likeeee
maybe 4? it all depends on the size of the plants my friend. if you arent really exceeding like 20" then i'd say you could get maybe 5-6 healthy plants under there.

What kind of 400 watt light? MH & HPS the clfs would be good fill in light.
Sounds good start with the clfs and at the right time add the 400 Peace w.:weedpoke:

4 would do well under a 400w HPS.

I would say 4 medium sized plants are comfortable enough under 400W. You could probably do 10 small ones though.

right now i have 5 under a 400hps, the only problem is they are not all the same height so i have one that is not getting much light from the others shading it.

well im' using a 400W hps and MH
under the MH i can get about 6 plants growing well. Limited by space
under the HPS i havent got to capacity yet so i'd say 5 ish. I'm using 4+ cfl's and plan to grow 8 med. sized plants
cant say how it'll go till they grow

Like mentioned, what are you looking to do? Are you going to veg for a period of time or would you like to flower as soon as possible. Are you going to grow bushy or tall?
IMO the best way to utilize a 400 watt is to grow more small plants and lst (low stress training; tie down) them. You could fit 8 plants into that area if you only vegged them for around 2 weeks from good clones (or 4 weeks from seed). This gives you 50 watts/plant which is sufficient to produce over an ounce each plant. Obviously if you grow only 4, the plants have the potential to get even bigger. However the problem with growing big plants under 400 watts is the penetration factor, where the light is just not intense enough to make it far away from the lamp and through the foliage. Hence why I prefer lots of smaller plants that are tied down. A screen of green would be great.

Well, I'm doing a closet grow (like 4X3width, 7 hight) with Nirvana's Haze, which has mixed pheno's so I'm not very sure about the length of the plants. I'm gonna flower them when sex is indicated, killing the males. I plan on letting them flower for a long time, I want amber trichs. Not really worried about the yeild, as long as it's some killer nugs.
4 cfl's for veg, and I'm thinkin a 400W hps for flowering.
I'll go 12/12 on flower, potting soil in 3 gal buckets so I wont have to transplant, mix the soil with perlite to 4:1 (soil to perlite). I'll use ferts and nutes through out the grow.
So, I'm thinking 4 plants?

ello there m8.. just thought i would add my lil bit.. well i grew 5 plants under my 400hps.. i got bout 8 odd ounces total dried cured.... the plants was from 30inches to 38inches tall .. so my babys were like 2.5-3.5 ft high..
so ye i would say minimum 4 plants would be sweet as a donkey.. but you could fit 5-8 smaller plants with some lst.. i had to lst a few of mine as i only have like 6.5ft height.. pots are like 1ft high then a ft distance from the light.. thats 2 ft gone allready plus my light doesnt go all the way to the top of my room hangs like 1 ft from the celling max so thats 3 ft gone outa my 6n half leaveing me with 3 ft grow space.. so ye if ur like me on height you should deff lst.. coz beleive me they streach.. 1 baby i had was smaller then rest i put in flower at like 7inches of crappy skiney plant.. ended up with 3tf hehe.. n they was indicas too.. anyways i think ive gone on too much.. but hey as bob hoskins said .. its good to talk ;) hapy growing and good luck

how big is your grow space as this will dictate the amount of plants more than the light, you need to the most light in the space you are useing but still be able to control temps and conditions.if i knew the size of your room i might be able to help a bit more.
