for this which you would do well to bear in mind.
-Many of the "intellectuals" who aregue that restriction on the use of narcotics should be dropped are users themselves. They are following the old psychological pattern of serving as "missionaries" to recruit new users, in the hope that this will "spread out" their guilt and make them feel less "marked", less freakish, less rejected by society. (ha! HA!)
Can You Tell When Someone is Under the Influence of Pot?
No one can predict accurately what the effect of pot will be on the individual. Typically, however, a person using marijuana will appear to be heavily intoxicated. He loses most physical coordination. ............ The eyes of the user will be dilated and bloodshot, and the habitual smoker often wears dark glasses because bright lights hurt his eyes. His throat will be dry and parched. He may often have a strong apetite for sweets.
What Does Pot Do to the Mind?
The typical effects on the personality of the regular pot user may be summarized as follows:
-He "drops out". He loses interest in most of the things that would normally be important to people like him. He tries to avoid all activities that would require him to interect with other people. Thus, he does not care about getting good grades in school, excelling in sports, succeeding at a job, or doing anything to win respect and admiration from others. The typical pot user often says that he "just doesn't care anymore" - and he doesn't.
- He thinks about pot all the time. Just about everything else is unimportant to him.
- He tends to put things off. He tries to avoid decisions as long as possible.
- He forms a new set of friends. As the pot smoker develops new habits and ways of thinking, his old friends will probably drift away. Seeking companionship, he will only turn to other pot smokers. In all probability, he has few if any close friends. Thus, his whole social life revolves around the use of the drug. In his eyes, if he were to quit, he would become a lonely “outsider”.
In conclusion, the intelligent responsible person will look at the scientific evidence regarding marijuana and at the actual record of experience. It all adds up to one simple statement:
USERS ARE LOSERS!
